  • Where's the best place to get these? eBay? Or do they still have a dealer, or anything?

  • The first song sounds almost the exact same as Bob Dylan simple twist of fate.

  • gorgeous guitar, sounds great! love the knobs and tailpiece. finish is beautiful too.

  • i have to ask, where do you get all these guitars? is it mostly ebay? Great playing! =)

  • Wow, like those speedbumps.

  • Very nice guitar,good sound.

  • I don't think the Swingmasters had speed bump pickups, I've not seen a Kay like yours, very cool, love the tone of the pickup. I've seen several Swingmasters and they've all had the Barney Kessel or "kleenex box" pickups on them. The best one of the Kays I've seen are the Upbeats with 3 Kleenex box pickups, big ass guitars with great tones.....

  • Nice guitar,very good sound.

I love old guitars,i have Famus.

  • whats the second song?

  • I bet those oranges helped you become a great guitarist

  • Great - a man of many talents! How many guitars have you collected?

  • i want this guitar

  • the time has passed but the sounds are still going! love all the awesome guitars and playing in your vids!

  • Reminded me of Eclipse by Pink Floyd meets Nick Drake meets Kiss Me (the theme for Dawson's Creek.

    D Minor for the win.

  • About how much would i be paying for one of those kays... I really want one

  • man o' man ! your amp/guitar is buzzing like an attack of killer bees ! Isn't there some kind of grounding that can be done to fix that because frankly that buzz is of no benefit to a professional.......

  • were did you get all this vintage guitars?

  • The first chord progression is very similar to "Something" by the Beatles.

  • i must say... hollowbodys sound even better for surf guitar than fenders.

  • Sounds as good as my 64 Gretsch!!Gotta look in to more old cheapies after I sell my Gretsch! SO COOL!

  • @bluesgroove2951 Thanks for reminding me to sell my Gretsch and by Kay/Harmony/etc. Rock on American vintage cheapies!!!

  • No, old wood sounds WARMER. "better" depends on what sound you like.

  • Very nice!

  • hey what a nice sound!!!!

what are the pick ups? seems like an early version of a p-13; could you please confirm? thanks!

    ciao!

  • This guitar is kinda expensive guys, guitar from the 60's have the best sound since the tree it made of is old,as it old,the sound better.

  • That's absolutely retarded and not true. My apologies for being so brash. I'm sure you're very intelligent but the aging of the wood doesn't make it "sound better." These guitars and all other older guitars sounded great when they were made. Jimi's strat hadn't been aging 50 years for him to get the incredible tone that he got, and people don't need to buy a guitar from the 40s, 50s, or 60s to get a sound from that era. It boils down to technique and equipment that is in the same ball park.

  • With advancements in research and technology we can build higher caliber guitars today than ever before! What many don't take into account the flaws of older instruments and the passion put into making them and doing by hand is what makes them so special. Everyone loves a good story and the history is what commands top dollar.

  • it is actually true. Old wood changes the sound slightly. But not in this kind of guitar. When the pickup is in a solid body guitar and is also picking up string vibration from the body itself it changes the sound slightly. Not enough to pick it out of a crowd though. Pickups age too and the magnets degauss. Put them together and you have a vintage sound. (from the guitar anyway) The aged wood and the degaussed magnets can be replicated. You do need proper gear, I agree 100%

  • what was the tune 1:30 and on? sounded a bit like green onions at the end pretty cool man

  • great playing, awesome guitar and an amazing beard man!

  • cool thanks for hiittin me back keep it up!

    D

  • wow this tunes a tear jerker. Whats the name of the first tune?

    Thnx'

    D

  • Thanks! I'm proud to say I came up with that one myself - it doesn't really have a name just yet - I may work on it a bit and make a song out of it. It's loosely based off a little guitar run in The Kinks' song, "Shangri-La" though, if you are looking for similar music.

  • @Goyokiki If you listen to J>lennon he wrote a great song with this chord progression.I cant think of it now,but its an early one.

  • Check out "No place to fall" by Townes Van Zandt. That's probably it.

  • @Goyokiki i know it's the guy's tune but the first few chords proper remind me of a slow version of kiss me haha

  • @Goyokiki The chords are also identical to a Harry Chapin song called, A Better Place to Be.

  • I have a Kay as well but mine's only got one f hole and it has three pick ups! Anyone know anything about it?

  • That looks like one solid piece of guitar, I have a hollowbody myself, but from my experiance even expensive hollowbody guitars can feel very empty and light, but this looks really solid!

  • I believe I have that exact guitar, with a pickguard. What would you think today's value is?

  • Preserve the silvertone legacy! Great playing, loved the songs you played.

  • played a similar one in a guitar store, they are surprisingly twangy for having one neck pickup.

  • The twangy-ness in this video may also be a result of my playing style....

Looks like I was playing pretty close to the bridge in this one.

But in general I think you are right, it wasn't that deep of a sound for a hollwbody. I even bust out some surf at 1:30 or so.

  • Cool guitar and nice sound....thanks for the post.

  • what kind of strings you have on that beauty?

  • No idea... they were pretty old.

It looked like they hadn't been changed in several years.

  • @terser What is the name of the second song you played?

  • I got an Old Kay Vintage for Christmas i feel very lucky i prefer it over my Fender Tele and my Takamine...

  • my friend has an old kay hollowbody with a single pickup and its kick ass

  • That does sound great! And man oh man....I love me some of those Cuties.
