Are there any good public viewing places of the Canal near St Catherine's? What times of day and days of the week have most traffic? I would love to videotape ships going by if and when I have the chance.
@SantaFe19484 Many tourists go to the lock 3 to watch the boat, that's where is the canal museum. Between lock 1 and 2 is good, easy access for pedestrian and without fence. Boat come and go to the canal at anytime of the day or night, check the seaway website for ship position and eta.
I remember a fascinating trip on a Tug & Barge-Unit (RELIANCE&PML9000) from Sault Ste. Marie to Hamilton through the Welland Canal in 2004. A remarkable experience. Unforgettable!
Wonderful to see the Route again on Video. Thank you very much for this posting!
Beautiful video. My dad was the Lockmaster for Lock 8, the first lock the ship went through. I used to play there as kid, and watch all of the ships going through. This is a video that has brought back a lot of good memories. Thanks.
@Zaint the screaming tunnel is in niagara falls on warner rd. beetween garner rd. and the Q.E.W and yes the blue ghost tunnel is by the GM plant its a beauitful place people think its haunted but i actually have balls lol I was able to walk till it got to 1 ft of water then we headed back
It took me a while to find this treasure of a video. I'm curious if there are any videos from a bridgemaster before the automation. I wanted to sail myself but decided family was more important. I hope one day ShipSimulator will allow me to give it a try. This video is awesome!
Fantastic. brings back memories of trip i did up there in 1971 from Germany to Chicago on British bulk carrier Bel-Hudson. Great scenery and unbelievable going through the locks.

What is that arm at the locks near the gates that goes down and then up?
JetMechMA 4 months ago
@JetMechMA It lowers an heavy wire that will hopefully stop the ship if the ship fails to stop.

I used to work at Maple Leaf Mills in Port, and on "The Boats" with Upper Lakes Shipping. My dad worked at the Robin Hood flour mills. Memories..

has anyone heard of the blue ghost tunnel
theedit123 1 year ago
@theedit123
The half sunken tunnel behind the GM plant
The tunnel beside the flooded graveyard
The tunnel where a train crashed inside of it
The tunnel which runs into the (3rd) old canal
No! what tunnel are you speaking of? The screaming tunnel?

@theedit12
I know where it is (made that point by describing the area around it)
I also know where the screaming tunnel is (if he wants to talk about haunted places)
My first time there we didn't have flashlights so we walked the tunnel by touch
(don't do this as some of the beams have started to sag in places and people have begun hanging fishing line with hooks on them)
I wish that St. Catharines town hall would fix up the area and try and stop the tunnel from collapsing (stupid brick wall)

I think thats the Cuyahoga passing by at 2:30

I think it's either the Cuyahoga or the Mississaugi at 2:30... Which one fly's the flag "Don't give up the ship" over the wheelhouse?
CanadianWorkDivers 2 years ago
@CanadianWorkDivers , well, at the speed its going, its hard to say but, to me it looks like the Cuyahoga
