It's about rock dying.. Aoe was a hybrid band that didn't get heard of. Todd brought ass kicking 80's rock to Ryan's manic alt rhythms. This band got caught by the undertow of media & grunge, lost like my youth..
I actually have this video on a VHS tape, somewhere. Along with Ugly, and a few other bands from around Winnipeg (some of which never got their videos even aired on Much Music). My father is friends with people in the business, so we usually got to experience neat stuff, like seeing videos before they were released. Great video, by the way. Always been one of my favorites. :D
Great band. I've been a fan since I first heard "Ugly"... hope they are rediscovered by the next generation through the immortality of the internet...
This is an awesome song! I loved the video and song as soon as I heard it, but I forgot the details and have been trying to remember it ever since.. 15 years later I've finally found it again! Thanks for the vid!
this song is pure musical awesomeness. they wrote many good songs, but this one will past the test of times. The video is amazing too, you can really feel the attitude and the beauty of the song. the bassist is fucking badass and the singer's vocal lines are sick. anybody know what theyre up to today?
Fuck I love this song. It changed my life forever. I was 12 years old when I first heard this. Automatically, I went from dance music to Alternative/ Hard Rock. Became a huge fan of these guys, and used to write friends of the AOE religiously. Broke my heart when they split. Definitely one of Canada's best. Would love to see them reunite. Thanks for posting this, brings back awsome memories.
don't cling too much to these dudes, like my uncle who's like, "ac/dc and led zep are the end-all of music and i'm an old curmudgeon like hank hill" aoe, great? hell yes! but check wolf parade, sunset rubdown, destroyer, arcade fire, black mountain, death from above 1979, malajube, broken s.s., etc, etc, etc,
Oh my goodness!!!! The way they all play their instruments is flippin insane!! And the way this video was shot really shows that. There is something so special about these guys. I was so in love with Todd when I was like 14!! I got to hug him at EdgeFest '97!! Good times :D
I think this was shot in the Legislative Building in Winnipeg, on the main floor...I do know that Ugly was shot in the Hotel Fort Garry...we rock like that here
Great Video , thank you once again for posting it...you rock
Awesome song, such attitude. Nice video too. Where was it filmed?

@PedroRiot - anybody know what theyre up to today?
Glad you like the vid! It was my second time directing a music video (back in the day).
The singer is playing bass in slash's new band
The guitarist went on to form limblifter and is now doing a solo thing (Ryan Dahle)
The drummer is in the New Pornographers
The bass player, I'm not sure about.
Thanks again!

@PedroRiot another of them went on to form a band called "Static in Stereo" ...

Awesome song. Ryan's solo is the best in there. I always prefered Ryan from all four members too for that.

Great band. Todd was always very cool. The drummer, Kurt, was a total dick to the fans. I blame the Dahle brothers for the breakup of this band.
