What a driver... He certainly deserved a world championship but he wanst lucky enough. One of the all time greats at F1, his driving style is so perfect only a few others like Gilles Villeneuve or Jochen Rindt drove like that. Thanks for uploading.
the entire thing begun with the police trying to stop Dr. Sid Walkins trying to get to Peterson... the delays and who knows what else made an already complicated multiple fracture, become worse... my understanding of the actual cause of death was that his own bine marrow got into his blood stream and killed him. while Vittorio Brambila who had a much worse injury survived the accident.... Ronnie would have been a great F-1 WC
to biondetti - yes, that's exactly what I do recall: I guess that marrows' danger was quite predictable even back then,so I still don't know why things turned bad for Peterson: full mistake, little care, fatality.
I'll take a look on the web:may be the cover up is breaking 30 years later.
Surely driving was so different from today's cars:besides,Peterson's set up was actually very personal. I recall Lauda saying he needed a perfectly balanced car so,he couldn't even have a lap
driving with such a reactive car.
Back to the footage, may be he had cold tires or easily those corrections were pure showing off being the camera car
working. He felt comfortable on dry or wet surface,on the fast lap or in wheel to wheel fight .A brave and skilled top driver:
cold tires possible, but if you ever saw ronnie come through the woodcote corner in silverstone circa early 1970's you would understand such driving was PURE RONNIE. one of the fastest, yet more conservative drivers ever. the best along the likes of giles villenuve, sirling moss, jimmy clark. a world champion who did not win it. a gentleman, who died at the hands of italian bureaucracy & the failure of medical technology, which could have saved him if better standards had been applied.
to biondetti - HI! I recall a serious debate started next to Peterson death here in Italy, being the Niguarda hospital one of the best in Milan as far as pure know how is concerned.Their standards were abs.average back then.
I also recall a kind of a sudden cover up action...and I still can't say if professional lackings by the medical staff were there or if it we can just talk about fatality.
"Calling all Grand Prix F1 buffs"!!!I have the following "genuine" autographs that I may be prepared to part with for the right amount..They include: Ronnie Peterson(2wice)Tom Pryce(2wice)Mark Donahue, Graham Hill, James Hunt, Patrick Depailler, Jody Scheckter, John Watson, Carlos Reutumann, Arturo Merzario, Brett Lunger, Jackie Stewart (2wice) Ken Tyrell, Lord Hesketh, Lela Lombardi (Female F1 star)..Plus many more! Only serious offers please? All autographs in the same book, but can seperate..
unbelievable. dont know how he controlled his car like that very individual way of driving. alonso also had a very individual style and was great to watch before they got rid of michilin tyres
Sweden lost it's fascination with F1 after Peterson died, and it was sealed after fellow Swede Gunnar Nillson (sp?) died of cancer after the 78 season.

This guy was one of my all-time heroes. Like another of my heroes, he died as the result of a crash in a Lotus at Monza. RIP, Ronnie.

Physics redifined by Ronnie Peterson, turn left, steer right! R.I.P Superswede!

How was he able to drive like that? With todays cars they would spin immediately.

The cars were sliding much more back then.

Ronnie was a better driver than the cars he got to drive. The fastest man of his time, who unfortunately never got to be world champion.

really nice!!
amazing car control

Amazing car control. This is what F1 needs now. Big power, low downforce, wide tyres, manual box and plenty of oversteer!
jimsmowing 4 years ago 9
Ronnie Peterson had more natural driving ability than anyone else at the time, perhaps since then as well.

That track was being prepared for its F1 debut the following year. Sadly, it only hosted 6 GPs.
