Thats why that rescue team is out there at a minimum of once a week. A day after I filmed this an experienced climber fell and had to be air lifted out of there. I have nothing against free climbing, just safety. Its those that aren't careful that puts everyone else at risk. Thats not being a pussy, that's being responsible and not just thinking of myself. My sons friends dad died after falling about 12 feet on the east bluff 2 years ago. I guess he was a wuss, huh? And the helicopter?
Free climbing is stupid. It can cost you your life, and it ruins it for the rest of us also. This is happening too much at devils lake now, and all it means is possible restrictions for those of us that actually follow the rules and climb it as a sport, not because we are idiots looking for a stupid way to hurt ourselves or die
You make Devils Lake seem so dangerous. I free climb there atleast once every week in the summer. The only way you can fall is if you are being stupid. The Bluffs aren't any steeper than the hill in my back yard.
LOL, you must have a big back yard. Devils Lake is awsome, but like with everything else in life, you have to be careful. Lots of people have died on those bluffs, including someone I knew. Stay on the trails and you will have no problems. Free climb? You put 16 other people you don't know in danger when they finally have to come and rescue your butt! Now that's fair. Phil

devils lake is my fav place in the world, i love it and all, but why be so dramatic about it?

This helicopter crashed a few months ago in Lacrosse killing all on board after transporting someone to a hospital.

Actually it wasn't this particular aircraft. It was a newer EC 135, N135UW. The helicopter in this video is an Augusta 109 Power, N1UW
