There is no way to run outdoors in my particular area. If you run outdoors in my vicinity, you are definitely going to destroy your knee and ankle joints. Way to many terrible roads and sidewalks here, best to run in doors on a treadmill for me personally.
For example, when I want to get shredded I “only” eat 3,300 calories a day. Most people would not be able to do this and get ripped. I burn fat extremely easily, but I just cannot put up muscle easily at all (15 inch arm, lame).
On the contrary, my best friend puts up muscle like a gorilla very fast (18 inch arm, damn), but he finds it hard to lose fat even if he goes down to 2,000 calories a day.
She didn't say that you need carbs for your energy. You just need some kind of energy and our bodies get that from food. Working out on an empty stomach may make you skinny, but it will make you lose muscle mass which is not a good thing.
Bad myth there....you need carbs for energy huh? Bull crap. You go a head and keep eating your grains....good luck with that crap. If the treadmill didn't offer resistance (think of a slippery carpet.) then there would be a weight balance problem since you aren't moving forward.
However, if you push back hard on the treadmill, you shouldn't be able to make it accelerate so this is not the case and those saying that the treadmill and outside dynamics are the same are essentially correct.
However, there are definitely differences in the softness of the ground etc that make running on a treadmill different.
Some of these myths are busted with old thought. You can still do low weight high reps and see an endurance gain, but she is right you wont see the same gain as with H weight L reps.
You wont burn more calories when you have an empty stomach. You burn the same amount regardless. When its time to fuel the workout she is right, if you dont have fat stores or fuel in your stomach, your body will cannibalize the muscle for energy to complete the workout. Eat protein up to 1 hour before working out.
Having a walk is actually not a big problem on an empty stomach because it's easier training than running. Fat consists much energy but it takes longer for your body to burn, so you actually burn more fat on empty stomach while walking than running.
I don't agree with some of the treadmill part. Of course running outdoors is better fitness provided that the ground is right or the shoes are. Hovewer, physics says that running on a treadmill includes the same movements as running on fixed ground...
"when you're running on a treadmill it's the treadmill itself that goes forward, not you"- of course you genious!
Provided that the forces occuring on contact with the ground (treadmill/outdoor) are identical, and after ignoring the psychological influence of the running environment (TV in front of treadmill / pleasant green park), I don't see the difference in movement mechanics and muscle response.
What I mean with that is, you're practically jumping on the treadmill, you're only doing the "running movements". The treadmill helps you to get forward, so there is no actual resistance.
I disagree. Same movements, different relation to the 'background'. The treadmill doesn't help with any resistance. The treadmill actually prevents you from going forward, because if the treadmill stopped, you would run forward...
Difference is: outdoors, you 1. shift center of weight 2. move legs so that you don't slam = you move in space.
On the treadmill the space starts to move first:) Then you shift center of weight and move legs so that you dont fall off.
When you run outdoors, you are the one taht has to go forward. When you run on the treadmill, the treadmill's engine forces you to move your legs. And btw you don't actually shift the center of your weight on a treadmill, because you don't move in relation to the world.
Professional runner here. On a treadmill you are not pushing forward, you're pushing up. you could essentially do the same thing by hopping instead of running.
The only way you'll get even close to the same workout as running outdoors is to increase the incline to greater than 1.5. Personally I put it at or around three to simulate a slight grade. But she is right, it still isn't the same,
I understand that this is your personal impression as a pro runner... I respect that but still, I'd like to hear from a physicist on this subject.
"On a treadmill you are not pushing forward, you're pushing up." - this means that if the treadmill would stop immediately, you would just hop in place and not run forward. I don't see that.
If you would move your center of weight forward when running on a treadmill you would tumble forward. As long as YOUR mass is going forward in relation to the WORLD (NOT the ground) you will have to shift the center of the weight, not on the treadmill because the treadmill's "ground" is going backward in the same speed as you're going forward (in relation to the "ground" of the treadmill), that prevents you from going forward in relation to the world.
Imagine a race track, one meter wide, infinitely long. Add a runner on the track. You don't see any background, no 'world' around it (for arguments sake), just 'space' :>
Now, lets assume the track is fixed (as in running outside) and the runner... runs, with some speed v.
Secondly, lets assume the runner stops and the track itself is pulled back with speed v. The runner has to start running so that he doesn't fall or doesn't get pulled back with the track.

