I would not go for a kneebar in a street fight but it would work...submissions WILL work in a street fight. How is a guy going to fight if he is unconscious, or his arm is snapped in half, or his knee ligaments are shredded? In a 1v1 fight (no weapons) it will work.
@STARSandBARS1994 the obvious danger of grappling in a street fight are the unknowns of a street fight. it's tough to see a weapon when you are using your head to advance position, the hard asphalt can result in surprise damage, additional assailants attacking from your blind spots, when your head is right at boot level.
that goes without saying but I said 1v1 with no weapons. Usually a street fight is a heat of the moment thing where two guys just start swinging, most likely he doesn't have a weapon. And no art can really defeat multiple people.
@STARSandBARS1994 in those situations grappling is very effective. removing or minimizing a puncher's chance increases the importance of technique. As a wrestler and practitioner of brazilian jiu jitsu, i feel 10x more comfortable on the ground than standing, but i still feel going to ground is risky. as for multiple assailants, running or striking are the best.
@Barrenthevampire with those credentials Im sure you or whoever it is that has them would know there are far more effective low risk high reward techniques in your arsenal to use.
Also everyone talking about marine's like their hand to hand matters. Marines have such minimal and amateur hand to hand training it's a joke. It's very basic. Don't get me wrong, they'll fuck most people up, but that's because most people don't know anything. Our marines have some of the worst hand to hand training in the world relative to other nation's special forces training.
i dare any one of you to go up against a mrine i bet , they could do what ever they wanted to do to you hahah just cause its hard to do in real life doesnt make it imposible you just have to have perfect technique cause you learn sweeps in wrestling and as long as you preform them right in real life you could take anyone out if you have technique and you partner has none you will rape there skulls hahah just saying
@mcgonigle3266 I am not talking about me vs marine. I was thinking more marine vs other trained combatant. Or me vs BJJ guy who thinks he can pull that shit off in the street and get away with it...
This looks like bullshit. I would have kneed that MF in th balls as soon as he turned round to do that. I really don't think the marines are going to be using shit like this in combat...
@DrSpooglemon If someone's skilled enough to go for a rolling kneebar on you in a fight, odds are the transition is going to happen too fast for you to realize what's happening:
@ThePinkMan That is pancrase. They aren't even allowed head shots. I'm talking in a real combat situation, although I think marines might wear a cup to protect the family jewels. I still think it is more for sport than combat...
@DrSpooglemon To be fair, you usuallly won't need to pull off such a technical submission to defeat the average guy you'll run into on the street. If someone was good enough to do this to you, however, you're not going to stop him with a groin hit, even if you realize what he's trying to do. It's too easy to miss and the window of opportunity is to small to hit it. Besides, don't tell me you've never shaken off a hit to crotch before, especially if you were just about to fuck someone up.
@DrSpooglemon No way man, anyway your balls are not vulnerable since you are sitting in his knee. It is a bear hug defense. Someone smart would not use a bear hug in a street fight anyways.
I fucking hate how people think this is gay this is Brazilian Jiujitsu if its so gay then why is it one of the deadliest fighting types known to man? I bet you didnt know that huh..
@OmgItsKenny11 Yeah, i certainly didn't know that seeing as how it's completely false. It's a combat sport, made for sports, with rules and regulations. Doesn't work in real life unless you're fighting someone who is physically incompetent.
Besides the fact that it's not even a FIGHTING art but a sport combat art, it's not even the best combat sport. The entire Gracie family got their asses beat by Kazushi Sakuraba (catch wrestler). Get your facts right before making stupid baseless comments.
@IamVeryFrozen He lost to Ralek by DECISION at 41 years old. All that proves is how terrible Ralek is. Decision? You can't put away a 41 year old man when you're in your prime? Point is, BJJ is not a dangerous combat art, it's a combat SPORT. Not meant for the streets. If you're fighting anyone competent this shit won't work on the street. Because that's what it is, shit. You're ignorant if you think it will. You'd get killed or seriously beaten. This hold is meant for a sport, not real life.
