  • Considering how heavily the internet relies on flash players now I'm shocked Adobe hasn't done anything about it yet. It's really irritating.

  • i have the same problem, it's unbearable.. OS 10.4, macbook 2006 w/ 2 gb RAM... just upgraded to flash 10 and performance is TERRIBLE. never had this problem before upgrading to flash 10

  • Another partial fix is to switch the bit or sample rate of your audio driver in Audio MIDI Setup.

  • I have the exact same situation on my late 2006 macbook, 2ghz core 2 duo with 1gb of ram.

I agree the problem seemed to have gotten worse since Leopard. Before Leopard I had never experienced these problems.

Flash video is awful and almost always seems to eat up 100% of my processor. I was going to upgrade the RAM to 2gb, hoping to free up the processor a little.

  • I have found what can be a temporary fix. Oddly, if you have external speakers plugged in to the audio port, unplugging them and then plugging them back in can fix the problem. Though sometimes it only takes a second before the problem is back

  • Yeah, I've been testing it a bit - if you use an external sound card, it seems that the problem is lessened. Either way, the issue stems from adobe not coding flash efficiently on OS X. When your processor usage goes into 120%, the heat causes the stuttering. There's no way to get around it, sadly, because the plugin is so inefficient.

  • i have the same issue and also found that i can "solve" the same way. i'm having the problems with youtube videos, netflix instant streaming, and any streaming videos from nbc, abc, etc... such a drag. i think it's an issue with the macbooks, unfortunately. apple has been very unhelpful.

  • and besides the fact that the Flash Player on Mac OS X very often gives you a stuttering picture the process takes up 100-130% of the CPU usage and thus makes your Laptop get really hot. I can't believe this problem is out for years and not fixed yet.

Come on Adobe, you do have the means to put your time and energy on fixing this!

  • Adobe says they're working on it, but I seriously doubt it at this point; it's likely to always be an issue. If you have a mac with lots of RAM (4 gigs), you'll be ok. However, if you have one running only 2 gigs, you're likely to be SOL.