His movements while running in both cases are identical (the start may be a bit different). In both cases the runner is moving in relation to the track.
I get your point, but in this case when you run outside there "is" a world. When you run on the track at speed v, you have to run twice as fast to get forward at speed v (in relation to the world) when the track starts rolling back at speed v. So the issue with a treadmill is that if you run at speed v on a track that rolls back at speed v you won't get anywhere in relation to the world which means you don't have to shift the center of your weight.
Ok I think we're getting closer to a consensus. The thing is, in the outdoor case, the track is a part of the world around.
Relative to the track=relative to the world. This being said, it will be easier to refer to the track only.
In the treadmill case, the track is seperate from everything around (the world doesn't move with the track). Again, let's seperate those things and refer only to the track also in the treadmill case.
We don't need the world anymore;) Any Eureka!'s yet, Hejzwej?:)
On a treadmill you are not pushing forward, you're pushing up. you could essentially do the same thing by hopping instead of running.
The treadmill also forces you to do the running movements. That's what I'm trying to say... and no I don't have any "Eurekas" because it's common sense. The human body isn't designed to be running on a track that helps you to get forward.
Aah hejzwej... You don't understand physics, plus I think you don't jog anyway;)
Running outside is healthier I agree, but running mechanics/movements on a treadmill and a fixed track are the same. This is where we differ for now, in the future maybe someone will explain this better than I could:)
A good quality treadmill will greatly reduce the impact on your joints versus running on concrete or pavement. The treadmill flexes when your weight goes onto it and absorbs a lot of the harshness on joints. Especially noticeble if you have any previous injury to that joint such as knee ACL or ankle. I agree that running on real ground is better fitness.
true, but on a treadmill, you don't actually have to exert the energy to propel yourself forward in space, as the treadmill automatically moves beneath your feet.
A few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand
I think her idea about the reps and weight is debatable, I mean it really depends on what you want to go for. Like endurance + explosiveness or strength...Different people have different needs. IF you want to do martial arts, then you need the first type, if you want to weight lift, you need the second type.