@MEGADakota2 Dude you are a fucking ignorant, who the hell would do a bear hug in a competition? What the hell does this technique have that makes it for the street. No Jiu Jitsu is not a sport. It is practiced by the army in The army combatives, it is used by police officers in weapon retention and law enforcement programs. The shit is that you belive that BJJ is only for the ground. This hold is also present in the karate and other martial arts.
@IamVeryFrozen I never said anything about anyone doing a bear hug...if you're referencing the WAIST LOCK that is being done in the video, a lot of people would do that in a competition. But again, I'm not talking about competition, I'm talking about real life where a knee bar wouldn't work and you'd get beaten in the face.
@MEGADakota2 It is a bear hug defense I learned it in Jiu Jitsu. Nobody would do it in competition unless it was the rear clinch, which is completely different. You do not necessarly need to go to the ground as shown in the video (Rolling Knee bar). You can break the knee standing up, as long as you keep "sitting" on the knee and mantain your balance. Not all real fights are multiple opponent situations, and anyways in that case the best thing you can do is cooperate or escape.
@IamVeryFrozen You don't want to be reaching down / bending over in a real life fight like that. Probably one of the dumbest things to do in real life scenario. I'm not saying it would NEVER work, I'm saying there are better options and it's as ridiculous if not more so as doing a high kick in real life. also a waist lock and a bear hug are the same things. Bear Hug doesn't mean it's being done by an untrained opponent, it's a waist lock.
@MEGADakota2 Bear hugs and clinches(or waist locks), are similar the difference is that a bear hug is done by an untrained opponent with the only purpose to control you and sometimes take you down but is quite rubish. A clinch is a technical hold in martial arts that is used to control opponent in order to strike (muay thai) or to take the opponent down (jiu jitsu). The difference is technique. This knee bar done standing or on the ground can totally incapacitate your opponent fast.
@IamVeryFrozen Exactly...nobody would be in that position in real life. If someone was behind you like that you'd get bashed in the back of the head/neck area, good luck with that.
@MEGADakota2 Dude bear hugs will be done has someone ever hugged you from behind? In a multiple opponent situation someone my hold you with a bear hug in order to hold you will the other guys beat your face. It is very common, by sexual abusers.
@MEGADakota2 Anyways The Gracie fight was a sport event, the street is different. Helio Gracie made Jiu jitsu for the street, the issue is that sport oriented schools make Jiu Jitsu instruction sport oriented which is totally wrong and causes IGNORANTS like you to begin trolling around.
@Zwollem If you stay standing you lose your knee. Once you start feeling the pressure he falls to "aliviate the pressure", what he does not know is that once he falls the marine locks and finishes.

@evoked87 ... why would you want to let yourself get tackled from behind ? .... sounds like you prefer to be humped. ......................... lesson for the day -- the kneebard doesn't hump anything. YOu squeeze your thighs on their lower quads so that you "lock" the knee position in full extension. You then arch with your core and upper body - not "hump" with your hips. There you go- free lesson.
hmm and someone please tell me when youre gonna need any of this brainwashing crap for everyday life? Isn't it sad what we have come to? We all sit around worrying about self defense and being attacked (even though it'll likely never happen to any of us) instead of LIVING our lives lol. So sad. this isnt Ancient Rome
If he has a nuclear warhead and is more than an hour's running distance away, this move won't work. Just saying. Launch button pressing = ultimate martial art.
^ This is my favourite disprover of there being such a thing as "the ultimate martial art".
Some of the murders by the German BND, the ex GESTAPO, known to the public:
Uwe Barschel (politician), Jürgen Möllemann (politician), Heiner Gehring (author), Martina Pflock (political activist), Tron (internet activist), Karl Koch (political/internet activist), Bernd Seiffert (human rights activist), Kirsten Heisig (author/judge), Fritz Bauer (persecutor of the Frankfurt Auschwitz processes), Markus Bott (human rights activist).
