Great video, thanks for sharing. With repect to criticism about shooting the birds on the ground: these birds usully don't fly off when detected - they just scurry into the brush. A ground shot is all you have 90% of the time.

Where is the sport in shooting birds on the ground? Ground pounding birds is a terrible habit if you hunt with dogs. I hunt gouse with the aid of a dog and only shoot when birds are in the air. My success ratio may be lower than a ground pounder, but I get as much if not more enjoyment out of the hunt.

I shoot grouse on the ground, off a log, out of the air, off the road, off of a walking trail, in the thick sht, with or without a dog. Sporting shots when I'm with people who only shoot flushing birds. I don't care how people shoot grouse, but I would like to see more HI-Def flushing shots online. I might try to get one of those gun mount cameras and try it.

I just ended my 2011 grouse season in koochiching county and i shot all 10 of my birds on the ground. There is absolutly nothing wrong with that. Grouse are extreamly stupid and they just stand in the trail or in the woods and wait for you to shoot them. So before you people rip on these guys for 'ground poundin' them, do some research on grouse or better yet, go hunting yourself for one.

Waiting for grouse to fly increases the chance of a winged bird not being retrieved! Now what is more sportsman like? Leaving winged birds in the bush or taking them when you have the clearest shot?

I hate those guys who think it's illegal to shoot grouse on the ground......I grouse hunt in st.Louis county MN and we do really good most the birds we shoot are on the ground we just take what ever shot it gives us.... Nice video guys!

What you guys do is not hunting, although some euphemistically refer to it as "road hunting". You shoot them on the ground with shotguns. Why not be sporting and flush the birds before shooting. A fly grouse is much harder to shoot and gives the bird a sporting chance. If you just want meat for the pot then raise chickens you bastards, or at least use a .22 LR rifle, wasteful bastards! If you want meat for the pot why not raise chickens. In a few years there won't be any grouse left.

Call it what you but want it's all about being in the woods with friends and enjoying the hunt. We don't only "ground pound" birds. We shoot plenty out of the air just not on video. We take whatever shot the birds give us.

That surprises me because itasca is a northern county with birds. We are more in the northeast. Most important thing to look at is the cover and food sources. Do some research on what grouse like different times of the year and start there.