Ah god, I've been fighting against these myths (among many others) for years and years with little success. People tend to believe what they hear first, or what they hear from the most muscular guy, or what they want to believe and the minute I point them to some research data or medical journal or something they just don't give a f
I'm happy that you created this vid, with shiny figures, drawings, so I can just point the ignorant masses here. Thanks. It's especially good, that GE backs it up.
Wow... you've had trouble with that? I thought it was a no brainer lol. The treadmill does the "moving forward work" while running outside you have to do the travelling work. I had a friend once who tried to argue against me in this same issue and I challenged him next time he was on the gym to pick a speed and jog as much as he could, then try to recreate the same speed and see how far he got in open air. The tredmill beat open air by like 30 minutes lol. More work = More fitness.
Nah, not explicitly with the treadmill, but with all this stuff I've had lot of trouble explaining. I wish there were other videos like this explaining other common medical and health myths, like eating raw eggs is good for you (no, it's not), or eating lots of liver (hypervitaminosis A, anyone?), or what doesn't kill you makes you stronger (again, bullshit in most cases) or that UHT or pastorized milk contains preservatives (doesn't), or that solarium is good for you (yea, cancer, aging skin).
Pasteurized milk causes a lot of people to develop milk allergies because of the damage done to the proteins by the heating process, which also destroys the vitamin content. Pasteurized milk also causes osteoporosis. Raw milk is better in this case, especially since nature designed it to be consumed raw.
Most people don't get enough vitamin A, but yeah, don't over eat liver. Only eat the yoke when consuming a raw egg. The egg white deactivates nutrients in the yoke if it's eaten raw.
Nature designed a lot of things - some of the most powerful poisons and some of the most potent remedies, and what's remedy for one system might be poison to another, so it's not really an argument. Raw milk is not good for many reasons, but even if it would be, we just couldn't possibly store it and distribute it effectively, not even for a fraction of the population, so raw milk is evil.
I don't have any knowledge about how pasteurization damages proteins in milk and how it affects the human body and I won't believe you unless you are backed up by credible research and experts, I might look into this in the future, however, at the moment I consider, milk (UHT milk) a beneficial thing (unless, you know, you are allergic to milk, and some fraction of the population is).
Please don't believe what people say. Question those things, look them up, do some little research before accepting something, hell, don't even believe me, look it up for yourself, practice skeptical thinking, because it one day may well save your life or help improve it, or save it from degrading.
science and medicine is morphing, scientific facts are sometimes being questioned by the same people that laid down those facts and get revisioned from time to time (like the effect of egg consumption on the human body cholesterol, for example), but get your facts right, especially when you open your mouth and try to "educate" someone. It's a noble thought, but please do it right, because if you don't you will possibly just do more harm.
1. It might be contaminated with salmonella, and salmonella is bad, but cooking the egg neutralizes the harmful agents.
2. Heavy raw egg consumption causes biotin deficiency which is also a very serious condition.
I know it's all manly and whatnot that you can gulp down raw egg, despite it tasting like crap and your bud at the gym says he is all buff because of it, but don't accept advices from big people, good ones come from smart people.
Some people have Vitamin A Deficiency, yes, true, but if you look into the topic just a little you will realize that Vitamin A comes from two sources; animals (Retinol) and plants (Beta-Carotene) and there is also a thing called Hypervitaminosis A, which means the overconsumption of Vit. A (in the form of Retinol), which is a very damaging and deadly condition, but easily avoidable.
Liver is a very rich source of Retinol. 100g pork liver has more than 700% (!) of the optimal daily intake for an adult human and you won't really make a fine dish out of a safe 10g dose of liver, so you might drop it from your diet altogether.
Beta-Carotene on the other hand is quite harmless. Spinach, carrots, pumpkins, they are full with it and they won't cause you harm, so if you need Vit. A, then insert these plants into your diet.
Yes if you starve your body will first start to eat your muscles, but only the ones you aren't using.
Your body is shooting for maximum survival after all, if your life depends on running the first affected will be your upper body, because less muscle will require less food, while still enabling you to survive/work in your environment.
In the same way your muscle will build up depending on your workout, heavy weights for bulk, and light persistent workout for a slim look.
you peeps are dum i hella eat like loads of sugar and other carbs and my triglycerides are a healthy high of 490 and i have a great BMI of 45. biggur is more beautifol
its been scientifically proven that you are wrong actually. when you stress your body out on an empty stomach it forces your body to take sugar and store fat which is the opposite of what you want to do. Having something in your body before working out is always better than nothing.
if you dont have enough sugar you will not burn enought fats cause we need sugar to burn fat so to sum it up anyone who does run on empty stomach is being silly
Wow! Running outdoors is better than a tredmill - that one blew me out of the water. I reckon if you asked randomers on the street they'd pretty much all say tredmill. Just shows what we assume we know, we might actually not.............I wonder what else i'm getting wrong in life. Great vid! Got across the points but was entertaining to watch too.
Oh I think I woman firefighter keeps herself strong enough to carry such men out. They could have serious problems pulling an average american out though...
Yes short intense workouts have better results, but not cardiovascular, if u wane help ur heart a few long exersizes is needed if u wane tone and build then short is just as good
Running on a treadmill is obviously smoother, but my guess is road running is going to strengthen ur joints more, and is more natural. also @VariedInterest, ur statement of the heavy weight bieng false, is false itsself, do some research and u will find that heavy weight lifting with less reps builds muscle, doing light weights and doing more reps builds endurance, not muscle
The lack of carbohydrates during a workout is the only fully accurate statement here. The idea of using heavy weight is flatly false, and running on a treadmill is the same as running on the road as far as basic strain. You may find that running on the road is actually a lot more strain due to inconsistent terrain, but assuming it's flat surface, the motion and body stress with road or tread running is physically identical. There were no myths to begin with, but you proposed some of your own.
In order not to draw backwards on a treadmill, and again let me reiterate that you are a moron, you need to launch yourself in the same forward motion with the planted leg as you would on a road to create forward motion. The treadmill does none of the "work", that goes against the laws of physics, you absolute tit. Read a book and spend less time watching unqualified LA gym bimbos on youtube to get your knowledge of human physiology.
To id0stuff: Actually you're right. On a treadmill you sort of just jumping, since there's really almost no pulling. Most of the work is done by frontal leg muscles. While talking about heavier weights and less reps, she's also right (if you want to gain mass and strength). Of course if one wants to loose weight, one does the opposite. Tried that myself, my friends did, and it is really like that.
This video is not good. It discourage people to exercise. To much emphasis is given to the "better" things, and not enough to the good things. Maybe exercising during all the week is 5x better then only during the weekend, but exercising during weekend is 100000x better then doing nothing. People who cant do the "best" things won't do anything at all because of those kind of video.
Just do anything that you consider exercise, at any rate, any time you can and you will get better! S I M P L E
As far as the cardio on an empty stomach myth, I would agree with her point if intensity was discussed. Morning cardio performed at a low-moderate pace with HR around 130-140 BPM for 30-45 is optimal for fat lose without sacrificing muscle.
@happyhealthy100 the exact opposite is true. your body is always trying to adapt and like this video stated, when you are not giving your body the energy that it needs, it will adapt to that and your body will tap into your muscles for energy and will very slowly cause a loss of muscle mass which is bad because the more muscle mass your body has, the faster your metabolism will be (but your body may not react as accurately if you have serious hormonal imbalances).
We've been exercising in a fasted state for 2.5 million years without any of these so called "side effects", living as hunter-gatherers.
As long as sufficient energy is present after physical work (eating after exercise) any side effects related with stress hormones and catabolism are compensated by an even bigger trigger of anabolism.
haha, how do you know our hunter gatherer ancestors didnt react like this?
and, disregarding the need of prehistoric evidence, the way we live, eat and distribute our excercise (or how we percieve different states of mind or emotions) is very different to how it was done in the past, or even in the present between contrasting societies; you're making a very simplistic comparison.
I know they didn't react like this because neither do we; what she explained was the effects of extended fasting when catabolic hormones are high (cortisol, cytokines, glucagon, adrenalin) causing this edgy, stressed-out behaviour.
As soon as you supply your body with sufficient energy homeostasis is achieved and this "situation" won't trigger in the first place.
I don't see how the first one could have any truth to it. Where exactly is it doing some of the work for you? By moving in the opposite direction you are trying t run?
@rocksexgod When you run outside, you run forward relative to the ground ergo the ground moves backwards relative to you. This means that the ground helps you push off. There's no difference.
Yeah the woman in the video made a fool of herself attempting to propose this idea, she just has a basic ignorance of physics (she is a gym rat after all, not the most literate bunch). In fact, it wasn't a myth to begin with, but she ironically created one of her own, because the uneven terrain of outdoor running does cause more stress than the smooth flat treadmill running motion.
I prefer to run outside because I like to get out in the open space, that's the major psychological benefit of it. Obviously it's the same basic motion, as you have to move forward to compensate for the treadmill drawing you back, and if you only lifted upward, a very unnatural range of motion, you would immediately fly off the back of it. On the road you can step on uneven cracks or rocks, which is hazardous. If you time your outdoor distance you can work out speed as well as a treadmill, also.