Google the names and check out my channel and homepage.
I hate to be "That guy", but how does this apply to combat? You broke his leg. Great. Now what? What if he pulls out a knife and stabs you or pulls out a gun and shoots you? If someone broke my leg, it wouldn't stop me from trying to kill them, it would motivate me.
@LoneWolf1054 If you had a knife or gun, you would've probably used it before being forced into hand-to-hand combat with your opponent. But if you did get your leg broken, that's a severe problem whether you're armed or unarmed. It doesn't matter how motivated you are (You won't be), because you're now just moments away from being killed.
@ThePinkMan The point I am making is that going to the ground with an assailant is a bad idea in a combat situation. If you have ever been to Afghanastan or seen pictures, most troops don't walk around in flexible fight-shorts. Imagine trying to performing this move from your back with a helmet on, full body armour and a 50 lb. ruck sack. Now his friend comes in and starts stabbing you. Do you think you will have time to get up? In the cage it's Mano y Mano, in combat, anything can happen.
@LoneWolf1054 Something would already have to go seriously wrong for a soldier to end up using his hands in the first place. If that happens, there's a good chance the confrontation will end up on the ground. It doesn't matter how much you want to stay on your feet. As you said, anything can happen.
Either way, the purpose of H2H combat training is mostly to bolster a mental edge for soldiers. We can theorize for hours about what techniques are the best, but it doesn't really matter.
People are always trying to debunk the efficacy of these moves. Do they work PERFECTLY in EVERY situatuion? No. But this doesn't mean that the moves can't be used effectively under the right set of circumstances. It's called martial ARTS for a reason, you take what you need to produce an effective fighting stategy against a unique opponent. Much like painting a picture, each fight will be different with different techniques. "If he has an M249 machinegun this move won't work" gimme a break..
@User5973 The only way most of the Jiu Jitsu moves won't work is against someone that trains Jiu Jitsu and is good at the defense to it. Grappling is like chest, you make your move depending on the situation, and not every move will or can work at a certain time.
I've been practicing BJJ for a while now, and I can tell you, while this particular version of the knee bar is not in my game, I could throw this on some "badass" at a bar faster than a rabbit gets fucked, and there aint no stopping me.
@956crazyman19 nope im not a fan .. of any kind of sport ... " maybe tennis .. " , maybe if you try to make everything abit funny, you would see all the sexuality behind those the moves of those two grey men !!
@ThePinkMan nope, Leg locks are very much apart of BJJ, the only lock not aloud on the legs or ankle is a heel hook (when wearing a kimono) but a heel hook is aloud when going no gi. toe holds, knee bar, straight ankle locks are aloud, but you are not aloud to do mata leao with the foot. hope this helped
@B3nBo1194 ..... traditionally, the Gracie style was very weak on leg locks. Until the 90s when sambo stylists began to add to their system. ..... Gracie JJ was based on Maeda's kosen-judo style (not ko ryu jj). Hope this helped.
I doubt whether this is useful in the marine, but one thing is for sure: no one expects a move like this and if u do it well you've snapped his knee in one second, then just stand up and walk away.
Unless you're fighting the dark grey guy offcourse. I've seen him getting beaten up 100 times with the craziest moves from all over the world, but the guy is unstoppable!
This is an absolute ridiculous martial arts move. Do you think I am going to unlock my center of gravity for an idiot to interlock with me to do this move? Two simple moves I learned from a Navy Seal would kill the attacker before he would take me down to even start this move. I can't believe the Marines are taught this crap, plus if you used the Wing Chung punch on the opponent's leg would also be very disabling. His quad is open I like the previous commenter's suggestion of a trench knife.
