  • I love how he sings it in his own way, I just love it.

  • that sounded like Jesus himself in my ears..

  • all of you kids keep looking deep into an old gospel song for some real beautiful meaning to it, like angels and god and all that stuff. hell all i know is that its a great song to run to.

  • Did anyone else know that this is a gospel song????

  • @Saunga525 Johnny Cash sang it too.

  • The way I hear this song is deeper than Cash's version in a way. It's a kind of sardonic way of saying that God's gonna cut all of us down, so we might as well sing and be joyous nonetheless. This video adds to the irony, giving the song a hopeful feeling of looking forward to being stricken down because of the peace after death that Moby believes the good will find once dead. It's a double-edged song, as I interpret it.

  • This version and Cash's are totally different, but it's hard not to compare. This one is fun, bouncy, electronic, Cash's is dark, brooding, and raw.

  • will someone please tell me how to play this on piano. I cant find it anywehre on the internet. If you could make a video of it, I would literally suck your dick......or something less sexual

  • if you dont like this song then you dont know shit about electronic music. its ok its just not your thing. but dont post that this song sux because you have no idea what your talking. and to answer your replies in advance, yes i do know that this was previously preformed by elvis and cash, so fuck off.

  • @benloe1 Can you please clarity what you're talking about?

  • Johnny would have loved to sing this song with Moby, because they both got soul. It doesn;t matter how you define soul, they both have it and would see it in eachother.

  • @drunkmonkey93

Thanks, didn't know that. And you are right - Cash's version is better.

  • @HeAtOfMiAmI The cash version is great, but this is great too.

  • @jeanmichelgariepy to each his own i guess, but this version done in this style misses the point of the song

  • @Vaole How so? If you mean that the song should be more ominous, you should take into account that the original vocals were taken from a 1943 gospel recording. In their estimation, God is the good guy, striking down the wicked. They're upbeat because they have nothing to worry about. Johnny Cash and others sang in a tone befitting a sinner for whom a wrathful God is like the boogie man.

  • At 1:00 is that a Commodore 64?

  • Girl at 0:50 has big titties.

  • am i the only one who busts a nut laughing when you see the first scene of the women in the aerobics class. i dunno if its because of the breakdown or the look on their face but i die laughing every time

  • Moby and Cash both have great versions. Depends on your mood. When I'm feeling more meditative and chill (mostly on a warm summer evening), I prefer Moby's version. When I am feeling darker and want something to reflect my mood, there's no match for Cash's version.

  • @slugworth99 both are amazing! it's crazy but i heard both cash and moby's versions before and didn't realize they were the same song! just found out a few days ago, both are great!

  • In the video, how does Moby dies?

  • @kund2005 Lousy job maybe yes?

  • @kund2005 Sooner or later God'll cut you down. That means us :)

  • @kund2005 monotony

  • @kund2005 It looks like he either got hit by a car in the parking lot, or jumped put a window.

The idea that Heaven would be like the real world, only with friendly people that appreciate you, and valuable work, is actually quite appealing. And why don't we make that happen *now*, while we're still alive?

  • Moby è un genio!

  • i like johnny cash's version of the song better

  • This one's WAY better to dance to...

  • Agreed to you, and JoJackHaw.

  • Agreed. There's something awesome in the grim, ominous, stomp/clap beat in the background of Johnny Cash's version.

  • its weird because... the end is sad, but the end is the beginning of the story, and the beginning of the story is happy, so the ending is happy, but its not. Hahahhaa thats confusing

  • sick songgggg ahhhhhh. i totally forgot about this album

  • Anyone else think of Bioshock when they hear this?

  • yes defiantly! Cant wait for no.2

  • you read my mind

  • fuck i accidentally clicked one star :( i meant to press 5

  • SUCH A FUCKING GREAT SONG

  • The story has a good ending. At the end of the story (which is the beginning of the video) Moby helps the girl.

  • AWESOME

  • I always think of this runnin with either a football or rugby, duckin and dodgin

  • You're a douche

  • always loved this song! excellent video!

  • i love love love love this song!!!!

  • God Almighty gonna cut ya down...

