i've been wanting to go back to ME1 and save the council just to see what happens in ME2, but after seeing this and seeing that they still treat you like shit i don't want to anymore, i'm glad i let the pricks die and you get offered your spectre status back if you let them die anyway. even after saving their lives they're still a bunch of stuck up c u next tuesdays. :/ fuk da council.

I think the ideal solution for Mass Effect 2 would have been capture the installation at the end and hand it to the council. This would provide the hard evidence they needed to take the threat seriously, Cerberus is rich but doesnt have the resources to field a battle fleet againt the reapers.

As far I can see saving the council is a good choice. the reason, if the alliance fleet hadn't save them the entire universe both Asari, Salarian and Turian would despise the human race even further considering how humans now makeup C-sec, the protection of Citidel and politics ME2. Plus when ME3 the Council would come to listen to your warning of the Reapers and organize an armada of ever military fleet.
