My Strategy: Find out what the players are like, develope ways to get at their weak points without others getting involved by attacking and defending certain ways, take North america & South america to get the bonus, the go from there.
@MrAsir666 Glad you liked the series. Remember once you have the technical skills that this series covers - it's all about diplomacy. Keep you ego in check and let others blow hot and cold whilst you stay powerful enough to strike when the time is right. Good luck!
I agree with you for most of the continents. but europe has four borders, with attacks coming from both sides. and you are in the center of the board. everyone will surround you. In asia, you have five borders. but if you capture russia, then that will go down to four. If you also secure Austrailia, you will have three borders, and 9 extra units coming in each turn. that is a game ender if your enemies do not gang up on you
@676productions Yeah - IF they dont gang up on you which of course they will. However you make your argument well and if it works for you fantastic. It's just in our games if anyone gets even a sniff of North America, Europe or Asia they get pounced upon (until they are too strong, even then alliances can form to stop you). I accept each game with different people is different though.
@HistoryGamerDotCom True, it is hard to get all of those. I once got it in a three player game where we selected manualy. If you are in a larger game and in an alliance with another player you might be able to share the area. Forfeiting the army bonus each round. Thanks for the great strategies.
@676productions ooh! I like that idea. A firm alliance where no one gets the bonus. Yeah that would work and the others wouldnt be too jealous either. I'll add that to my toolbox of strategies. Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the series.
I had the same problem with "Australia" when I first started playing this game back in the '70s. I thought it was the best because it was easy to defend. I often got trapped in there by someone who buffered Siam.
@NaturalTwentyFilms Exactly my point. Why are people so fixated with it? For me its a sign of a beginner, although I know of a few experienced players who play it, it's just they make sure they get Siam as well.
I always start with North America or Asia and I always win. Also if you decide to take Asia you should also take Australia and Russia and you will have to defend only on 3 fronts. Also if you have North America you still defend on only 3 fronts but if you take South America too, it's an extra continent and still only 3 fronts. I almost never start with Europe or Africa.
I feel you should also consider the dedication of your opponents. How far are they willing to go to secure their personal favorite? If the answer is they are willing to throw everything they have towards gaining it, then it's probably best to look elsewhere. In the beginning, all players basically start as equals, so fighting a bitter war over a 2 bonus hurts both sides. I also consider where I already have troops as it's far easier to hold a bonus if you already have some muscle there. Good vid
@Dauntless07 yes considering opponents plans is always a wise idea. I wouldn't be bullied out of South America though. We'd both just sit there with massive armies. (the nightmare scenario). i'm in no hurry to win, it's a long game, and I would use diplomacy to get my opponent out if possible.
A good strategy is to take Australia then push into India and China. With that place reinforcements into Alaska so that you can begin to take N.America. I personally never try to take Asia at first, mostly because everyone I play with tries to take it, it's too big to try to take, like he said it is very hard to take and even harder to hold. But, what i tend to do is take N.America, then push into S.America, because there you have 7 reinforcements with half the fighting.

I am very lucky... I held all of Asia in a 6 player game and lost only two territories: Afganistan and Middle East. I won in the end :)
