  • Well that's all you can hear on a pc but 10x louder

  • Don't use snow leopard and it wont purr

  • Tomorrow my iMac 20" Early 2009 is going back to repair for the 3th time, exact same problem as uploader has. My iMac still has warranty, but I don't understand why it's so difficult to replace a fan.

  • Haha I just tilted my iMac to see if it would happen.

  • the mac starts to sneez

  • Have u done anything to get rid of this noise? coz i have the same problem in my 21.5 inch imac.

  • just phoned apple....

    -turn off your computer

-unplug the power cord and anything else plugged in

-hold down the power button for ten seconds

    -plug everything back in

-hold down cmd, alt, P and R and turn on your system still holding the keys down until it makes the start up noise for the SECOND time then release

worked perfectly for me. it basically resets the power levels on everything including the fans and the problem was that one fan was receiving too much power.

  • @wilfredspeller its really helps, thank you very much. my imac stop singing strange van voice anymore...

  • @wilfredspeller I have this issue - does this work?

  • I had the same problem, and the answer to it was really simple. The desk that I had my mac placed on wasn't completely flat, it had a slight bow in it due to a heavy emac being on it for 4 years. I brought my imac up to the kitchen table and the noise disappeared, I brought it back to my computer desk and it started making noises again. I even placed it on other flat surfaces in the house...guess what...no noise!!! Strange but true!

  • I have the same problem with me 21,5 inch. But I don't care =)

  • same here

  • Annoying noise isn't it, mine does this from time-to-time. I thought it may be clogged with dust. Does anyone know how to clean the fan?

  • Hi i have a similar issue on my 27 imac this ticking noise i sent it to apple to repair they said that its normal. but they replaced the fans it still makes a faint tick now and then

  • uh oh spaghetti oh!

  • probably the fan is hitting something inside the case, I think that rebooting the mac will not help, try to clean it an then retry.

  • (1) Update your software - Apple Menu (upper left hand icon on the main screen - second item on this menu "Software Update".

    (2) Shut down the mac completely and wait 1 minute with EVERYTHING unplugged.

    (3) Plug the accessories (e.g. keyboard, mouse, whatever) back into the Mac

    (4) Plug in the Power Cord

    (5) Turn the Mac back on

    (6) If this works, please copy and paste this message back at the top of the comments for others.

  • rkuentertainment, not all mac do, the slot loader imac g3 didnt have one, it was air cooled

  • none of mine have had fan issues ever.

and it is the same with any brand a few from every batch have issues, its just apple has a smaller range of computers which means that you hear about it more

  • I have hardly ever heard the fan on my aluminium macbook! Only when i play something like sims does it come on!

  • i have that problem with the optical drive fan. I've put a new fan (official apple), and the noise is still here. I have no idea of what it is.

  • yeah i think i've got that problem too when im ripping cd's to itunes makes a hell of a lot of noise!

  • Mine is doing that, but not as bad.

  • Mine too..... but not as bad as in this video ....u going to take urs in?

  • I was looking into it, but it stopped after about a week or 2, others have said after a while it stopped for them also

  • yeah that was me, but for some reason it was signed into someone elses account

  • jo nie kumom

  • mine was doing the same thing until i took it apart and i found that there was a wire barely touching the fan so i fixed that and it wwas perfect again.

  • Good call. I think hes right.

  • u just put the mic by the speakers

  • Its a fan vent as well!

  • fan blades are rubbing against heat sink

  • You might have to go to a store that fixes macs and get them to clean your fan.

  • maybe you should bring it back or send it back to where you bought it and get it repaired or replaced

  • That noise could also be the hard disk, my friend's laptop also made a noise like that just before it's hard disk stopped working.

  • It sounds as if the blades of the fan are rubbing against the rim of the fan, not good, the fan may need to be replaced.

  • Hmm my imac never has had that problem and i bought it late feb. of 2008!

  • mine makes it 10x louder and i got it late nov 2007

  • I bought my 24" intel iMac, mid Feb. and had the same exact noise coming from my CPU fan. I downloaded and installed smc FanControl and messed around with the fan(s) speeds hoping to overwork? the fan. Thought that might help. About 2 weeks into the ticking i started it up and the ticking was so dang loud i thought my mac was going to fly apart. Like a model airplane type of loud. After that, zip!? Quiet as whisper. Odd. So far so good.

  • You're kidding, right?

  • after 2 weeks it stopped being loud .. now it works perfect

  • shut the fuck up

  • it is because camera mic isn't so sensitive as human ear

  • take it back man, they shouldnt do that!

  • i am waiting for shop to have a new, so if iSpot will have a new specimen they will switch me to a new one

  • I hear it. drrd drrd drrd drrd. at least mine doesn't do that! yikes. At least your warranty should still be there for you.

  • couldnt hear a thing :P

  • so make your speakers lauder :D there is fan noise
