  • what the hell is that farting sound?

  • @ryansnider MG42

  • ANYBODY PLAY THIS ONLINE???

  • have a look at combat mission: battle for normandy, it's very stratigic and looks much like this, but then in 3d

  • close combat games are a must have

  • "squad assault" is close combat 5 in 3D, its even the same maps (if i'm not wrong, i only know the demo)

  • Eey dude I have windows 7 on my PC, but I can run it.

    What's the point of that?

  • @DummyArbiter010 How do u play close comabt with windows &, please help

  • @Foxtrot262 IDK i'm trying to found that out.

  • "Grab 'em by the nose and kick 'em in the ass!" tactics is really useful in this came

  • Nostalgia.

  • Sounds like farts

  • very very very good game :)

  • I used to play this game when i was around 7 - 8 Years old holy shit

  • I played the hell out of CC2. Series was so bad ass, I'd go to bed at night seeing little soldiers crawl all over the walls. Thank God they are making modern versions of it.

Story: after reading FMs and articles on strategy and tactics, I improved my game. My older brother, never doing any of that, played the game for the first time and beat one of the hardest scenarios. Damn military genius.

  • This game is awesome, but when I download it, it always fails, and when the download succeds, when I go to play it, it says it fails, I re-install it like 10 times, but never work, any help me please. D:

  • The best games in this genre is Faces of war and Men of war+Red tide.. In my opinion..

These games were fucking great tho.. sometimes i still play them.

  • Theatre of War 2 - Kursk is I would say a pretty good successor to this series. You can even get a top-down view as in the CC series, makes it feel fairly similar in gameplay even if the UI is a bit different.

What I don't like in ToW2 though is the soldier AI, and they have modeled the german tactical prowess poorly. The Wehrmacht were exceptionally good tactically on the battlefield, while their weakness was in overall strategy because of the inept political leadership and high command.

  • The Red Army was the exact opposite. Strong in strategic oversight and with sound strategic objectives but tactically inept although they learned the hard way and improved in many respects towards the end of the war. So the war on the eastern front saw two gigantic armies clash which were each others exact opposite. In a way this proves the importance of strategy. You can not win a war without a solid foundation in good strategy no matter how good your troops are.

  • @33vortex germans got destroyed by the allied airforce and artillery and the mass infantry and armour cleared up they lost good leaders as the war progressed.

  • i only played Close Combat 2:A Bridge too Far when i was a kid, and loved it, even though i found it really hard.

I found my old CD, but it wouldant install think it was too scratched.

Think il have to try this one out, even though u cant play as the british in it :(

  • How did you make multiple moves with the same unit at once? What are the keys or buttons?

  • the tanks Ai is still low as before

  • what do you mean they didnt update the AI does that mean the enemy troops dont fight worth ashit or.......?

  • Even after all the games such as empire: total war etc, id still play close combat for hours.

your right if they brought this out in 3d id buy it straight away.

  • Love the first one (still got it) but seeing tanks do piruettes and the bigger size of the soldiers on the later installments of killed it for me.

  • I'm in an epic batle on CC5 at the moment in cherbourg harbour, im playing the as the germans and i've got 2 snipers between them with about 100 kills =D

  • Raptor1Delta:

You can play The Longest Day on Vista or Windows 7. The older version, I have not tested and I do not know about them.

  • i havent played this one but i put well over 300 hours in the russain front. i love these games more than any other game out there and i play alot of games for every system as well as computer. can you play these games on windows vista? please respond. and also where the hell can i find them the person at hastings said they were not making them anymore

  • @Raptor1Delta

You can find them at Matrix Games website and download from there. Yes they run on Vista, it's new releases but unfortunately they did not update the AI as guineapig pointed out below. If you can live with that, game on. :)

  • same shitty AI

  • close combat 4 and 5 ruined the style of choosing troops before battle its very limited and stupid but still those games are pure win

  • Close combat é o simulador de guerra, o resto é joguinho, CC the best war simulator.

  • pura verdade, porem o 3 é o melhore deles.

  • if you want close combat in 3d play combat mission

  • @Sneak693

Huge difference, Combat Mission is turn based.

  • not the newer ones

  • @33vortex if u wana c Close Combat in 3d look up a game called Close Combat:First To Fight

  • @DeathBringerSwD

It's a FPS from what I can see, not at all like CC.

  • sry man, u r wrong, the real close combat in 3 d is teather of war.

  • @jonastti

Agreed. Theater of War is a great game concept and very close to CC. If only they would develop it further.

  • @jonastti I agree, but I prefer the infantry battles of CC2 and CC5. Theatre of War infantry AI and street fighting, house to house cleaning, is very poor.

  • jmbrosendo u are right, infantry AI in theatre of war is very poor!

  • jmbrosendo u are right, infantry AI in theatre of war is very poor!

  • I have spent(wasted?) many hours of my life playing Close Combat.

  • just make a mod Close Combat Tactical for Arma2 and bobs your uncle!

  • CC is the chess of WWII games. I love it!

  • I've been playing CC5 for over 5 years now and really got addicted to it. Wonderful RTS indeed, best ever! I would like to play/install the mods but unfortunately I'm a complete informatics noob, so I don't manage - too bad!

Does anyone know when THE LONGEST DAY will hit the European market? Can't find it anywhere here ...

  • what is it difference in world in conflict?

  • World in Conflict is WAAAY different than this game. CC is more like a simulation of WWII small arms infantry and armor tactics while WiC is more like an arcade videogame set in the cold war era. In CC you can literrally shoot at enemies that are located on the other side of the map. The game forces you to use your men wisely and not get them cut down by well placed enemy units. In WiC and games like it, you can keep on dishing out new units but in CC you have a limited number of units.

