If I would be you I would go for the HD4870, because of the better performance. The difference between 1GB and 512MB of memory is minimal, so it would be wise to get the HD4870 IMO.

I'd say you go for the HD4870, it's has a faster memory and graphics clock speed, faster more powerful RAM and is just generally the better card.

512MB of GDDR5 memory which the 4870 comes with is more than enough for graphics intensive games, just make sure you have at least a 450W Power Supply Unit.

What the hell? I max this game out at 1440x900 on an Intel E5200 (OC to 3GHZ) and an HD 4850 with 2GB of 1000MHZ dual channel memory. I get about 55FPS. There must be something going wrong here with your system, bro. Although that doesn't account for your MB, hard disk and powersupply...

4850 is an awesome card, running GRID with 12xAA, 16xAF @ 1680x1050 and i get 50-60 frames. Its no wonder if came free with my videocard ;)