  • My Love's Music is so wonderful, sighs...xxoo

  • This may sound weird, but my mom turned me on to Moby's music :P

  • fucking classic Moby piano

  • Bill Landford & The Landfordaires is the group in the sample

  • i don't remeber the name of the singer in the sample used, but it's real old gospel

  • some of his songs are so weird but so addictive)))) this one is an example

  • Both of you are wrong. Its an old folk song covered by both

  • it's not a remake actually moby's came out years before mr. cash's version actually mr cash's version is a remake of his if we want to be chronologically correct .... just thought u would like 2 know :)

  • Close, but no. 'Run on' is just an old folk song that has its roots is southern blues (late 19th early 20th century). Like most early blues songs, its author is unknown, but it is thought to be the work of 2nd generation freed slaves.

  • yes but my response was in respect to her comment i know what u r saying is right trust me but she or he only made the comparison of mr cash and moby

  • Brilliant song. I remember being a fan of Moby when I was young and I bought "Play" and heard this song on it. I've been a fan ever since.

  • run on for a long time run onnnnnn anna chorgchen an chorgchen thats what it sounds like to me, haha lovely song though

  • i think its "run onnnnnnn duckin' and dodgin"

  • It's "Run on, duckin' and dodgin" :)

  • What is he singing ? can´t hear it .

  • turn it up.

  • I'm trying to decide whether or not this song is sad.

  • All the songs on the "Play" album have samples from songs that black slaves sang.

    So you're right

  • I doubt they were slaves since in January 1, 1863, the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Unless they lived in Alabama where slavery was abolished in July 1, 1928.

  • i love this song!

  • reminds me of Jimmy Grimble, class film! And similarly Class tune

  • prefer the original.

    by far

  • what original - Odetta? Cash? Presley? The Blind Boys of Alabama? It's a traditional folk song.

  • Exactly. I think Cash's version might be newer than the Moby version.

  • Cash his version was released in 2006 with his last album, he died in 2003.

  • KILLED IT ELVIS!

  • everything's perfect up there

  • i finally understand this vid... lol i sooo stupid hehe! gr8 song love it.

  • ahh back in the day when MTV actually showed music videos.

  • Doesn't matter who sings it, I love this song.

  • One of my favorite music videos of all time. Great music, fun concept, and awesome visuals.

  • love the piano.. ooh that gives me an idea...

  • the best track on"play"which is probably one of the top 5 albums of the last 10 years.have to be honest though, either side of "play",its a little bit bleak..sorryx

  • johnny cashs version is way better

  • Tip of the hat to Moby for keeping the song current!

    But opinion's are like assholes.

Everybody has one. So here's mine.

    Elvis's version Whips everybody's ass

    Can I get an Amen ! Oh'lawd!

  • OH LAWDY

  • OHHH LAAAWDY!!! ;]

  • this is the best version of this song...

  • Fantastic song.

    Stupid video.

  • wow, awsome video

    tells a story lol

  • esta cancion parece gospel muy buena

  • First song I've heard from Moby!

  • Really? The very 1st one?

Moby didn't even write this song, but it's still a good rendition.

Hope by now you've listened to more Moby songs.

Not only is he a good artist but in my opinion he's a person with a great sense of humor, too.

  • Very interesting how Moby and Johnny Cash interpreted the song. I love them both though.

  • I love this song, Moby is genius!

  • Good weird song, there was another one from Moby that I liked.Odd artist, but good. This song is from 1999,but sounds from something from 1939.

  • MAN GONE, FOR A LONG TIME ! THAT'S ME.

  • i dont understand this video!!!!!!!

  • good it would concern me if any one did.

  • good answer, i tried to follow it but with little sucess :P

  • The video is simple! Starting at the end of the video going forward...it shows where he works which is "Hell" ie everyone is rude to him, stressed with work, very dim scene, can't seem to help anyone etc and then He dies in the parking lot, which makes his work "Heaven" brighter, more welcoming, coffee is amazing, and at the very beginning of the video he is being applauded because he just saved the lady's life. Genius video! :)

  • Great video. Thanks for posting.

  • gooood song !!! have you heard johnny cash's version of it ?? if not listen to it its called Gods Gonna Cut You Down. Goood

  • There's and Elvis version too.

  • yee yee a really old lyrics !! X

  • Yeah I have the original version of these lyrics on record with these vocals on it, it's bloody ancient. It's still good though

  • I have. Actually, I didn't realize that this was the same tune until I spent two hours listening to Moby today.
