Dam he killed that on some higher level shit. Had this album as a kid and haven't heard it since I lost that tape. Always went back to listen to other songs when listening to him and forgot about this banger. This was definately his best track as well as one of the most advanced songs of that time.
@zepper21 the roots of rap come from Africa but rap as we know it began in night clubs where dj's would rap over records while they were playing. So the first rap songs were poplar musical versions of well known songs. for example, rapper's delight was actually the music from a song called "Good Times". This was not an uncommon practice. This simply was part of rap evolution.
No susanfit's right... it's KC and the Sunshine Band's cover of George McCrae's version. McCrae's version doesn't have the same crisp bass line that KC's has.
And where do you hear " I ain't goin, I'm gone"? it's "I'm NOT goin, I'm gone"!
kerwintommywooten 5 days ago
You've got the wrong lyrics up all over the place, FYI. "Alright, hit it"? it's "Set the world on fire, I did it"!

@susanfit47 This is a sample of George McCrae's " I Get Lifted". I thought so too until someone schooled me.

oh yeah. what an eye opener it was to learn that all those incredible grooves from my rap idols where bitten from 70s funk legends..

This song actually describes many rappers and others in showbiz -
Caught in a rut, chasin' butt
Trying to get a dollar, or a nut...
