That's how you remove a hook from your fish? Yeah, nice job! If you really planned to release the fish then perhaps the first step wouldn't be to slam the fish on the bottom of the boat.
That sea bass was used to demonstrate the multi uses of the combo tool. Ordinarily there would have been a cooler at the Captains feet and the fish would have gone in it with no fin spikes to your hands. The fish was of legal size and it went on the stringer ... not released
@TheMNbassHunter im pretty sure a slam on the boat is better than being beaten to death a couple minutes later :P PS Looks delicious and that dehooking idea is great !
@RabRabNZ what is the difference between being slammed to the floor or being beaten? It's essentially the same thing. You either hit the blunt object or the blunt object hits you. The captain does not say it will be kept. The very next sentence after the fish hits the floor is "now if we planned to release this fish..." He then shows how to use the vent tool followed by the comment "... and away we go". If a novice fisherman watches that he may think that is how you release it.
