Look at a Tiger Flare, My Dept switched to them. Exact same thing as a powerflare but a 6 pack is only 90$ not 500$ like a power flare. w w w . t i g e r f l a r e . c o m
I bought 3 for my brother when he drove to UT and 3 for myself. They work GREAT and they are basically indestructible. They are extremely well made and you can see them in day or night.
I agree with others here, seems very pricey. It's because their basic design requires a lot of LEDs. I agree that a flashlight in strobe, with a diffuser would also do the job. In fact, take a pack of modeling clay in your car and you can stand the flashlight up in the road. And it's easy to buy a quality flashlight for less than $50... and you still have a flashlight when not in use. Thanks for making the video though.
These are cool and all but I wouldn't want to put one of these on the ground. I've put out flares and had idiots run over them. At $50 a pop I'd be VERY unhappy if one of these was run over.
On the belt or on top of the car would be OK though.
$180 seems a lot for three or four. You could get three or four little Fenix/4Sevens etc flashlights for that money. Put a red filter on the end and set them on strobe, same thing but more versatile.
Good thinkin'! I like what I've read about Fenix flashlights. I understand they'll work under water too, don't know if these Power Flares (PF) are submersible though it was not a feature stated. I think I'll stick with the flares as I don't think PFs will increase safety. Also reg flares can be used for starting a fire, you can also empty their contents and use it to burn through metal. I'm not sure why you'd want to burn through metal but it IS another use.
I bought a couple of these at Costco a few years ago. Don't know if they are the same make but they look identical. And were much cheaper than the 2012 price at Shot Show. I've noticed Kirkland AA batteries don't last a year on stand-by. Wonder if, rather than a battery issue, is there a small parasitic drain from the device itself. Also the on / off switch on mine is hard to see in poor lighting....so I colored it with nail polish -- now it is in a contrasting colour.
