Directed energy weapons are long distance concentrated beams of various types.

Its indeed like a microwave oven wich can be pointed into order the make the electrons of a molecule move causing it to increase in heat. In all practicality, yes you could fry someone to death.

Invisible lasers also belong to these directed energy weapons, as they have been in the Star Wars project in Iraq. These are lethal weapons which can slice a person pretty much like a lightsaber.
