  • FUCKING RIGHT!!!!

  • hij is te gek

  • Die vielfach unterschätzte Cindy !!!! Tolle Version des Klassikers ! Ist übrigens mittlerweile auch eine gute Blues Sängerin geworden !

  • anyone know where to find a HD version of this cover....

  • like this one most

  • jeez, the quality is terrible....

  • Man, I would have stuck dick all up in her back then!!

  • She's good

  • cyndi will always have a special place in my heart

  • it's funny that people think you have to do a cover better than the original.....Cyndis a phenominal singer and pays great respect to John by doing his music and keeping the man alive....who gives a shit who does it better....no one does it better than the man wrote it....its just s tribute to him....

  • just by accident listened my way through the Working Class Hero covers - the one's that don't work for me are those that try to sound just like the record they listened to as teens:

Green Day, Marilyn Manson, even Marianne Faithful just repeat the song -

    - unlike David Bowie & Tin Machine and ... Cindy Lauper.

Doing something new with the song, something exciting is the only reason why you do a cover in the first place?

  • cyndi digs john, so i dig cyndi. good cover.

  • I love the guitars!

  • How many of US are fucking perfect? Perfect for Who? You get your ass up there & sing It!! To all of You Haters...I hope You find perfect, cuz there Is no such thing.

  • i like this version.

  • that was fucking cool!

  • wow shes fuckin garbage

  • FUCK i was begging to be rick rolled

  • Whos the guitarist?

  • Like this version. Not Lennon, but got feeling.

Anyone have a better version? This is little to much compressed to have good sound.

  • marilyn manson's way better

  • she's a good singer but i like john's way better

  • ow my ears.....

  • i had this video of the whole concert and some one stole it on me. Been spewin ever since

  • That Stinks. l know the video, and love it

  • Awesome Cyndi Lauper!

  • lennon was so much betttttter

  • Comment removed

  • Lennon would of loved the Guitars ....

    Awesome version and

    Cindi lays down the vocals

    STOP THE MACHINE

    FIGHT THE INSANITY

    Corporations Make Slaves

  • Individuals make themselves slaves. Live free or die. It's your choice who you serve.

  • Great! wonderful! amazing!

  • she is an awesome singer.............there is like 10 covers for this song lol

  • Lennon's is obviously the best. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.

  • @twelvescofflenard no swedish jerry williams hgot the best performance, check it out here on youtube

  • @twelvescofflenard "Best." Oh right. It's a contest. I forgot.

  • John's is the best. Obviously he wrote it he had the most emotion behind it

  • ozzy's version is the badest

  • green days is the best

  • ozzy's version is best EVER ! !

  • zajebisteeeeeeeeeeee

  • surprised to like this version

  • what are you on john lennons original is by far the best

  • not it is not. these two ladies make lennon's version number three.

i mean, what is this here, aren't i allowed to utter my free opinion any more, or what?

  • did she really change the lyrics? ....pathetic

  • ack Molto47 - JL would sing: What have they done to my song?

  • If you knew anything about JL you would know that he would love her to death.

  • green day is much better

  • yer but lennons is the best though

  • Cyndi knows something about being from "the working class"--or its Amer. equivalent.

  • Passionate

  • Great interpritation but JL still is god

  • this is my favorite cover of this song. Did she record it for real?

  • no. Was at the John Lennon concert in Liverpool. I was there!

  • Loved it! 5/5!

  • John Lennon and/or Marianne Faithfull much mor better

  • Agree with other posters - not as good as Lennon, but otherwise, the best I've ever heard - and a lot of ppl have covered this one.

  • One of the best female vocalists alive. Highly underrated.

  • Way to go Cyndi.

  • its such a good song that i think anyone who does it gets somthing from it. im a trucker and I roll across the lad to this shit. I know I dont count but this makes me feel like i do.

  • Fair play to you mate. I know what you mean.

