Beautiful playing indeed,and a pleasure to hear the colors of the rich,fruity woodwinds.If i have a a slight doubt anywhere,it would be on Gilels' choice of slow main tempo,which he then speeds up,obliging the orchestra to modify..No matter, it's a very lyrical view of the otherworld,already glimpsed,the struggles and pains of this life now dropt away,(on this matter i do not agree with paulprocoplis!),and you quoted well: .."all has been said."

Yes, you are right!

At least partly Gilels wanted to play a bit more 'animato' but here the ponderous orchestra doesn´t answer him, underrehearsed??

Waehrend ich diese Musik, so habe ich Traenen gehoert.　Dieses Spiel ist diese Menge von seiner(Gilels) Guete und Sinn fuer Lyric gewonnen. Sehr schoener Klang! Genau, was er im Herzen hat, spielen. So schoen moechte ich in der Lage, das Werk Mozarts zu spielen.

Beautifully played by all concerned (of course!) but, on a purely personal note, I've always felt it a shame that, for his final essay in the concerto genre, Mozart did not come up with a nobler main theme!

..aber zum leben hin,das sich dem ende zuneigt,werden die menschen oft wieder einfach in dem sinne,dass ein kreis sich zu schließen beginnt,sie werden wieder kindlich wie das hauptthema des letzten satzes,volksliedhaft,schlicht, in der anlage naiv und unschuldig.ein weiteres rätsel mit mozart,dem genie,dem der göttliche funke ganz bewußt dieses thema diktiert hat,als wolle er zeigen:'it´s over,all has been said'

@berlinzerberus Gilels starb zwei Jahre nach dieser Darbietung. Man hört aber nicht nur, wie Du es so schön in Goethedeutsch gesagt hast, das Kindliche, sondern auch den Erwachsenen, der sich auf der Flucht vor der Diktatur in sich zurückgezogen hat. und der im hintersten Winkel seines Fanums eine beispiellose Konzentration aufbringt, das Kindliche, das ihm bewusst ist, derart reflektiert anzubieten, dass es sorglos klingt.

Delightful to feel like part of the audience on this special occasion , where we could still recapture the atmosphere, thanks to the high quality of the video and the superb playing of the Gewandhaus Orchestra .Leipzig and Emil Gilels in perfect harmony. Thank you for this....:)