Hejzwej 1 year ago
Ok I think we're getting closer to a consensus. The thing is, in the outdoor case, the track is a part of the world around.
Relative to the track=relative to the world. This being said, it will be easier to refer to the track only.
In the treadmill case, the track is seperate from everything around (the world doesn't move with the track). Again, let's seperate those things and refer only to the track also in the treadmill case.
We don't need the world anymore;) Any Eureka!'s yet, Hejzwej?:)
chujciwdupedwarazy 1 year ago
halcyonyear wrote:
On a treadmill you are not pushing forward, you're pushing up. you could essentially do the same thing by hopping instead of running.
The treadmill also forces you to do the running movements. That's what I'm trying to say... and no I don't have any "Eurekas" because it's common sense. The human body isn't designed to be running on a track that helps you to get forward.
Hejzwej 1 year ago
You could try it yourself...
Whether you do the same workout on a treadmill or outside, you still won't see the same results. Running outside "is" healthier.
Hejzwej 1 year ago
Aah hejzwej... You don't understand physics, plus I think you don't jog anyway;)
Running outside is healthier I agree, but running mechanics/movements on a treadmill and a fixed track are the same. This is where we differ for now, in the future maybe someone will explain this better than I could:)
chujciwdupedwarazy 1 year ago
A good quality treadmill will greatly reduce the impact on your joints versus running on concrete or pavement. The treadmill flexes when your weight goes onto it and absorbs a lot of the harshness on joints. Especially noticeble if you have any previous injury to that joint such as knee ACL or ankle. I agree that running on real ground is better fitness.
steveseeger 1 year ago
true, but on a treadmill, you don't actually have to exert the energy to propel yourself forward in space, as the treadmill automatically moves beneath your feet.

