AT&T's word, like their network, can't be trusted. They try to justify their bad behavior in throttling & breaching "Unlimited" data phone contracts by making up their own definitions (just like politicians & small children).
i live in Ringgold Louisiana with no towers what so ever i bought a Nokia E71 Straight Talk 45 unlimited plan a month because i wanted the best phone that they had not thinking it was a 3g phone but with a couple hot spots in my house so just one ? if i bought this MicroCell i would have to get a landline internet
@eclipse96ful Did you try the microcell tower for your Nokia E71 on Straight Talk? I have the same phone and service and I'm thinking about trying the microcell tower but I don't know if it will really work.
@6goat9 IF you buy unlimited microcell minutes, then when you're connected to the m-cell, it will not count against your monthly minutes. If you do not have the unlimited m-cell minutes, then when you are connected to the m-cell it will just use your normal minutes like if you were connected to a normal cell tower.
Is this not something like a cheap marketing or money making by AT&T where instead of they adding towers for signal strength they are asking people to spend money to get signal strength for a service which AT&T is supposed to provide ?
When i had bad signal, AT&T asked me to get microcell..... so i dumped AT&T now and moved to Verizon, I dont think i should pay for getting signal strength when its up to the service provider to do so.
My microcell continues to be the most frustrating thing in my life. It often goes down, not just for me, but across entire city-wide grids (I'm near downtown Los Angeles, uh, where I should have service anyway, but have none!). When it does go down, it can go down for 2, 3, 4 hours, overnight, even longer sometimes. How am I supposed to make business calls? Then all of a sudden, it's back to full bars on my phone. It's not me ATT, it's you. Check your own forums. Fix this now.
is it just me or does 3g data browsing via the microcell seem kinda pointless considering the microcell requires an internet connection to begin with?
@mrlizzard94 this wasnt made for data it was made for cell reception. Many people with 0-1 bar reception zones at their house can still surf 10-15 mbps internets from their phone via wifi. This is for people who text, call, etc
you mention that it is 40' radius. I bought mine with the understanding it goes though the wi fi. where ever I get wi fi I should get reception. Not happening here. I go next to the micro cell I get full bars.
I got a letter in the mail from AT&T. They are giving me a microcell for free. They said i was a valuable customer but i think its because i report issues about their network all the time with my "Mark the spot" app for my iphone! But they are on backorder so i have to wait a week for mine.
This is the fist I have heard about the micro cell. Been thinkin about building a house on some land I have but a big factor was no cell service cause we really don't need a house phone. Very helpful, thanks!
Would you please make a demonstration video of you and a friend on a call so that one can hear the delay in talking? I am strongly considering getting a 3G MicroCell when it comes to my hometown in a week or so, but I want to know the quality. Also, can you sent texts, MMS, and surf the web on 3G? Just wanting to make sure. Thank you so much for your video! Its really helping with my decision.
@MisterL30N The delay is only about 1 second. The person on the other line and you won't even notice the delay. I'll make a video on it when I get back from Europe which will be in 2 weeks.
Yes texts and MMS messages and surfing the web on 3G all work perfectly.
@gmanist1000 Sounds great. Can't wait to see the video! Would you say that the radius of the MicroCell is close to that of a cordless phone? My home is only one story and pretty small, so I'm thinking that I'm covered. I just want to be sure.
@MisterL30N The radius is great, you should be fine if it's only one story and a small area. Right now, I am out of country and won't be back for another 10 days. I will have a lot of videos to make when I get back so stay tuned for those. The MicroCell video might be up after my iPhone 4 unboxing etc.
Got this yesterday and the IPhone 3GS does not connect to the microcell. I have a samsung impression and that immediately showed the AT&T Microcell, but nothing I can do will show the Iphone 3GS. Did you have to do anything special or did it just show up?
@krause28 Make sure that you have entered your number into AT&T's website so that your phone can connect to the MicroCell. You can log into your AT&T account, and then find "AT&T 3G MicroCell Settings" and then you should be able to enter your phone number on that page.
I heard a few complaints about this that are concerning. I read that if you have other non 3G phones, it will keep them from working? I have a 2G iphone and my wife has the 3GS iphone (she is currently getting tons of dropped calls on 3G) hence the reason I am looking to get this. Also heard that voice quality on the receiving end was not very good. You can hear fine, but people can't hear you. And then most concerning, people still having dropped calls? How can it be. Just have to try?
AT&T's word, like their network, can't be trusted. They try to justify their bad behavior in throttling & breaching "Unlimited" data phone contracts by making up their own definitions (just like politicians & small children).
Webster's Dictionary defines UNLIMITED as: (1) lacking any controls, unrestricted -unlimited access-;
(2) boundless, infinite;
(3) not bounded by exceptions --
Call AT&T & complain, notify your state Atty. General, the FCC & FTC; then we'll organize the lawsuits.

Does the Microcell really eat up your bandwidth? I don't want to make serious sacrifices to internet speed just for an iphone.

Quick question. Can I use Comcast internet for Microcell or it has to be ATT internet service installed before I use microcell? thank you!

so when you say it counts against your minutes--does that mean you get charged double? Cell phone minutes and micro cell minutes? Please explain.

With the optional Unlimited Plan, does that include Unlimited Nationwide calling? Or is it just limited to like a regional area?

The voice quality is fantastic, so not sure where you heard that.
Also, I never get dropped calls with the MicroCell, unless I move out of the range of the MicroCell.
