Random selection is most often used, for example the names of students will be pre-written on sticks & then picked out of a cup.You can leave what the child will find open-ended or ask the child to identify something specific such as a word or punctuation.Scaffolding possibilities for a particular message are developed in advance w/ the skill levels of all the children in mind.A scaffolding lesson would be tailored to the skill set of a particular child & based on what they found in the message.
Are the children randomly chosen or do you pre-plan scaffolding opportunities for certain children? Also, do you ask the children to find specific things or do you allow them to find anything on their own at first? Is there some kind of directive given beforehand? For example, "I need to see who can find a WORD for us?"
