@dannydanker so they give you their cards - and you shuffle them in blocks of 5, like he said. then you deal out the cards in to the piles (there is 5 people, so 5 piles (of 5)) Then they point to the pile that there card is in - (so go to the woman in green) he asks her what pile her card is in. (she points to pile 1) he knows that she had the 4♣ as her key card. the 4♣ is the 2nd to last card in its pile - so her card must be the second to last card in the pile that she pointed at. her card=7♦

it works because it takes each persons original hand, and spreads it across the new 5 hands. in other words the original hand that had the ace, the new hands should all have one card from that original hand in the same position as that ace.

you can understand how this works if you watch closely the way he spreads the cards after he takes them back from the "victims". each five card hand is divided in 5 pieces ,one in each column . so when he ask about the column the card is in he aligns with the key card and finds the card selected

got a couple of variations on the performance for example u dont need any key cards and you can do it with all the cards face down and with any number of spectators from 2-7. Brilliant trick and good performace.

Looked at just the effect, not the explanation. Like always, my guess.

Since brian puts all cards together and then divides them into five hands, he gets five hands with one card per person. The moment the person says in which hand his/her card is, brian immediately knows which card belongs to which person, and give the card that belongs to him/her.
