Excellent song about this system. Thanks. It is a pity they dismantled it. Transport planners of this time had to be really stupid. Commuting by cars is stupid. Public transport is more space effective and ecological. After WWII there were so many deleted streetcar systems in US. Why? Stupid automobilism eror fate of your country.

Bay area taxpayers footed the bill when BART was built to replace the KeySystem. There's no reason in hell why BART, or MUNI light rail service, could not have used the lower level of the Bay Bridge.

By the time they were constructing BART, the Bridge had already been converted to one direction on each deck, and I don't think people wanted to go back. Plus, there'd be more traffic gridlock because of less lanes.
Maybe they should've made a third deck?

@boazrg the bart system travels in the channel instead of bridge so it creats 2 more lanes on the bridge for traffic on both deck on the bridge the 3 lane bridge was hazard enough because the lane was narrow and its suitable for Volkswagon, Yaris, and other subcompanc cars.

It's time we bring light rail back to the East Bay, if you ask me. AC Transit buses suck.

As a former AC Transit bus driver. I have to agree with you. These Van Hool buses are horrible. The best bus ever built was the GM New Look/ Fish Bowl. They were built from 1959 to 1986. A truly superior bus design WAY ahead of its time.
