  • Had I been working for Elvis when Bobby Darin died -- I would have told Elvis to pay tribute to his friend with this blues track written by Bobby himself. Wow...what a great, great bluesy song and Elvis would have done Bobby justice too. Darin is just so incredible. Mix Sinatra in with a Presley shake well for a minute and out pours something called Bobby Darin. Drink slowly and enjoy. Mmmmm

  • Bobby obviously was listenin' to Jimmy Reed, another of my favorites. The respect he showed for blues and soul music was unmatched among other pop artists of his time.

  • i cam across this video by accident (was looking for a new band singing a song named this) and i'm SO glad i came across this, i love it! :D

  • WOW, what a great performance. The obsession is getting worse--can't stop watching and listening to him--what an entertainer. In my humble opinion, it's him and Judy--that are at the very top of the list!!!!!

  • He has done it again....made me fall in love with his work all over AGAIN! He can do the blues with the best of them! Thank you for the time you take to provide his fans with great listening pleasures and the information about him that you share! LOVE HIM!

  • And he really was feeling awful on that night from the rest of the footage (The Girl Who Stood Beside Me). That's my guy!

  • Can't do the pony, can't do the jerk, can't watusi, too much like work...............but oh my the boy can siiiiiiiiiiiing!!!!

    Rock on Bobby!

  • Geez - I didn't know he wrote this! I thought it was some St. Louis thing from the 30s. He blows me away.

  • Yes it was released in 1965.

  • Oh and that part about can't do the pony or the jerk......guy was a great dancer, he could do it all!

  • Bobby will get the GRAMMY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD ON Jan 30, 2010! Bobby was a true legend.

RIP Bobby : He passed away 36 years ago today December 20, 1973.

  • My oh my, I do believe rhythm and blues was Bobby's best venue of all. I do love the big band stuff but nobody could touch him when it comes to this soul stuff! He just sang his heart out no doubt about it. He used to go to the Apollo theater alot, he really appreciated this music.

    Hot stuff!!!

  • Bobby Darin was so versitile.

Bobby could do standards, pop, rock, blues, R&B, folk, country, Jazz, you name it.

Bobby was exploding with intelligence and talent. He left us so much, considering his short time on earth , 37 years.

  • @HickoryRose THat's the secret - he knew he had little time, so he had to work faster & harder!

  • What a great performance -Great song. Thanks for posting.

  • Well met!

  • This is my first time seeing this video or hearing Bobby do this song. Wow! Makes me love him even more!!!!!!

  • It is "FUNNY WHAT LOVE CAN DO"! But this was at a time when Bobby`s love life was falling apart....bluesy songs like this made him feel good !! Watch his face, yeah ! dh

  • wow! one of my all time fave bobby songs! thank you sooo much for posting this!

  • One of my all-time favorite Bobby songs. He was the greatest!

  • This is so great ... loved the little comedy at the beginning ... then, the wonderful song ... Bobby loved the blues. He is always so considerate of a solo musician, and calls the audiene attention, in this case, he reminded them twice. Wonderful song by Bobby Darin. Thank you.

  • This video was just great. Loved the little comedy before the song, and he poured his heart and soul into that song. Always notice how Darin gives credit to any solo musicians..this time the crowd did not respons on the first mention of "Jim Sullivan", so he repeated the tribute.

  • LOVE Bobby and love this song! THANKS for posting this.

  • I have been priviledged to talk to a couple of musicians who knew and/or played with Bobby, and they both talked about how much he loved rhythm and blues. They said that when he was just sitting around playing something for himself that more often than not it was an R&B song. I think his love of the blues really comes out here in this clip.

  • And don't forget Bobby wrote this too!! One of my faves.

  • You're right! I forgot to mention that. He always wrote such great lyrics. I love the refrain: "Can't do the pony. Can't do the jerk. Can't watoosi. Too much like work."

  • @lildoozcoop yep! bobby wrote it & rocked it!:)

  • wow what a performance!! Bobby was so talented. Such an amazing man who was gone way too soon. love it thanks for posting.
