  • it may be slower but in actuality it has a very small HDD thats why its not that fast and it has a small amount of RAM too so, you would have to customise this to even have it be aything decent im afraid and you also have to get a usb dvd/cd drive and install windows xp as lunux isnt too great

  • This video should be called "how to slow down your EeePC" LOL

  • Translate please from german to english, if you want to understand:

Wieso ist der Bildschrim von XP so klein, obwohl der Monitor größer ist?

  • is there a place where i can get a good eeepc with windows and office on it im crap at computing and i need a budget laptop/web-book

  • DID YOU FIND A way yet its been 5 months now lol because i need help

  • You can better buy a better camera then a laptop dude.....

  • nod32 ? maaaan

  • what is it with people talking about a laptop that costs in the thousands and weigh 10 or more pounds? This Eee PC is about having something super portable and can boot up in seconds. If your gonna talk about a computer that costs thousands, why not go with a HP HDX with a 20 inch monitor on a notebook. You could fit 6 Eee PC 900's on the lid. AND PEOPLE, PLEASE LEARN HOW TO SPELL! Firefox underlines your misspelled words in red. Your supposed to right click and fix it. Learn how to spell people

  • Lol!

Not everyone uses firefox you know?

And the new firefox (3) that i am using doesnt have that feature at the moment, so why dont you just shutup complaining And learn your grammar. You have missed out capital letters and full stops. So, why dont you just shut up?

  • Any ideas? If anyone has a positive, helpful suggestion I would greatly appreciate it. A 10 inch screen is cool because things are really easy to see and read. Plus more fits. And the 40GB SSD is a huge plus. But then you have a bigger netbook thats not as easy to carry around as say the 901. Originally I was gonna go with the 8.9inch 8GB and run things off a big SDHC card, but now idk. there are positive and negatives about owning the 1000 over the 900 or 901. I want your positive opinion

  • Eee PC 8BG, 900, 901, or 1000? Any ideas? I am thinking the 8.19 because its not as small as the 7inch, but the 10 inch is soo much bigger than the 8.9. And the whole idea of these netbooks is because they are tiny. I almost think that you could put the 7 inch in a pocket, if you wear baggy pants. And the idea of a netbook you can take virtually anywhere is awesome and I think the 1000 is crossing the line. But the bigger keyboard and hard drive, plus built in bluetooth and battery are important

  • Yeah i have a problem, i have an eeepc, and recently upgraded to windows Xp. It could connect to the internet on the default OS, but not XP. I think i need a driver. Help please

  • i can give you a link for eee drivers for xp,and i will give you a link,sending message...off

  • enjoy your complete lack of portability, waste of money on shiny LCDs and colour panels, short battery life and quadruple-figure price tag, retail snob.

  • The whole point of this machine is clearly lost on you.

  • You moron, this point of this is that it has solid state flash memory for XP, it has a very quick boot up time and it so small it can fit in my girlfriends handbag. You can't compare an Alienware to this because there is no point in doing so.

So go an spend 12 times amount on Alienware, then spend even more money on a big bag to carry it around, then think... whats the point?

  • no they're attracted to people with too much spare money enjoy your wallet empty?

  • hey i was wondering if you can download games onto the eee pc when it is running on windows e.g a game lke maple story..or a rogram like msn.?

  • LINUX IS NOT FOR HIPPIES! I AM ROOT!

  • And I am TOOR! Linux's true best friend but I am secret because I am often used as a default passwoooooooord!

  • Good you can do this. Linux is for hippies..

  • Linux _was_ for hippies...

  • do u need an exterenal disk drive to install windows on the eee

  • i really like this pc

  • can you run adobe photshop and adobe after effects on it

  • i really hope so. i want to buy this and i want to know if it can run adobe photoshop cs2

  • it is only 900mhz

  • nice!

    i dont like linux =-(!!!!

  • And I don't like windows, cuz it sux. :)

  • I meant 390€

  • It sucks that they made it so expensive.

It was announced for 150€, now 299 and the new version will be 3900€..way too much

  • These 7" versions will probably drop in price when the 8.9" versions come out in Jul-Aug. To keep it cheaper on purchase..why pay extra for windows...if you have an existing install disc, just use that in an external CD or USB/SD..many options out there...

  • They are coming out with windows preloaded. I called the geek squad at Best Buy and they wanted 189 to install windows xp on one.

  • WHAT!! dood u can install windows yourself.. its really not hard..

  • 300€ in europe

  • The 4G black can be bought for $350 on newegg. Throw in a copy of windows, 2GB DDR2 667 SODIMM, 8GB SDHC, and you're good to go.

  • where to bought this eee pc?

  • they ship with xandros.

  • lolz...thats what those fkn annoying tabs are! No wonder peeps have put ubuntu on them

  • not that bad... it's a great alternative to windows for people who can't use anything but a simple point and click UI

  • You can turn on advanced mode without tabs..

  • can you run adobe photshop and adobe after effects on it ?

