i myself am no expert but for me side control is great for kimuras if you can get the hang of swinging your leg up over their head quickly enough... i think ilya also demonstrates the ezekiel being done from side control although i would say it's dangerous unless you can find a way to maintain control of the rest of your opponent's body...

yes although it's kind of awkward and relies more on pressure to the adam's apple and so could be perceived as illegal in some competitions... i was stopped from doing it once that way for example

In Japanese the choke is called Sode Guruma Jime, or sleeve wheel choke in English. It's a dandy little choke, as long as you have long sleeves.

if done correctly, the choke puts an enormous amount of pressure on the blood vessels on either side of the neck. i experienced the power of this choke firsthand when, after applying it to my opponent in a recent competition (from his guard!), the opponent failed to tap and quickly passed out. if done incorrectly, it is a trachea choke, and an ineffective one at that.

Lots of people have talked trash about this choke and BJJ instructors don't teach it often but I think the real reason why this choke is not used more often is that its very dangerous, you press on someone's trachea and...its bad :)

it's true that if done incorrectly, the pressure wil mostly be that of the forearm on the trachea. for this reason, the move is generally tabooed without a gi / sleeves. if done correctly however, it puts an enormous amount of pressure on the arteries on the side of the neck.

I'm not disrespecting or know the standards to any of your guys BJJ level, but if I had the guy in my guard and he did that I'd take his arm home with me. I've tapped guys out with this without using sleeves. One arm goes behind the head, the other arm goes across the throat, fist goes into the guys throat, and you grab your arm at the elbow with the arm that is behind the head. Then lean your weight on your chest(which is on your fist), forcing your fist into the guys throat. Forearm compresses artery

Ezekiel is also called a fist choke. Depending on position of the opponent, this can be either blood choke or block the airway.

Yeah, to the right where there are more videos related to this one, watch the one with Erik Paulson. He explains and shows how to do it. You basically do it just like a regular ezkl with a gi, but you wrap your hand around your arm instead of grab your sleeve.

You can throw this choke from all over the place (from someone's back for instance), it's not exclusively reserved for the mount. I do agree that it's a lower level choke that you typically teach white belts, but I think that's to expose them to the choke itself, not to establish the mount as the only position from which to perform it.

it is possible to use this choke with no gi, although it is slightly more difficult to maintain a firm grip. still very useful with no gi. another similar option is a knuckle choke which can be very effective especially from mount

Feed your right arm under his neck and grab your left upper forearm.Your left wrist should now be across his throat.Now lean down on your fist with your head or chest. Its a sweet move.

@wondeboy12 you need to use the sleeve itself on the opposite side to choke, so dont give slack on the hand thats holding the sleeve, with the no gi submission, your arms will for a V shape, to apply the pressure correctly, you need to line the V up with the guys chin

right, honestly this choke works the best when you mount the guy, other then that, any good BJJ player could fight his way out fairly easily.

and larry is right, if you're in someone's guard and just try this little white belt shit you leave both arms open for omoplatas and armbars, triangles, anything.

but I have hit this move and been choked by it, only in mount though, this guy is just being silly in this video. and if you notice he's only doing it on white belts.

although i recognize that there's danger in doing this or any move while in someone's guard, the idea is to asphyxiate the person to such a degree where that's all they can think about. it's had that effect for me in competition (yes, from the guard)

Basicly, not everyone is as good at it as the guy in the video, and if you go and expect to just simply choke someone with it in a tournament then you got a long night ahead of you. But I have been in this choke and if the guy has a good squeese it's a nasty move, not hard to pull your head out of it though. Just push against the forearm under your neck and get your chin out and you're all good, and the other guy probably gasses himself trying it.

I learned this choke from the master himself Fabio Leopoldo, he used this technique when he won the worlds in 2001 or 2002, he came up from Bara to Marcelo Olivera's School and showed me the correct way to do this choke!
