@1993osku , I drove it occasionally for 5 years, now is in my box with faulty electronic fuel injection. All old cars are fragile, and a Saab 900 is fragile in clutch, gearbox, cv joints and you should prefer a carburetted car, or one with a good working mechanical fuel injection (complex to fix and adjust).
@aviatorsbh, yes, I often do double clutching shifting up to better reduce friction and wear of syncronizator and if you find the rigt moment shifting is not hard.
I've had four classic 900 Turbos in the last five years. The '85 is easily my favorite. Something about the computer in that model year (first of the 16 valve engines) seems to make it drive with more zing.

i like the newer saabs better =) i had a 99 9-3 i got in2 lots of races i lovd it...till i was goin 70mph n i hit a deer.....but idc ne more im getin another....o yea it went aleast 137mph
I got a saab 900 turbo convertibale that runs like a dream. Ive won too many races including beating a lexus the other day. Something is wrong with the turbo but with it fixed it will run even better.
Trannys wear is a known problem on Saab 900. My car seem not suffer from but I try to use it carefully. 10 years a go I had a 1984 900 T8 with a heav wear on final drive.
Yeah, that does work ok when new; however, as they age the idler shaft and reverse gear become slightly misaligned and they will hit. I'm only saying becuase I had to rebuild a gearbox in my 89' 900 that had a bad reverse gear. $3,000.
That looks like a real nice car however, you gearbox engagement looks smooth and crisp. You also understand the importance of the pause when changing the gears.
The transmission are quite notchy when they get older. I find that the best way to select reverse when the car has idled in neutral with the clutch engaged is to depress the clutch, select a forward gear (usually first) then select reverse. If reverse is stubborn even after doing this, slightly engage the clutch as you select reverse. Works seemlessly 99% of the time.
You cn't do this on all cras. If the allignment of the box it not really good it will still grind. I can do this in my low mileage convertible but in my 300,000 combi I had it was impossible without selecting a forward gear.
I also find that double declutching on both down and upshifts helps when the car is cold and rev-matching downshifts will increase longevity. Keep rockin' the Saabs boys!
how long you have driven this Saab? Have you been happy with this car?

how much this car consumes?
1993osku 1 year ago
@1993osku , 10 km per liter. The 8 valve models do 9 km per liter.

M.Y. '85 - does this mean the model year of your camera? Becoz so it would appear.

Do you also double-clutch when shifting up? It looks so...
Is the gearbox hard to shift else?

Very nice and inpiirationally filmed!

You shouldn't change from reverse to first gear so quick otherwise the transmission can brake down.
B7LA 2 years ago
wrong. The transmission can break down if you do it the other way around. (If you change from 1st to reverse to quick).

ahhh, select a 1st gear before selecting reverse, you going to blow up the tranny. That grind made me scream!
tomsaab 4 years ago
Normally I wait few seconds between clutching and selecting rev, so stops the gear shaft.

If you actually select 1st before reverse you can just slam in reverse, won't make a noise.
