  • What a lovely surprise to listen to Navim singing his grandfather's song... Navim, you definitely posses your grandad's talent and you look like him! :-) It's a very nice song and video! Very enjoyable!

  • @Zinasoul Ah Zina!! Such a pleasure to hear from you. I've not noticed a likeness between us, but I've never really looked for any before. Thanks for the sweet comment. I always look forward to your encouraging words. I wish you a happy, sunny Sunday in Holland. Take care.

  • Broadcasting Happiness Nicely...love the pictures man, i love the old style feel you made musically, as it fits perfectly. Now thinking back with no music playing...Great singing, really good, amazing honestly, broadwayish navim49 old barish style.

  • @damondrydes Cheers amigo. I tried to give it an old style Broadway feel. Glad you picked up on that. You know your stuff.

  • This is really great Nav. I love all the background and all the care and reverence on display here. Great job with the song - it's retro cool. You are a class act my friend. A centurion would never give up ;-)

    Cheers

    Simon

  • @goreedy Simon, thank you. Retro cool... I like that!!! Lovely comment mate. 100 should be up in mid November. Your Simon bees are looking good.

  • Touching...and very well done...

  • @wooddragon45 Much appreciated buddy. Thank you.

  • Ah, it all becomes clear. Like losing keys, it's all in the genes!!! Nav as a crooner - great re-invention and truly touching imagery as well. Looking forward to the century but numbers are arbitrary, form is temporary, class is permanent and you have it through and through. As the classic Gabriel/Bush forward line once put it - Don't Give Up!!

  • @TheHawthorne2 Touching words my friends. Thank you. I tried to give the vocals a Raffa touch. It was hard to do. He makes it look effortless!!! The thought of Kate singing is mighty tempting but stopping at 100 seems right somehow.

  • This is truly special!! Your Grandfather would be proud I'm sure. :) Btw, I forgot to turn the clocks back last night. lol!

  • @drivermciver Sorry to hear about your clock problems Sean. It means you're going to be turning up early for all your Sunday appointments. What a nightmare!!!! Cheers buddy. Hope all is well with you and yours.

  • A lovely song Navim, the first day light savings time song I have ever heard. Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @carrolly2k You know me Jim. I've always got my finger on the pulse!!!! Bob Dylan will be doing a protest song om this very subject soon. You mark my words!!!!!!! Cheers buddy!!!!!!!!

  • very nice uplifting song and very nicely done

  • @bangaway Thanks man. Hope the band are rocking on. I must drop by and see what you've been up to.

  • Hi Nav wow musical talent sure runs in your family my friend that is a great song your Granddad wrote all those years ago and I agree with all he said that great wisdom in the song all as true now as it was back then my friend and Nav he sure would be proud of you great song and I loved seeing those old photographs and images that you used in the video and He sure would have been proud how excellently you performed his song great work buddy thank you from Phil .

  • @rockingphil58 Phil, thank you. They are wise words. It reminds me of the song covered by Sting called 'Spread a little Happiness'. It is a great sentiment. A smile never hurt anyone. A few kind words can only help to make a brighter day for those who receive them. It used to be the way in the work place. A little encouragement goes a long way to improving well being and loyalty. Nowadays it's about targets, competition and being ruthless. The Material World. Capitalism. Greed. I try to smile...

  • Abosutely lovely and touching! Thanks for sharing

  • @luisamac77 ola Luisa.

  • A joy that's shared is a joy that's doubled. Great melody. Great little song. Tender sweet and fun. Very cool. Loved it. The pics were a dynamite bonus. Too bad you never got a chance to know him. What a world.

  • @dunskie Hi Danny. Great to hear from you my good friend. I hope the move has gone well and you're settling down to a great existence wherever you may be. I remember the song being performed when I was a little fella in short pants. It is a great melody isn't it and it left an impression on me. The words still ring true today. Optimism has to be good medicine as long as politicians aren't selling it!!!

  • That`s great stuff Nav, you sound somewhat different, a little like David Essex me thinks in parts or should I say such a thing, now that`s a song that really does take a person back, even back past my time, well played and sung,P.

  • @tillyireland Hi Padraig. David Essex is fine with me. My wife is was a big fan. Lots of young girls were though weren't they. It was that twinkle he had in those baby blues! She says I'm not him but I'm not sure if she means this in a good way or not! Or if she's talking from a physical or musical perspective. Now see what you've started!! I shall have to have it out with here and a 'domestic' may follow!!!!!!