Soo i think its more of a preference.

d3st88 1 year ago 2
Wow... you've had trouble with that? I thought it was a no brainer lol. The treadmill does the "moving forward work" while running outside you have to do the travelling work. I had a friend once who tried to argue against me in this same issue and I challenged him next time he was on the gym to pick a speed and jog as much as he could, then try to recreate the same speed and see how far he got in open air. The tredmill beat open air by like 30 minutes lol. More work = More fitness.
roblanco 1 year ago
Nah, not explicitly with the treadmill, but with all this stuff I've had lot of trouble explaining. I wish there were other videos like this explaining other common medical and health myths, like eating raw eggs is good for you (no, it's not), or eating lots of liver (hypervitaminosis A, anyone?), or what doesn't kill you makes you stronger (again, bullshit in most cases) or that UHT or pastorized milk contains preservatives (doesn't), or that solarium is good for you (yea, cancer, aging skin).
d3st88 1 year ago
Pasteurized milk causes a lot of people to develop milk allergies because of the damage done to the proteins by the heating process, which also destroys the vitamin content. Pasteurized milk also causes osteoporosis. Raw milk is better in this case, especially since nature designed it to be consumed raw.
Most people don't get enough vitamin A, but yeah, don't over eat liver. Only eat the yoke when consuming a raw egg. The egg white deactivates nutrients in the yoke if it's eaten raw.
VideoTestBeta 1 year ago
@VideoTestBeta
- especially since nature designed it to be consumed raw
That sentense strips you of ALL credability.
cr9527 1 year ago
Nature designed a lot of things - some of the most powerful poisons and some of the most potent remedies, and what's remedy for one system might be poison to another, so it's not really an argument. Raw milk is not good for many reasons, but even if it would be, we just couldn't possibly store it and distribute it effectively, not even for a fraction of the population, so raw milk is evil.
d3st88 1 year ago
I don't have any knowledge about how pasteurization damages proteins in milk and how it affects the human body and I won't believe you unless you are backed up by credible research and experts, I might look into this in the future, however, at the moment I consider, milk (UHT milk) a beneficial thing (unless, you know, you are allergic to milk, and some fraction of the population is).
d3st88 1 year ago
Please don't believe what people say. Question those things, look them up, do some little research before accepting something, hell, don't even believe me, look it up for yourself, practice skeptical thinking, because it one day may well save your life or help improve it, or save it from degrading.
@VideoTestBeta
I'm glad that you (think) you care about health, but please be more precise.
I admit, I'm not an expert, I have no qualifications, educations whatsoever and on top of that
d3st88 1 year ago 2
science and medicine is morphing, scientific facts are sometimes being questioned by the same people that laid down those facts and get revisioned from time to time (like the effect of egg consumption on the human body cholesterol, for example), but get your facts right, especially when you open your mouth and try to "educate" someone. It's a noble thought, but please do it right, because if you don't you will possibly just do more harm.
d3st88 1 year ago 2
Raw egg is evil too:
1. It might be contaminated with salmonella, and salmonella is bad, but cooking the egg neutralizes the harmful agents.
2. Heavy raw egg consumption causes biotin deficiency which is also a very serious condition.
I know it's all manly and whatnot that you can gulp down raw egg, despite it tasting like crap and your bud at the gym says he is all buff because of it, but don't accept advices from big people, good ones come from smart people.
d3st88 1 year ago 13
Some people have Vitamin A Deficiency, yes, true, but if you look into the topic just a little you will realize that Vitamin A comes from two sources; animals (Retinol) and plants (Beta-Carotene) and there is also a thing called Hypervitaminosis A, which means the overconsumption of Vit. A (in the form of Retinol), which is a very damaging and deadly condition, but easily avoidable.
d3st88 1 year ago

ActiveStorage 1 year ago
The lack of carbohydrates during a workout is the only fully accurate statement here. The idea of using heavy weight is flatly false, and running on a treadmill is the same as running on the road as far as basic strain. You may find that running on the road is actually a lot more strain due to inconsistent terrain, but assuming it's flat surface, the motion and body stress with road or tread running is physically identical. There were no myths to begin with, but you proposed some of your own.
VariedInterest 1 year ago
when you run on a treadmill you are not pulling back of the planted leg to drive the body forward and into the next stride, so how are they the same?