  • :O

It really sounds georgeous in a girl's voice .. in her voice :)

Cindy and Lennon , such a great performings ♥

  • Great great singer.

  • Frankly, if you can't sing the lyric as it was written, sing something different. HELP, Hide Your Love Away, I'm a Loser are basically the same theme. There's wording in this song that is aggressive and to remove those words to please a TV producer is to castrate the song. Otherwise, nice performance.

  • I don't get why people try and compare tributes to the original singer. Just learn to enjoy something for what is it. If it's horrible because the singer has no talent then I can understand saying it's horrible. But, that's def not the case here.

  • This version is the best Ive ever heard/seen, except Lennons own and Marianen Faithfuls..

All who criticisize and disrespect this.. are only jealous..

    TT

  • was she drunk?

  • Don't be an idiot. She used to sing in this manner.Listen to her now and live. She is awesome.

  • what yr is this please anyone?

  • this video is from the `tribute to John Lennon´-Concert. think it was ´90 or ´91.

The best cover of this song i´ve ever seen.

  • love cyndi but this song was wrote and sung by john lennon

  • BRAVO!

  • ¿que se cree esta mensa para fusilarse tan buena cancion? ¿no tiene cerebro o ideas buuuuuu? que desepcion

  • i thought the same at first. like "try to sing the song as its recorded or leave it, its a masterpiece" but then i thought "well, she can sing, why not . better than the freakin´greenday or marilyn manson versions" but she should actually sing the words as they were written plus there is ABSOLUTELY no reason for this heynanaheynanahee choir in my opinion... and noone ever gets HIS groove. just too stiff . . .

  • TOTAL destruction of the song's meaning by the 'style' it is sung and by the stage performance!

  • Guess she thinks the song is about drugs or something like that...

  • I couldn't disagree more with you two blokes! This cover is fab.

In fact, I never gave Cindi much credit until I saw this take because she came out of such a lousy pop music scene in the eighties.

This however is stellar and the true emotion of it pours out palpably! John would really dig this.

  • I'm a Lennon fan and I REALLY like this! It takes a lot for me to like covers of any of the Beatles songs...this is right up there with Cocker doing A Little Help from My Friends. I like it lots better than what Marianne Faithful does...LOTS!

  • She's just so sexy!! <3

  • The band had Terry williams on drums from Dire Straits, Tim Renwick on guitar, who is excellent and has played with everyone. Dave Edmunds put the band together and is on guitar also. It was freezing, with a cold wind blowin off the Mersey, and Cyndi was one of the best that night. Kylie doin 'Help' was bloody awful.

  • Not bad at all.. bu the band is pretty lousy

  • I'm a cyndi-fan, but the Marianne Faithfull version is so much better.

sorry, cyndi (see you in vienna-concert, October the 30th).

  • Siempre seras grande Cyndi...........!!!!!!!!

  • This is nice cover. I have to say my favorite is Marianne Faithfull's but this is good too, nice job Cyndi .... your voice is always beautiful.

  • Cindy is awesome, her guitart and band don't have a good sound. The slide guitar player and keyboardist didn't pull it through, Cindi is awesome.

  • Wow, I really like Cyndy, but I just don't get it...

  • I think you'll actually find that this cover is a tribute to John Lennon, not for profit whatsoever. Why are so many so against covers? It's quite pathetic, no one's saying you have to like it but at least respect a talented artist that just wants to play tribute to one of their favourite musicals/bands.

  • @untoldsarcasm

I am the Lennon Fan, too. John would encourage people Instead of putting them down. You said It, Respect! Rock on Darlin!

  • Cyndi sang this song at the John Lennon Tribute Concert in May 1990. It was never released as a single. There were loads of different artists doing Lennon songs. Even Kylie Minogue was there covering 'Help'. I should know, as I went to the concert.

  • 2:00 wow

  • @WishesNeverComeTrue No emotion? Did you watch the same video I did?

