I was really surprised by this song, hearing it after Hippy's Son. Leaves me wondering what the albumn will sound like...(I like both songs but they've very different sounds to them)
i hate it when bands put out really poppy second albums, but I'm afraid I'm going to love pretty much all of Carl's work no matter what. the same thing happened with babyshambles, they lost the rawness down in albion had in shotters nation
I have to say im really loving this song and i never really liked DPT (always prefered babyshambles.) This song is in tune with the great tradition of British music. There's bits of The Kinks in their, there's bits of barret era floyd, bits of T-rex, bits of The Television Personalities, and bits of the Smiths. Its these bands that are really the greatest British bands, much more so than bands like Oasis, or Artic Monkeys.
Oh... as a fan I must say that I'm becoming slightly worried about "Romance At Short Notice". Neither this song nor "Hippy's Son" really appealed to me. It's getting quite poppy. I really hope the album will still have its Libertines-style punk moments (Which were still there on 'waterloo') otherwise I see them becoming nothing more than your garden variety Indie-band...
i have to say, as a summer single i think tired of england works really well and they did say that it's not really representive of the album, simply because the songs are so very varied. and I think that carl's guitar playing is still so very libertines-style, simply because that's how he sounds. personally, i'm not overly worried. i really think it's gonna be great
Might work as a summer single, yes. I'm not saying it's bad at all but... I don't know. Heard two songs and both have some elements that are really different from what Carl used to do before. I agree on what you said about the guitar though. But still... TWO songs off the new album and neither one of them really does it for me, that- for me- is alarming.
i have to say, personally, i love hippy son. have, ever since they played it that first time in paris. but yeah, i've got a lot of friends who hated the download and are only slowly getting used to it, but said the same thing about being worried bout the album due to not liking hippy son and thinking tired of england is "pop". luckily it's not all THAT much more of a wait.. are you seeing them on tour at all?
No. They seem not to be touring Germany (which is where I'm from). That's a real pitty. But even in 2006 when they released "Waterloo To Anywhere" it was really hard to get a hold of them here... Apart from a small tour with Mando Diao they did.
As for the album: I haven't given up my hopes just yet.I DO believe in Carl and the guys, just hope they don't dissapoint me/us.
By the way: Aren't we just great for discussing that long without insulting each other?Quite unusual for YouTube-users :-)
right. i'm from switzerland so i feel your pain. s'why i'm flyinig to london on wednesday to see them on their uk tour. bit pricey but what can you do?
they are playing a couple of festivals though, aren't they? I know, not the best option to see them but you've got to take what you can get.
hahahah. i was actually just thinking that. we rock ;)
Love this song <3

basically, the industry makes the albums poppy, but the small gigs show the real songs
