I really like Teacher's. I never really had any whisky(very little). Recently bought a bottle of Teacher's for its low price. Now I want to try more whisky because of it.
HI! Very interesting and informative especially to a neophyte whisky drinker like myself.. I do house sales and cleanouts, and I just came across a wooden case of 12 Teacher's Highland Cream 4/5q bottles sealed; any takers? What do you think the value per bottle would be.. from the late 50s early 60s I think. Thank you! -vP
Fior budget hunters - this is the one that falls into my Price/Quality ratio. Ultimately, we also have to understand what characteristics / styles we are looking for...just like they say people drink champagne from selected house styles...
Universally it seems Teacher's is considered not to be bad. I must agree it has a lot of taste to it. But when I try a brand such as Grants, Grants is so much easier to drink. But Grants I think is almost univerally considered much worse. I do not know why. Perhaps my taste is not as refined. But teachers is one of the hardest scotch blends to swallow.
Allow me to comment based on my shallow knowledge. Grants is based on Glenfiddich and Glenfiddich's malts are one of the lowest in quality as far as I concerned. It's light, simple and somewhat tasteless. Teacher's in generally use more complex style malt to mix in with grain whiskies. This adds more dimensions/complexities in the blend. For those who are not keen on peaty style drinks, they might feel the harshness in the drink.
i'm new to enjoying whiskey and picked up a bottle of this from the great reviews it has gotten for a blended whiskey. i also didn't enjoy it too much. i don't think my pallet is refined enough to appreciate this. can you recommend something for a new comer??
hey I have a question eating away at me, im new to whisky and I've only tried Glenlivet 12, Bailie Nicol Jarvie, Jameson, JWBL & Chivas, so:
It seems to me that blended whiskys have A LOT less distinctive character? After trying Glenlivet, it seems that I would easily recognize the taste and wouldn't confuse it with anything else
But after trying those blended ones like BNJ, JWBL and Chivas, it seems like they're a lot more similar to eachother and have less distinctive notes?
oban 14yr is fantastic. the McCallan 12 yr is a bargain. but I am currently drinking a bottle of The famous grouse gold reserve 12 year. Let me just say that this is by far the best dollar for dollar scoth that I have ever had! the big bottle, 1 litre for 19.99 U.S. just delicious! Find it buy it. you will love it!
It is Nice blended whiskey But I still consider that Grant's has better texture then teachers. Teacher also have oily texture with Ice. But still not a bad whiskey though. Rightly as you said single malt and blended should have alternative days to drink.
Nice to see someone taste an affordable blended Scotch. I've enjoyed watching your tastings. Have you tried any of the ~$20 McClelland's single malts? They're really quite nice for the price. They're NAS but I would guess they're maybe 5 yo? I'd like to see you taste The Famous Grouse and Oban 14yo in the future. Thanks!
I had all the names you mentioned in the past - there are different McClellands and they are, as you say, good for the price range. I used to live on the Famous Grouse when I was a poor student! Oban 14 is a classic - need to get hold of a bottle soon from Alberta (40% cheaper because of tax).
Yes, Oban 14 is indeed a classic. One of my favorites. Not really a typical Highland scotch in my opinion. Thanks for your whisky tastings. Please do more!
Love your reviews! You have taught me so much. I've been looking for Teacher's locally but having a bit of a hard time finding it. Anyway, thanks for all your wonderful insight. By the way, that video of you and your son doing the beer review was priceless!
I am a whiskey noobie - maybe 10 months or so. I recently finished a bottle of this and I thought it was really good. I'd put it behind JWB and way ahead of the Red. I just opened a Macallan 10y fine oak.
Cheers for the review, theres very little information about this one despite its popularity. Im not the most expert of tasters but it does seem like a quality every-day whisky :-)
My sister bought me some Teachers for xmas. I wasn't really expecting too much, but it really is quite impressive. Perhaps I assumed too little of blends, but the quality of this really surprised me.
Exactly! An analogy - many 'cheap' wines are superb quality everyday drinking/quaffing wines...sadly many cheap wines are inferior tasteless jugs. We just have to do research. Blended whisk(e)y represents the essence of true everyday drinks. It's the Philharmonic Orchestra as to the solo musicians (Single malts)...
Tried this just recently. Nose has strong leather, hints of caramel-like sweetness and a touch of apple, it is fairly complex and changes as the whisky sits exposed to the air. The Whisky has an oily texture, Leather, tobacco, smoke and a sweetness. Far more tastes than I am able to catagorise. A very very nice whisky though.
I must make point to retaste to see if I detect leather, tobacco and smoke. I think what you are talking about is really the peat / peat smoke from the malted barley. Interesting description. Thanks for watching my 'wee' videos!

Also, does anyone have any opinions on Bailie Nicol Jarvie? How would you compare it to Teacher's? (I never tried teachers)
For my next bottle, I'm looking to buy something like Macallan Fine Oak or Glenfiddich or something like that. Any suggestions?
Thank you

I think teacher's is probably one of the best blended scotchs out there which is reasonably priced.

Great whisky, but it is a lot better if u mix it like this:
Whisky Ammaretto (aka godfather):
1 part dissaronno orginale (maybe a bit more but not too much as the drink can become to syrupy)
2 parts teachers
Put it in a drinking glass with 3 ice cubes stir it a bit (you could use a theespoon). Enjoy.