  • i'm skeptical about that though

  • ok mopalit ko ugma

  • Sorry..I looked at it better..I havent noticed that that there is a frame on the screen with speakers :P

  • No. Actually it's very new. As you can see, it is very small (7 inches, 0.92kg) and very cheap. Don't just freaking post comments when you have no idea what you're talking about. BTW, eeepc(dot)asus(dot)com

  • ok..you answered the first part of my question..its a new laptop. But why the hell isnt the windows UI shown in fullscreen? If it is like that by default then its no good for me :)

  • Sorry..I looked at it better..I havent noticed that that there is a frame on the screen with speakers :P

  • wOW what a noob! LOL doesnt know tech. Loser.

  • 1 question ... i watched one review & they said that preinstalled Linux takes quite a lot of disk space (2'6 GB; quite a lot if you're using 4 GB eeepc)

I'd just like to know how did you go with XP? Did you formated the disk with Linux & installed it (probably not enough disk-space) or you have it on USB-key, SD-cark, USB-disk, ... ???

    tnx

  • dude the Eee has linux preloaded when you get it you get a usb CD drive but in the windows install cd and reboot

    its that easy

  • yea, i know all about it.

never mind, i just messed up something ... forgot, that you only need 1'5 GB disk space for Win XP - so now with this in mind, i know that there are no problems having Microsoft on it =)

anyways, i'll probably wait 'till April when new, 8,9" screen (unfortunately screen resolution will stay the same) models with Intel's Merom (Core 2 Duo) processors are out. I just hope that the price won't go 2 high =)

  • dud the asus eee 1001 is comming out sooner it has a 10in. screen and better res.

  • where did you get yours?

  • Once upon a time, there was a Wii and now there is an Eee.

  • The Xandros Linux OS that it installs with is excellent, not sure why anyone would want to downgrade it to XP.

  • what kind of ddrram does it have?

is there only one slot for memory?

    ??

  • Has anyone tried running Windows 98SE on one of these things? The EEE has excellent specs for a 98 machine, and it could be used for running DOS games and the like. If drivers were available then it wouldn't be much of a problem. 98SE and drivers for something like this would be a nightmare without everything ready to be installed on a disk or usb stick. Still interesting though, definitely considering purchasing one soon.

  • 98 is to old... 2000 pro sp4 would be more appropriate.

  • that's actually a good idea.

personally I wouldn't put windows on there at all. Waste. Especially WinXP.

  • It runs great...one-handed opening looks tricky though. Nice vid

  • I really want to like this PC. But the black boarder on the tiny 7" LCD screams "toy." All that extra space wasted. My Dream Eee would be 1Gig of internal RAM, better battery life, bigger screen, eSATA port, USB 2.0, wireless N, for $300. But I know...I' dreaming. Still I hope it sells great so it will prompt other manufactures to get into the game.

  • That's pretty much what I was thinking at first, although- I can understand why it's made that way. The additional space could probably have been devoted to more screen space, but I think they are really going after durability here. That seems to be one of their bragging points on the asus website. This thing has got to be tough; no hard drive, nothing but memory, and it HAS usb 2.0 - meaning you could easily rig an external drive.

  • All that extra space wasted is where the stereo speakers are... but apparently you prefer 1-2 inches bigger screen over stereo speakers...............

  • the sound is poor anyways why not get rid of the speakers or position them somewhere else for a bigger screen

  • yep, they're working on a new eee pc - don't really know what they'll do with the speakers (could move them down), but they'll for sure have 10" screen - can't wait!! (7" is really a bit too small)

  • do you have to upgrade the ram to 1G to run XP so it can run smoother?

  • So the xp asus is out already?

  • XP runs like a dog on the EEE PC. THe Xandros that ships with the device is customised for the exact hardware inside the case so will run faster and more efficiently on the EEE PC hardware.

Yes XP DOES run on the laptop but the Xandros kicks its ass.

  • what does "run like a dog" mean? is that good? :))

  • The full saying is "runs like a dog with no legs"

No its not good but it can be installed.

    Peace

  • for a non tech person the default UI is great, is just as easy as using a smart phone UI.

but if you are experienced you may want to install probably kde desktop over xandros or ubuntu on it. :)

  • how did you install winxp without an optical drive

  • USB Optical, the eee pc is designed to boot from USB devices.

  • oh nice

  • oh, so i plug in an external drive?

  • you can buy asus eee pc with windows preinstalled

  • Does all the hardware work in XP? I'm curious about the Wifi/Webcam/USB in particular.

If I bought it, there's no doubt I'd switch out the OS on there. Even if it was for Ubuntu or another linux flavor. Being trapped in the UI is not for me.

  • There is support for xp (drivers) on the ASUS website.

  • Are you running Xp SP2 ? Hod much space does it take on the hard drive ?

  • how many GB the windows xp+office installation took from hard drive ?

  • one minute to turn on windows

  • maybe linux is better choice than windows ^^

    no, m$, no cry :D

  • very nice
