I went to see the b.r's at Glasgows apollo in 1978. (a tonic for the troops tour) Their two songs in the charts previous to this both got to No 1. 'rat trap'+ i dont like Mondays. This was the best track out the 3 by a million miles and we all just didnt know how this one never topped the charts..... 'just one of musics great mysteries'
I've listened to this song 1,000 times and it still sounds fresh. In fact, the whole damn album is a masterpiece. The Rats took new wave to a new level.
if i had a wish come true,it would to meet Sir Bob Geldoff,he had a lot to do with my younger days...my brother Alan was cut short in his time,19 years old!,my mother still has 4 track of him sayin "i hate mondays"....30 years ago..i am stuck on Diamond smiles..but if you are lookin, just say Hi...kk

the part without music sounds like "i love her, she loves me, but i don't miss her society." i think tis called "down in the boondocks."

Nobody saw her go,
They said they should have noticed
'cos her dress was cut so low.
Well it only goes to show
Ha, ha, how many real men any of us know.
She went up the stairs,
Stood up on the vanity chair,
Tied her lame belt around the chandelier,
And went out kicking at the perfumed air.

Best Rats song this. Tells a story in a rythmic, clever manner. Rat Trap is similar - both brilliant!

she hangs herself cause she gets all prettied up for a party. and all they care about is who theyre wearing. clothing wise.
so she hangs herself, dun break her neck.
hence " and she went out kicking at the perfumed air "

I loved The Rats in the late 70s..before conceit became Bob's alter ego.