  • Oh calm down. I only said that it was ironic if "Marianne could feel and express this song (Working Class Hero) so much better."

  • Your comment is ironic given that Marianne Faithfull had an aristocratic background whereas Cyndi grew up dirt poor in Queens.

  • I have listened to several versions of this, and actually, this is the only version that appeals to me at all. and I am not crazy about it anyway, but at least Cyndi has a voice, which MF never did, by any objective standard, even in her prime. The song that made her career was one that was even in MJ's vocal range. Her look pretty much gave her the fleeting notice that she had.

  • i love cyndi very much but for this song its marianne all the way

  • I am sure John would have liked this. Cyndi is my all time favorite female singer. And the Beatles are my all time favorite group. Because in my view, nobody has topped either of them.

  • STOP THAT!!!!!!

  • "Indian like squaw dances"

    wow what a tasteless remark...

  • I have never seen a musician elevate a song so emotionally strong that the band hangs right there with her, and she accents the song with Indian like squaw dances. Unbelievable, makes the hair stand right up.

    Elevator57

  • she doesn t know the lyrics or probably she had a blank...or she was nervous...and so WHAT???This version is excellent...the band is really good and cyndi´s voice is amazing. She uplifts the essence of this beautiful song.We make mistakes we´re humans.

  • i love it! i think i have 7 verisons of this song on my pc :D love it love it

  • All you fuckin moaners kill me..she performed..you type...........enoug said..........go Cindi

  • Yoko put this concert together, correct? She wouldn't invite Cyndi to perform if she didn't think she would do justice to John's music. .

  • She does a FANTASTIC job here. This song cannot be pigeonholed. Lennon would be pissed at some of the comments here. All he ever wanted was for us to FUCKING WAKE UP and stop fighting each other. Is that so hard to do? I guess it is.

  • I have always wished that Cyndi Lauper had had the chance of expressing herself through material like this rather than the fluff she's known for. I like the fluff; it's great fluff, but she has the talent for more substantial songs like this.

  • It was filmed live in Liverpool many moons ago, she did a smashing job of this song,

one of my faves of the whole gig.

Angst and passion at it best, just what the song is all about.

  • Well, i was there and saw it live.

It was filmed live in Liverpool many moons ago, she did a smashing job of this song,

one of my faves of the whole gig.

Angst and passion at it best, just what the song is all about.

  • It´s not good!!!!!!!!!!

  • If Patti Smith sang this it would fucking devastate. This just isn't working.

  • Very strange that comments of putting Cidy Lauper down here.I see and hear a deeply truthful desperated gospel approach, which definitely fits fo the song.

Who wants to pidgeonhole Cindy Lauper by her hit <Girls just wanna have fun<?

Cindy had some really dark melancholic songs like TIME AFTER TIME and TRUE COLORES and songwriter albums..

  • does she know what's this song is about?because she's acts like it's something completely different...

  • It always amazes me how some people think their opinions are definitive for everyone else. If you think it sucks, fine. If you think its great, fine. Its art and the appreciation of art is a subjective experience.

  • Wow, what a way to try to educate someone. But I did objectively watch that clip (as it's not about you, it's about her). 'Only Fun Stuff' was out of line, but 'Working Class Hero' needs that guttural anger, that detest, that vitriol, and it just can't come through with her voice. Alanis Morissette could do it, but not Cyndi. She has her own special thing, but it is just not meant for dark, angry, piss 'n vinegar kind of stuff.

  • I have to agree with you there. I even like marilyn manson's cover better.

  • Maybe she felt the heart of it, but Dear Lord, she knows she doesn't have the voice to do anything but fun stuff. Maybe she's doing this ironically, in the sense that, "Yes, I know my voice can't carry the weight of the song, but just imagine if it COULD!"

  • Dear Lord, she's got a better voice than Lennon. I like the guy's songs, and they're nothing alike, but if I had to compare the two, I'd say Cyndi wins over him any day.

