Now that's a Sailor........... I wish I had the chords to play on guitar... I know it's G to D then D to G when the girl is singing, but I'll have to figure out the rest... Go BILL...!!
what has happend to prive jack from liverpool who sung this better than anyone, he sang in the old bill on westminster rd the albert an the bramley moore dock rd
my mom used to sing this to me, but with different lyrics. I still love Barnacle Bill (and my mom's "weird song of the month" routine to introduce us to these old gems)
@Pelaos1962 Very true: scratchy noises add to the character of a song, but it's a good idea to take good care of your records when you can. Also, as a man who has been known to spend several hours cleaning up a single minute of classic music (by hand, using only mechanical means) I'm always in favor of cleaning up a transfer (like his record to this video) when possible.
Hello! I have a collection of 78's too. :-) Thank you for posting this REAL GEM! I learned the Bix Beiderbecke version when I was a kid...(i had borrowed it from a public library)....But never ever heard this one. This is really a piece of recorded history and I love it! THANKS AGAIN!!!

My sister and I used to get in bed with Dad on Saturday mornings and, while we hid under the covers, he would sing this song to us! Happy memories.

I had this back in the 50's. I forgot the B side,- can you tell me the title?
