But even more to the point here, I think, is acclimation.
Most media sends the message that guns aren't for the common man. I saw a recent movie set in Texas where a cop sees a pistol on the dresser and the owner instantly fishes for the license. There is, of course, no such thing as a license to own a handgun in Texas.
Acclimation to weaponry in non-state hands, even psychic acclimation, is good, I think.
