  • My sister and I used to get in bed with Dad on Saturday mornings and, while we hid under the covers, he would sing this song to us! Happy memories.

  • my mom used to sing this to me, but with different lyrics. I still love Barnacle Bill (and my mom's "weird song of the month" routine to introduce us to these old gems)

  • Bill is a man's man.

  • don't apologize for the quality of the sound! the scratchy noises adds character to the song!

  • @Pelaos1962 Very true: scratchy noises add to the character of a song, but it's a good idea to take good care of your records when you can. Also, as a man who has been known to spend several hours cleaning up a single minute of classic music (by hand, using only mechanical means) I'm always in favor of cleaning up a transfer (like his record to this video) when possible.

  • I love this recording! Thanks..

  • my dad used to sing this to me when i was kid! thanks for uploading this!

  • Hello! I have a collection of 78's too. :-) Thank you for posting this REAL GEM! I learned the Bix Beiderbecke version when I was a kid...(i had borrowed it from a public library)....But never ever heard this one. This is really a piece of recorded history and I love it! THANKS AGAIN!!!

  • I love Barnacle Bill!this brings back childhood memories...

  • 'So that's where they got Popeye & his 'goyl' Olive Oyl from eh!?'