Moron, your bus is leaving!
VariedInterest 1 year ago
I see you have to resort to name calling when trying to explain something, how sad.
Tell you what, I'll keep running on both and see the difference and you read your fancy books.
Cheers mate
id0stuff 1 year ago
To id0stuff: Actually you're right. On a treadmill you sort of just jumping, since there's really almost no pulling. Most of the work is done by frontal leg muscles. While talking about heavier weights and less reps, she's also right (if you want to gain mass and strength). Of course if one wants to loose weight, one does the opposite. Tried that myself, my friends did, and it is really like that.
SpectralGuy 1 year ago
This video is not good. It discourage people to exercise. To much emphasis is given to the "better" things, and not enough to the good things. Maybe exercising during all the week is 5x better then only during the weekend, but exercising during weekend is 100000x better then doing nothing. People who cant do the "best" things won't do anything at all because of those kind of video.
Just do anything that you consider exercise, at any rate, any time you can and you will get better! S I M P L E

As far as the cardio on an empty stomach myth, I would agree with her point if intensity was discussed. Morning cardio performed at a low-moderate pace with HR around 130-140 BPM for 30-45 is optimal for fat lose without sacrificing muscle.

myth: More rep with lighter weight is the way to go.
actually if want to understand this myth you must learn this. There are mainly 2 type of muscle.
type 1 Red muscle 2 White muscle
Heavy weight train Red muscle (slow twitch)
Low weight with more reps train white muscle (Fast twitch, punch, kicking etc.)
for a martial artist they would prefer to train white muscle (low weight with more reps)

I read that exercising before breakfast can actually boost the metabolism. That would be different than exercising instead of breakfast.
happyhealthy100 1 year ago
@happyhealthy100 the exact opposite is true. your body is always trying to adapt and like this video stated, when you are not giving your body the energy that it needs, it will adapt to that and your body will tap into your muscles for energy and will very slowly cause a loss of muscle mass which is bad because the more muscle mass your body has, the faster your metabolism will be (but your body may not react as accurately if you have serious hormonal imbalances).
ZKilla56 1 year ago
We've been exercising in a fasted state for 2.5 million years without any of these so called "side effects", living as hunter-gatherers.
As long as sufficient energy is present after physical work (eating after exercise) any side effects related with stress hormones and catabolism are compensated by an even bigger trigger of anabolism.
Honken 1 year ago
haha, how do you know our hunter gatherer ancestors didnt react like this?
and, disregarding the need of prehistoric evidence, the way we live, eat and distribute our excercise (or how we percieve different states of mind or emotions) is very different to how it was done in the past, or even in the present between contrasting societies; you're making a very simplistic comparison.
Iker888 1 year ago
I know they didn't react like this because neither do we; what she explained was the effects of extended fasting when catabolic hormones are high (cortisol, cytokines, glucagon, adrenalin) causing this edgy, stressed-out behaviour.
As soon as you supply your body with sufficient energy homeostasis is achieved and this "situation" won't trigger in the first place.

because your trying to push yourself forward, and it is helping your leg be pulled back, so you have less of a push force on your grounded leg.
rocksexgod 1 year ago
@rocksexgod When you run outside, you run forward relative to the ground ergo the ground moves backwards relative to you. This means that the ground helps you push off. There's no difference.
didles123 1 year ago
Yeah the woman in the video made a fool of herself attempting to propose this idea, she just has a basic ignorance of physics (she is a gym rat after all, not the most literate bunch). In fact, it wasn't a myth to begin with, but she ironically created one of her own, because the uneven terrain of outdoor running does cause more stress than the smooth flat treadmill running motion.
VariedInterest 1 year ago
@VariedInterest Yes, but pavement is a pretty smooth, flat surface where I live.
didles123 1 year ago 2
I prefer to run outside because I like to get out in the open space, that's the major psychological benefit of it. Obviously it's the same basic motion, as you have to move forward to compensate for the treadmill drawing you back, and if you only lifted upward, a very unnatural range of motion, you would immediately fly off the back of it. On the road you can step on uneven cracks or rocks, which is hazardous. If you time your outdoor distance you can work out speed as well as a treadmill, also.
VariedInterest 1 year ago
strengthens ankles?
Besides, when people run outside- the ground tends to be fairly leveled. It actually always is so I dont have a clue where you came up with that.
