  • Has anyone ever managed to do "bow pizzicato" which is playing pizzicato with the bow instead of just your fingertips?

  • mikecannbass and keepthefunk are right. Beginners should be more oriented to a getting a real, fat acoustic sound. For beginners, it should be about bowing long tones, first open strings, then scales and stuff.

But these days, a lot of folks are always playing in an amplified context where getting a "real" sound is almost irrelevant. Though I hate to admit it, approaching the upright bass like an electric instrument might actually make some sense.

  • thats not how you pizzacato... you use the meat of your finger "the side" to get a better sound.

  • expertvillage seems to have more than its fair share of idiots.

  • Don't forget that just because you can play pizz with two fingers on your electric doesn't mean it will sound the same on the upright. If you're going to use a two finger technique which is usually used for fast passages or soloing you need to practice getting those fingers to pluck in time and you also need to build strength on the upright bass. Electric and Upright are two DIFFERENT instruments, there's no way to cheat practicing.

  • ewwwww

  • good sir, please never play the bass again

  • big sound?? hahaha...

  • he needs to die...

  • you need to use the meat of ur finger too. using the tips will never give you a big sound. this isn't electric

  • where the hell did you learn this shit from. this is worst possible way to play pizzicato

  • hey i need to the scales can some one help me.

  • I'm 5-7 is the 1/2 bass a good size to start or a 3/4 size bass

  • @Gravedigger323 You need a 3/4 size. 1/2 sizes are for much smaller people and children.

  • @Gravedigger323

It probably just depends whether you have to transport it a lot. You practically need a van for a 3/4 size I hear. Not to mention a 1/2 size probably costs a lot less.

  • @BassGuitarGuy128 You can fit a 3/4 by laying down the front seat of most cars which allow the bass to lay either on its side or back, depending on the size of you car. Mine fits nicely in my 2002 Honda Accord.

  • he still sucks...he can't even teach the basics correctly

  • he is using electrical bass pizzicato technique. That is why his sound is so thin

  • this guy has it together... he knows how to teach....thanks

  • @latvianderk

No, he teaches the most basic wrong. You should play more vertical with your fingers just like mikecannbass said

  • you will get a way bigger and better sound if you keep your fingers more vertical to the strings.

  • I like this guy the best out of all the expert village bass lessons!
