I'd love to hear you play any speed. It's clear you have worked hard at mandolin and you are doing a great job. For the critic, it's not even at blazing, break-neck speed. It's fast, but still in the "clean" zone.
Yes sir he most certainly can! He does slow music just as good, powerful tremlo, and beautiful tastful playing. He is an all around player. Don't knock someone about they can't do something, just because their not doing it in this video! I'll be glad to send you an mp3 of some very tasteful slow playing my him if you'd like.
dude, ricky ellis is a frickin amazing musician! he's my uncle and i'm over at his shop all the time. he can play anything. he just taught me that song last week at a slower speed!
@mand0play Seriously? I just checked out your videos on your channel, and you couldn't carry Ricky's fucking mandolin case. When you've got 5 world mandolin championships under your belt, maybe then you can talk a little shit. Until then, just keep dipping your skoal and plunking along like the intermediate player you are.
I had that same thing happen when I taped Backbone Bluegrass in Strawberry Point, IA. I had one mic catching the reflection off the hilltop. Hm. Sounds like a slap-echo in the sound system to me, but whatever you say. Anyway, rock-solid pickin.
I agree, pops is a heck of a mandolin player. That's one of the obstacles of a Galax competition if you will. Especially when the bleachers aren't full. There's a big grand stand of concrete bleachers in front of the stage, and the sound reflects alot when they aren't full!
hey ok I just hear it played around here in a very traditional way no offense to anyone
who plays it the way they are comfortable.
please forgive my blunt nature & keep pickin.

There should never be delay/reverb on bluegrass. Sounds great--with a sort of Pink Floyd vibe with the added SFX.

There's actually no delay or reverb on this. Just an effect of the sound bouncing off the stands at the park.
