Iron Maiden is like drinking craft brews, darker beer, home brews, etc. You like 1 or 2 different flavors sparingly or you indulge, full on, everything on the list. Not in one sitting though...
This is Nicko showing he can do the job in some band jam or other. He blew it out of the fucking park with Where Eagles Dare, but hey, this is my 2nd favourite Maiden B side ever.
No match to Jethro, this is not kind of song, that is well to go metal way. I liked though, i gues because this is great song remade by good band - worse, but they didn't kill Mary :D
This version is decent, but please don't try to put it above the original if you've never even heard Jethro Tull's version. The original is pretty "metal" itself.
@Sheltah The version of Locomotive Breath you have propably is from Helloween (Album:MEtal Jukebox) =... I am not familiar with any other "version" of Loc Breath... Excuse my poor english..
I would have been very disappointed if IM tried to do it Tull style. By the way, the vid heralded as Metallica playing Cross-eyed Mary is actually Iron Maiden playing it live. I have a brilliant hill-billie version of Locomotive Breath and it's certainly not Tull but it's so cool.
I use to own a very rare Piece of Mind cassette where this track was in the b side. It´s a pity someone borrowed it from me and never returned it... The cassette was an argentine EMI edition from middle 80´s.
i HATE when that happens, same thing happened to me when i lent ong bak and donnie yen's legend of the wolf to some one, they moved to nc and i never got my movies back (i finally bought new ones but still..)
This has been out since the mid 1980s You can get it on cd it was on the first ten years box set. 10 cds i think this was disc 5 anyway be prepared to pay its kinda pricey. Long out of print.
you'd be surprised at what is considered metal then apolyptica comes to mind they use cellos of all things and alot of swedish/norweigien bands use orchestras and isn't king diamond start out as an opera singer before he formed the legendary mercyful fate? i believe he was but i do agree that tull isn't metal as we know it, but hard rock, anyway as far as flutes in metal go, check out blind guardians album somewhere far beyond it's good stuff
Fantastical!
Been a Tull fan for ages . . had no idea the Maiden had covered this song til just now.
Yay!!

Having a widely known band like Maiden do one of your songs is the ultimate form of flattery and shows their respect for the original artist.

I don't believe that Maiden is trying to "remake" this song, rather "pay tribute" to a great song from a great band....

Metal music is coined from the sound of the guitars. Tull has some very metal songs, but it is not the majority of their work to be certain.
solararis 2 years ago
There's more to 'Tull than loud guitars,i.e FLUTE and keyboards...etc..

Tull is kind of metal.
jlhguitar 2 years ago
What? Tull is fucking flutes and mandolins. They're not metal.
Keegah 2 years ago
Folk and metal isnt such a contradiction actually.
But yeah Tull isnt metal.
PennyDreadful1 2 years ago
The flutes and mandolins is not what makes Tull less metal!
Its that light boppy rhythm and lack of throttle and heaviness.
PennyDreadful1 2 years ago
they dont rreallly use mandolins, idiot. led zeppelin does however and they are considered metal hahah
abarbar06 2 years ago
So - Korpiklaani, Turisas, Eluvetie, etc. are all metal bands that use non-Metal instruments.

Mmh a little hard rocky maybe with all the heavy blues rock influence.
Nah i wouldnt call Tull metal.
Though they were most probably influential on metal musicans in some way.
PennyDreadful1 2 years ago
Tull has their epic kinda metal moments at times.
