Nothing like a DJ spinning beats and records in the background of a nature video. lol. It's kinda like playing heavy metal in the background when u were filming little kittens.
Nice scenery., (I live in Oregon)., and I understand how hard it is to get any music by Youtube, but this selection takes away from the serenity of the video...
Well the Rockies do get pretty high in their elevation, the highest peak for the Rockies is Mount Elbert in Colorado and its elevation is 14,440, where as the highest peak in the Cascades is 14,410. So, yes, the Rockies do get as high as the Cascades and even higher. But, it is an absolutely beautiful video and a drive in which I will take sometime this summer. Thank you for a beautiful video... um but didn't like the music so much... sorry.
@TheTaylorAmazing I am not understanding what your comment is meaning. Prominence means to have importance or fame. I do believe the Rocky mountains are very important to our country, The mountains themselves have a big affect on the weather in the surrounding areas, The continental divide is located in the Rocky Mountains, Also a lot of history took place in the Rocky mountains. As far as the fame part, well there are several National parks and National monuments in the Rocky Mt. chain.
@TheTaylorAmazing The Rocky Mts. are extremely beautiful. I have spent several years living in them and exploring them. I am just having a little bit of a hard time understanding what you mean by they have little prominence. The Rockies are considered the back bone of our country. Oh well, I have been to the Sierras, the Cascades, and the Rockies and I love them all just the same, they are all extremely beautiful.
@MsJadedmind Prominence is about a mountains stature from base to summit. My point was the colorado rockies are higher not taller. Keep in mind the rockies sit on top of the high planes.
@TheTaylorAmazing Yes, they may sit on the high plains but, all mountains are measured in height from sea level to their highest point. So if there were a mountain, lets say, in Denver, the mile high city, 5280ft, and this mountain is measured to be say 12,000 ft. well the mountain from the base in Denver to its highest point would actually be 6,720 ft then add on the elevation of Denver 5,280 ft then the height of the mountain is 12,000 ft.
@TheTaylorAmazing As for as the word prominence is concerned, LOL I was goofing around, there are a couple of different definitions to prominence, the first being = The state of being important or famous and 2= the fact of condition of standing out from something by physically projecting or being particularly noticeable. Anyway, yes there are parts of the Rockies that are taller than the Cascades. Not just because they sit on the high plains. Remember they are measured from sea level.
@TheTaylorAmazing So, Keep in mind, that when it is said that the highest mountain in the Rockies is 14,433 ft. and the highest in the Cascades is 14,411 ft. the highest being in the Rockies, not because they are in the high plain, but because they measure the highest from sea level. The start from zero at sea level. So therefore the Rockies are taller.
@MsJadedmind the 14,433 ft mt elbert looks like a big hill, the 14,411 mt rainier looks like a giant volcano. why? because rainier has over 13,000 ft of prominence and elbert a surprising 9,000 which is tops in colorado. prominence makes a mountain spectacular not elevation. The rockies are higher not taller.
@TheTaylorAmazing Well if you are looking at the Cascades from a base elevation of say 500 to 600 feet yes of course they will look taller, like I was saying if you are looking at a mountain in Denver that is 12000 ft from a base of 5280ft, that 12000 ft mt you are only going to see 6720 ft of that mountain, because the elevation at the base is already 5280 ft. But that does not mean that it is smaller. Just means that you are at a higher point looking at the peak.
@TheTaylorAmazing I am sorry you are wrong, they are taller. 14,433 ft is taller than 14,411 ft is it not. if you are standing at the very bottom of two mountains that were sitting side by side (and I mean very bottom) one is 14,433 ft and the other is 14,411 ft. which one would be taller? Of course the 14,433 ft. mountain. Like I said before they do not go by what YOU see, they go by measurement from sea level.
@TheTaylorAmazing I just think you are misunderstanding me in what I am saying. The only reason you only see a surprising 9000 ft of Mt, Elber is because when you are looking at it you are already at an elevation of several thousand ft; that was my point. Just because it LOOKS taller, does not mean it is. It just means you are looking at two different mountains from two different elevations. If they were next to one another, and you on top of Elbert, you would be lookin down on Rainier
@MsJadedmind It's funny how people in colorado think the mountains are 14000 tall when in fact their barely taller than the appalachians. elevation means nothing unless you into nose bleeds. its seems are definitions of tall and high are not the same.
@TheTaylorAmazing Oh Lord, I am going by how they officially measure EVERY mountain. They are measured from sea level and then they go to the highest point on the mountain. Now, if you do not believe me, google it... Type in your address bar how mountains are measured. It will tell you this. But I learned this when I was in geography in school 30 yrs ago. Not to mention it.... I study it also,
@MsJadedmindI'm talking prominence not elevation. I know what the fn elevation is. colorado has dozens of 14ers none of which have 14000 ft of prominence. most of colorados 14ers have less than 5,000 feet of prominence which makes them 3,000 to 5,000 foot mountains that are 14,000 feet in elevation.
@TheTaylorAmazing You are getting irritated for no reason. I just got finished telling you that we are pretty much talking the same thing, only it is being misunderstood. I don't understand why everyone wants to argue on youtube. Just does not make sense to me.
Thumbs down due to the screwed up "music". You should be aware that this is somewhat of a dangerous roadway to drive for a wide range of reasons. Distracted drivers looking at the scenery, avalanches both rock and snow and bad drivers combined with a bad roadway. Drive this road at your own risk.
The Rockies and the surrounding areas in B.C and Alberta look the same if not better... but still breathtaking, Go there on the Rocky Mountaineer if you get the chance :)
@Daniel7681 The Rockies are beautiful. Growing up in AB, (Cindy) here, my family vacations were often in the Rockies :) The difference for me with this pass is that we were actually so high (and it is closed in the winter due to it's elevation), were were at the edge of some of the snow. The Rocky passes don't reach that elevation.