  • damn, what a disaster

  • its great.she have her own version.people who knows music will know shes great.maybe your always thinking of john lennon singing.she's the female version of the song.

  • Loved it! 5/5!

  • la cancion es bonita pero aqui la hacen horrible ag

  • I didn't really like the way she sang it, but I loved the musical arrangement!

  • ya, this didn't do the song justice at all, it needs SOUL! power, cindi lauper isn't a bad singer but she really needs to put forth an effort for this

  • Smrt fašizmu, sloboda narodu

  • If it was out of 10... Id give er one!!

  • I agree a goddamn lot chap, this chick didn't put any feeling in such a strong song

  • This is Awful

  • Well said!!!!

  • Cmon people, lennon was magic, wtf is this??? Stick to ur girlie tunes sweetheart!!!

  • It fuckin' suuuuuuucks !!!!!!!!

  • this is fucking stupid.... what the fuck

  • Cyndi is fantastic.

Kudos to her for tributing such an epic song.

  • Ummm..I didn't like this version...She scares me....

  • It doesn't matter how many artists will sing this song JohN's version will always stay the best one!!!

  • cyndi did a great tribute

  • This woman can reach 4 octaves with her voice. Not many can do that. She's awesome.

  • So vocal range now equates to musical talent?

Really don't think so. Just because someone can burp like no other doesn't make them a good bass.

  • No. Her musical talent is not based purely on her vocal range, if you judged her on more than just this one performance and maybe a few 80s songs then you would know that. Why bother making a comment about an artist you obviously know nothing about?

  • "So vocal range now equates to musical talent?" Uh, yeah? 4 octaves is pretty impressive. Aside from that, she has exceptional control and the ability to manipulate her voice. It doesn't show on this song, I'll admit that, but seriously. Anyone who knows a whit about music has to admit, even if they're not a fan, that she's talented.

  • Aaaaaah!

  • Cyndi Lauper IS a working class hero.

  • She sings it better than Green Day, and maybe even better that Lennon. I mean her voice is the best, but it's Lennon's song

  • of course not, this sucks, john lennon's version and green day's version is much better

  • The John Lennon version far surpasses Cyndi's take on it... but Cyndi's was only a tribute.

    Green Day's version better? LOL

  • green day sings it better

  • Nothing against Cyndi Lauper but it sounds like her vocal chords exploded and some gurgling/scratchy noise is emitting itself from her throat. Yikes!

  • ummm... yea i agree

  • HA!! ME a Retard? Look at yourself!! IF you have the attention span or the mind to sit though this I admire your courage!!

  • While this may not be my favourite performance by her it is still decent. You obviously know nothing about her and your comment made you sound like a 12 year old

  • watch the video response to this to see why she is far from sucking.

  • Fine Ill watch it then Ill see If ill take it back or not

  • Obviously Ewokdude3, you sat though it and you're no hero.

  • LOL, he was obviously pwnd.

  • FUCK THIS Bitch AND KILL HER IMMMEDIATLEY!!SHE SUCKS AND KILLED THIS SONG!!

  • Damn lol what's with the anger??? Did she kill your family or something? O.o lol

  • no marilyn

  • this is even worse than manson

  • shit,this sux!

  • A working class hero is still something to be! Thirty years,or a hundred, thats who most of us are. Lenon was a prophet. One of the few people who saw the world as it truly is.

  • Where the heck is the Bowie version of this? That's the best AFAIC

  • i just hate her voice

  • very cool

  • I love Cyndi performing her own stuff but... she seems to butcher every Lennon song she attempts. Simply aweful.

  • phil, I don't know man, this performance gives me the goosebumps. I think this lovely girl is singing from her heart.

  • thanks.

  • omggggggg i have looked for yrs for this perfomance my ex had it on video and i used to watch this over and over and ove again for i to am a singer and loved the way she sang this also out of every on who performed at this concert she was the only one who said "Thank You John"
