Seems a bit strange that the Alliance fleet should need your input as to whether to save the council or not. The Citadel arms were still closed when they got there, and the geth ships were in the way anyway, so why not blast them to bits while they're waiting?

you imply that when faced with its own eminent (i.e. there are actually reapers outside of the airlock) destruction, the council will still not act. it in fact it definitely will(I mean, come on!)

the council species will still act against the reaper if the original council is dead, but the distrust(dialogue in ME2) will make the species respond like a uncoordinated "bunch", and get slaughtered one species at a time.

which is what the reapers want, in a way, divide and conquer.