  • Very nice song Navim :)

And very nice of you doing this for your grandad.

I don't have mine already but i met them and i have good memories

    God Bless

  • @brainge Memories are precious my friend. Remembering them must make you happy. I like to think something of their spirit lives on in those who they leave behind. Thanks for your lovely comment Sting.

  • Wow, fabulous tune. You have a great sound. I like the images too. Very classic.

    Cheers to the "100"

  • @AshHaze27 Thank you my friend. I like to think it's an 'oldie' but a 'goodie' as we say this side of the pond.

  • This song is a wonderful trip to the 30's. And a wonderful tribute to your grandpa, too! I'm willing to say that the times were better back then....

    Very nice chord progression.

  • @Tidinrw Thanks Dirk. You're right about the chord progression my friend. Those who write the same song over over while relying on a video, OTT production and a few dance moves to sell their music today could learn a thing or two from a well crafted composition like this.

  • One of the best things I've heard on YouTube for ages.....Great song full of optimism..You've captured the 30's feel of the song very well and in every way.

Your Grandfather would have been proud of the job you've done on his song Navim...well done.....Regards...Dave

  • @A297MAN104 Ahhh... thanks Dave. I did try to give it a 30s feel and I hope he'd be happy with my efforts. The message works today as back then. We have to keep our chin up don't we? Cheers mate. I hope all is well with you and yours.

  • such a great song

I really really love it !

    france loves you my friend

  • @lejoliroi Loris thank you. France is a big country and I love France back. I am one man but my love is BIG!!

  • Wow! This is different. If this song as you have recorded it appeared in the 1930's it surely would have been a 'hit'. I love the whole concept of this project. You have made a brilliant job and a fitting tribute to your grandad. To resurrect this song must have been a touching but very satisfying task. You have performed it to perfection. The lyrics are very uplifting - I especially like the chorus. Very well done Navim, I really enjoyed this. I am totally with you on the winter blues issue.

  • @bobtulip48 Thanks Bob. I'm glad you are with me on the hour changing thing. We can all adapt to the seasons can't we? Get up, live a bit, go to sleep. How hard is it to go with nature? Give me a bit more afternoon light and I'm a happy bunny.

I'm touched you enjoyed the song. You'll have to coax Hollie and Matthew you into doing one of your numbers!!!

  • Nice vid Navim congrats & thumbs up

And regarding the footage? no worries, mine was terrible! so its cool, lol

    great vid this one though

    gus : ) ♪

  • @longlostgus No worries Gus. Thanks for the great comment. Cheers buddy.

  • very nice Navim!

    Well written sir!

  • @MrRiblet The writing is down to my Grandad. I think his song stands up well in 2011. We could all do with a bit of a happy vibe nowadays. You've got to give a little to take a little. I think that's the message. Smile and the world smiles with you. Cheers Mr R.

  • Great job Navim Beautiful work

  • @Sting575 You are very kind Sting. Thanks for commenting my friend.

  • @navim49 Your welcome

  • Excellent song Navim...your beautiful guitar work just helps the words flow along...well written and a very cool concept buddy...

  • @PatrickGMoran Thank you Pat. It was great to do.

  • Dig it.

    Danny

  • @TheWalrusWasDanny Cheers fella. I appreciate that.

  • Excellent, Navim! I really enjoyed this one. I live on the western edge of the time zone. We have very dark mornings here :) In August of this year I found out about some music in my ancestral blood. My grandfather and his brother immigrated to the states shortly after the turn of the 20th century. My great uncle was a musician who played in many places in Europe before he brought his instruments over here with him. I have a photo of him holding an unknown type of brass instrument.

  • @1catbob Please forgive my moan. It's an English thing. We love to complain about weather and related stuff.. Family history means a lot to me the older i get. Your European ancestor with the unknown brass instrument sounds like a lead worth pursuing!!

  • Very nice

  • @bettyfelon1 Thank you Betty. It's a bit left field but it felt good to do.

  • @navim49 Your left field songs are usually your best ones.

  • @navim49 Now do something from Nirvana. My birthday is coming up.

  • @bettyfelon1 Big ask. I'm stopping at 100. And it's all done bar the visuals. When's the big day?