  • so which one is better? WiC or CC?

  • I prefer Close Combat but if you just gotta have great graphics then you would probably like WiC more. Both are good games but Close Combat is so much more realistic and the map designs in CC are way better... its the kind of game you just don't get tired of playing because each map forces different styles of gameplay.

  • I started playin the close combat series years ago, and ive just started playin again, just briliant gameplay!

  • i have the CC4 Battle of the Bulge original by 1999. The CC Saga is the best RTS

  • I'm having the time of my life playing the Classic Close Combat 4 mod in The Longest Day engine! DAMN

    Best Wargame RTS!!!

  • Does Close Combat The Longest Day have any Lan or multiplay on it?

  • Yes it does

  • my dad plays this alot XD CC:bridge to far :D quite cool when u have a good sniper and good tank people...

  • @erebusparcae Haha, my grandad was actually in this real thing! beat that! Lol.

  • I love the game series. Watching it won't do, you have to try it. I always knew this game won't really attract kids since they usually shallow as desert creek. I gave it another chance when I got in my mid-20's and couldn't stop playing it. So far its the only RTS that makes me feel like I actually won something big and important.

  • i discovered it around a year ago. The first vid i watched on youtube before playing it said: "This is the game". I've tried countless wargames, dozens of them, and this one is the most thrilling, atmospheric and fun, esp CCV with the Stalingrad and GJS add-ons.

  • @emmthreejonny i was like 9 when i first picked up a bridge too far. I bought it at this old gaming store in my town. Ever since ive loved this game. The detail in this game is awesome, this is the most realistic strategy game i have ever played. I hate most FPS games and most strategy games are dull, and just not very real at all.

  • @IMCrawford Try a game called Blitzkrieg as well. Its quite a different RTS but it focuses on manuevering units like CC.

  • @emmthreejonny i own blitzkrieg lol, its a good game and i like it a lot

  • They all play perfectly well for me on XP.

  • this video doesn't do this game justice. this game is awesome, the graphics are outdated but the gameplay is great. i still own this game and play it every now and then

  • my dad used to play this alot. I tried it, but I couldn't get any action out of it for some reason. I might try it again, though.

  • gess they are, coz i play Close Combat The Longest Day under Window XP SP2 and all ok, i think all other games may work too

  • Best tactical game i ever play! Dose anybody play it online ?

  • If U havent played it before OR U're not born yet. I suggest U try it out b4 commenting

  • Me and my father used to play this game all the time when I was like 4-5 years old. Game was made in 1996...Im torrenting it right now cause I wanna play it again so bad haha.

  • Haha!

  • percolating farts.

  • game from the 90s?

  • Even worst.

  • Come on bring us the red army i want to command red army soldiers !

  • CLOSE COMBAT FOREVERRRRRRR

i hope micro will do cc6 for windows 7

its the BESR tactical game ever dat ever ever made!!!

  • =)) crazy farts.

  • I see your point about the graphics and the audio clip and I think that's something they could've easily fixed. But CC doesn't trade on good graphics-it's a great game b/c it takes ammunition and moral into account. It's an incredibly important innovation in the RTS genre

As for the fart sound I think you're referring to the MG42. It's funny that you mention farting, because some people (maybe incorrectly) refer to the MG42 as the "burp gun" as it sounds like a burp (or a fart) when fired

  • Re: sound-loop. All games are like that. We are not in an age where computers make up somewhat descent sounds themselves yet.

Re graphics: It's just a map, it's not meant to be showing hens, animals, and leaves flying across the field. It's just a map.

Why buy it? Because it is great tactical fun. There is to this day not a single game out there that can compete with the CC-series for good tactical fun.

Though the BF-series are getting there, they are not one-player games.

  • Yes, but in this day and age, you could have MORE sound loops, that makes it all seem more realistic. On top of that, games can now have dynamic sound effects (as well as lighting etc), to make the same loops sound different, based on many variables.

Fair enough it's a tactical game, but it's NOT a map. It's a birds-eye view in REAL TIME - hence the genre "real time strategy". The MAP is located in the corner of the screen or something.

This "remake" could have been a lot better...

  • The farting sounds, what else ?

  • Its the soud of MG43 or MG42.

This games is from the 90s

  • there is something like Close Combat in 3d,it's called "Squad Assault".It's not a great game, but it contains all the gameplay of CC series.

  • Matrix and the oldschool CC-boys should know better than to keep some of the worst sounds ever in the series in this one, especially the farty MG42 and the silly dying sounds. These sound like CC5 stock sounds, unfortunately. They should have taken some sounds from CC4-mods (the best ever) and GJS.

Still one of the best games ever made. Played them all :-) Did they buff up the AI?

  • Never played it, cant buy it anywhere in stores here, Cross of Iron was very good with the AI, same goes for this game since its the same developer.

61 dollar/euro is way too expensive for this. I'm gonna wait till this game is cracked. Only way to get it for me.

  • Anyone Know When Its Out In Stores?

It Said April 9, 2009 But its not ?

  • available at Matrix's online store..thats what they meant :))

  • And To Bad This Shit Is Still In 1d

Plus its 61$ Which Isnt Worth 61$.....its More Like 30$

I Can Post The Website On The Comments Cus It Will Rejected it...So Ill Tell it If You Send Me A Message I Would Like To Send The Website to You!

    Btw THREATS-FREE

  • Just because it is a 2D game does not diminish it. For new players it is well worth the price with the enhancements. Great game that is better

  • Great game it is! Been playing this since the 90's. I think I'll be playing it when I retire, it is that good a game. Thanks for posting!

  • i really like this game... i've played all the saga... is so great... =D