@f9hunter which hand? His right hand was hidden and levered inside Yoshido's hand to block the ezekiel... and his left hand was clearly on display and resting --- so what was this 3rd hand that you speak of ? Are you talking about the tapping hand on Yoshida's back? lol. You are aware that it was the Ref's hand .... Sorry man. Im not fan of Royce, I'm a big fan of Yoshida (the judo king) but Royce didnt tap or choke. He got screwed. Pretty common when fighting vs Japanese fighter in PrideFC
@f9hunter ---- You just said that he tapped. .... That was the basis of your argument. .... As for the "going limp" ... do you know where that viewpoint came from ? (that is, the later explanation for the stoppage) ----- It came from Yoshida himself. Yoshida, the judo champ told the ref "he's going out" .. and the ref, who couldnt see Royce's face - but saw Royce's rt.hand defending - took Yoshida's word and stopped the fight. If you get gi- choked - you NEVER hop right back up like Royce did
@f9hunter ----- Wallid did choke Royce out. Royce went out cold - no doubt about that. But Yoshida had Royce pinned, you could see Royce eliminate the lever arm - then relax. His left hand doesnt flop, his legs dont go limp and his right elbow is UP, not limp. ... That ref believed Yoshida's word, rather than check to see if Royce could respond. ... I loved Pride, and im a big fan of Yoshida, uchimata King.. but Japanese refs in Pride always screw over foreigners the first chance they get
@KeyboardPacifist i agree to a point that the ref is japan were dodgey however, 80% of people are saying he got choked out, i am not a yoshida fan neither a royce fan. i guess we can agree to just disagree
I'm a yoshida fan. The ave.olympic black belt masted 3 throws and used them in comp. ... Yoshida routinely used 9 throws. His uchimata is a thing a beauty, Seiryoku Zenyo. I dont think he was purposely cheating in that Royce fight. Judo ne-waza is all about power. They never go against soft-stylists like Royce. They would never use Royce's tactics of relaxing back and letting the opponent wear down. Yoshida didnt know any better. I blame the ref. ...But yes, we can agree to disagree
@bogoio Royce Gracie would never tap, :') Matt hughes had him in a straight armbar from side control and royce would not tap even though his arm was on the verge of breaking, never underestimate the power of the brazilians :)
@B3nBo1194 ......... Maybe Royce shouldnt have underestimated the power of corn-husking strong white boys with Miletech catch wrestling. Royce has heart - but power.... ? no.
normally does help that with his left arm he wraps it around the other guys neck or arm so that he is forced to roll, because he will just stand their watching you trying to bring him down.
so what if you use this on a person who streches alot and is very agile

@evoked87 ... why would you want to let yourself get tackled from behind ? .... sounds like you prefer to be humped. ......................... lesson for the day -- the kneebard doesn't hump anything. YOu squeeze your thighs on their lower quads so that you "lock" the knee position in full extension. You then arch with your core and upper body - not "hump" with your hips. There you go- free lesson.

I hate to be "That guy", but how does this apply to combat? You broke his leg. Great. Now what? What if he pulls out a knife and stabs you or pulls out a gun and shoots you? If someone broke my leg, it wouldn't stop me from trying to kill them, it would motivate me.
LoneWolf1054 6 months ago
@LoneWolf1054 If you had a knife or gun, you would've probably used it before being forced into hand-to-hand combat with your opponent. But if you did get your leg broken, that's a severe problem whether you're armed or unarmed. It doesn't matter how motivated you are (You won't be), because you're now just moments away from being killed.
ThePinkMan 6 months ago
@ThePinkMan The point I am making is that going to the ground with an assailant is a bad idea in a combat situation. If you have ever been to Afghanastan or seen pictures, most troops don't walk around in flexible fight-shorts. Imagine trying to performing this move from your back with a helmet on, full body armour and a 50 lb. ruck sack. Now his friend comes in and starts stabbing you. Do you think you will have time to get up? In the cage it's Mano y Mano, in combat, anything can happen.
LoneWolf1054 6 months ago

@dslash If I'm not mistaken, the Gracie's actually disregarded leg locks for years.