  • @navim49 January 28..Aquarius, if you believe in things like that. I wish you wouldn't stop at 100, though. How can we change your mind?

  • @bettyfelon1 Er ......mmm. Loads of flattery!!! An end to war and famine? Seriously though. I just need to stop. It might only be for a while. I just dunno right now. Thanks for your kind words Betty. I'm a Capricorn by the way. 3rd January.

  • @navim49 I should have guessed you were a Capricorn. It fits. I suspect you're very cool in real life. PM me if you ever want to talk about whatever. I might even tell you my real name.

  • Excellent original, just great! I enjoyed listening very much!

  • @teteroom あなたがテテありがとうございます。あなたのコメントは非常に親切。

  • That's a really charming song Navim. Really like that man! Nice one :-)

  • @ibitron1 Cheers Ib. It was straight up. We are who we are 'cos those who came along before. Any musical blood back down the Ibitron line?

  • This is a splendid vid in all aspects. The song itself is superb - so many different attractive parts to mention - and then add to that the wonderful catalogue of a life and lives in photographs and memorabilia. Then ... I've got to say ... that your voice and guitar come across bang on and crystal clear. Your other stuff has always been spot on, but this is by far your best (in my humble opinion, Nav). Hurrah and keep broadcasting, mate.

ps I knew a vicar from Bray!

    pps Thumbs and big toes

  • @raffaport The vicar in Bray is intriguing! Unless it's a naughty limerick you happen to have learnt! Hmm... can't work out the rhyme though. I'm far too pure. I thought of you doing this. Seriously!! I have to say your vocal delivery shaped mine. My first comment on your You Tube musical gold was something about Peter Skellern. This is my closest. It's not you but I'm glad you liked it. I'm dead chuffed mate. Toes indeed!!! Cheers Raffa.

  • Hi. 'The Vicar of Bray'? ... ancient song (origins in the C17th, methinks) that we used to sing at school. Still relevant today - it's about opportunism. It's source is similar to 'In An English Country Garden' sung by many, including Rolf! I'll send you the link in a pm. Regards.

ps Keep 'em coming and .... get yourself a uke!

  • Nav, I guess talent is in your blood my friend as I read and heard in this great song that you brought to life again gotta love it and the photos. Love +Peace Lance

  • @lance4919 What a lovely comment. Cheers Lance. You Tube gives old songs a chance for a fresh ear. I think this song and it's sentiment is timeless. I'm glad I did it.

  • This is a great song, a cabaree style like your great grandad would certainly have liked to listen and perform. You have given a lot of your talent and good taste to make. Thank you for this!

  • @maggiesband You are very kind my friends. I'm sure it was a popular song with the Dublin show goers in the 30s. It was a privilege to do.

  • Really good song and video and sung in that old time style. Great stuff.

  • @michi12388 Ta Michael! I tried to give it a bit of the old time feel with the voice. Lots of annunciation!! No dropped 'atches' etc.

  • This is a great tribute, Navim!! Very interesting video with all these olod photographs. Thank you for sharing this, my friend!...Wolfgang

  • @FolkAndMore Danke Wolfang. I'd never have considered performing this if not for the platform You Tube provides. It was good to try something from an era way back when. I enjoyed doing it.

  • Beautiful composition and tribute. Very well played and sung. Excellent work, mate!! (Still waiting for your #100)

  • @MrWaywayfarer Thanks Mr W. Your comment is very kind. I owe you a visit amigo. Put the kettle on I'll be over soon. 100 looks set to be mid November. it's slow going!!!

  • A brilliant song written by good taste. My receipt against the DST and along with it, is smile. When you step out for your work trip and the sleet blows against your face in the darkness after the clocks turned, then at this silly moment its better to give a wide smile and feel good than feel DST Daylight Saving Trauma and grin around the city.

  • @arvidmr Your advice is most welcome Arvid. It is the best remedy You are very wise. I seem to have become more grumpy as I have got older! Thanks for listening.

  • What a brilliant tribute. The auld yin would be proud.

  • @alvee33 Cheers Al. I hope he's smiling down and not grimacing in celestial pain!

  • wow!! That was a great song, performed perfectly to some fantastic pictures!!! Bravo my friend, bravo!!!

  • @classican Thanks Pete. The pictures are amazing. It was a privilege to be able to use them. So much has changed but the joy and inspiration music brings is still the same. Happy weekend my friend.
