I have had an online run in or two with and continue to have fundamental core differences with Mr David Andrews (and will most likely continue to),
nonetheless, howevre and maybe perhaps even especially because of this
its very good to see this video.
For these four minutes and thirty-four seconds I see a side of this person, David Andrews, that has been otherwise not shown/I have not seen before, and it is good to see.
The song and music are also really very good too.
David, Paul, too. I am a musician/singer/songwriter. I am also on the spectrum; I have Aspergers. 3 songs for autism awareness. Many of my songs reflect concern for healthcare crisis here in USA. Please search "Hai Knapp" find video Viva La Companie.
your animation reminds me of rebirth.....travelling through the uterus...i think there is a sense of rebirth in your song...its lovely, a lovely song. i'm glad i hard it :)
We will let society hold their mediorrity precious but we will not be the guage by which society defines it's own importance. We have been forced to painful consciousness through our otherness and despite all that has been done to us we will still achieve. We will be artists and scientists and businesspeople.
We will look back in society's eyes and our eyes will have consciousness, creativity, intelligence and far more humanity than was served to us.
"I agree with Paul's statement on our achievements."
Thank you, David. And I appreciate your use of our, because even though we share some of the politics of difference, I am not autistic. So the question becomes: Via which community am I being included with you. Would that be the community of "disability" or the community of "humanity".
I know which I would choose. And then, since we all belong to the human community every person's achievements stand alone and have intrinsic value.
I'm the filmmaker. David Andrew's is autistic. His attributes are apparent. To discuss his deficits would be wrong. So I will talk about me.
I had a serious head injury. I still suffer from motor and verbal problems, but I don't wear a t-shirt saying that. I have 3 university degrees, have traveled all over the world, am a filmmaker and a musician. Do I still suffer from brain damage. Yes. Am I disabled???!?!?
Our achievements are alone, not "in spite of" any problems we may have.
The song, and David, remind me a bit of Dave Van Ronk. Very Nice animation!

Yep.
I'm the guy in the video, and I'm autistic. I'm also an educational psychologist, and a father too. My daughter is autistic, as well.
I agree with Paul's statement on our achievements.

Why has this one been added to the STF festival? Does this man have or (involved with the community of) disability?

David Andrews, the musician, has autism. "This video is about the ability of a human being, not the disability of an autistic man."