ThePinkMan 6 months ago
@ThePinkMan nope, Leg locks are very much apart of BJJ, the only lock not aloud on the legs or ankle is a heel hook (when wearing a kimono) but a heel hook is aloud when going no gi. toe holds, knee bar, straight ankle locks are aloud, but you are not aloud to do mata leao with the foot. hope this helped
B3nBo1194 6 months ago
@B3nBo1194 I didn't say there weren't any leg locks in BJJ, just that the Gracie's initially disregarded them.
ThePinkMan 6 months ago

R1S9S9R1 6 months ago
This is an absolute ridiculous martial arts move. Do you think I am going to unlock my center of gravity for an idiot to interlock with me to do this move? Two simple moves I learned from a Navy Seal would kill the attacker before he would take me down to even start this move. I can't believe the Marines are taught this crap, plus if you used the Wing Chung punch on the opponent's leg would also be very disabling. His quad is open I like the previous commenter's suggestion of a trench knife.

f9hunter 5 months ago
@f9hunter .... not really. But that would have been great. At no point does Royce get choked out by Yoshida.
KeyboardPacifist 5 months ago
@KeyboardPacifist he tapped to Yoshida, not when they stopped the fight but moments before hand
f9hunter 5 months ago
@f9hunter which hand? His right hand was hidden and levered inside Yoshido's hand to block the ezekiel... and his left hand was clearly on display and resting --- so what was this 3rd hand that you speak of ? Are you talking about the tapping hand on Yoshida's back? lol. You are aware that it was the Ref's hand .... Sorry man. Im not fan of Royce, I'm a big fan of Yoshida (the judo king) but Royce didnt tap or choke. He got screwed. Pretty common when fighting vs Japanese fighter in PrideFC
KeyboardPacifist 5 months ago
@KeyboardPacifist im sorry he didnt tap out, he went limp. Either way he choked out. And if not then how about Wallid clock choking him?
f9hunter 5 months ago
@f9hunter ---- You just said that he tapped. .... That was the basis of your argument. .... As for the "going limp" ... do you know where that viewpoint came from ? (that is, the later explanation for the stoppage) ----- It came from Yoshida himself. Yoshida, the judo champ told the ref "he's going out" .. and the ref, who couldnt see Royce's face - but saw Royce's rt.hand defending - took Yoshida's word and stopped the fight. If you get gi- choked - you NEVER hop right back up like Royce did
KeyboardPacifist 5 months ago
@f9hunter ----- Wallid did choke Royce out. Royce went out cold - no doubt about that. But Yoshida had Royce pinned, you could see Royce eliminate the lever arm - then relax. His left hand doesnt flop, his legs dont go limp and his right elbow is UP, not limp. ... That ref believed Yoshida's word, rather than check to see if Royce could respond. ... I loved Pride, and im a big fan of Yoshida, uchimata King.. but Japanese refs in Pride always screw over foreigners the first chance they get
KeyboardPacifist 5 months ago
@KeyboardPacifist i agree to a point that the ref is japan were dodgey however, 80% of people are saying he got choked out, i am not a yoshida fan neither a royce fan. i guess we can agree to just disagree
f9hunter 5 months ago
I'm a yoshida fan. The ave.olympic black belt masted 3 throws and used them in comp. ... Yoshida routinely used 9 throws. His uchimata is a thing a beauty, Seiryoku Zenyo. I dont think he was purposely cheating in that Royce fight. Judo ne-waza is all about power. They never go against soft-stylists like Royce. They would never use Royce's tactics of relaxing back and letting the opponent wear down. Yoshida didnt know any better. I blame the ref. ...But yes, we can agree to disagree
KeyboardPacifist 5 months ago
@bogoio Royce Gracie would never tap, :') Matt hughes had him in a straight armbar from side control and royce would not tap even though his arm was on the verge of breaking, never underestimate the power of the brazilians :)
B3nBo1194 6 months ago
@B3nBo1194 ......... Maybe Royce shouldnt have underestimated the power of corn-husking strong white boys with Miletech catch wrestling. Royce has heart - but power.... ? no.
