White made the 6-200A Super Mustang engine for the White Model 906-4F. It was a gasoline engine ( 6 cylinder) with 400 cubic inch capacity producing 182 bhp. That's what the name 'Mustang' eluded too.
Very nice truck my friend. this brings back memories. i had learned to drive a big truck in one like this ( practice runs in a yard and short road runs)
Do any "Ol Timer" remember a White Mustang. When I was a babe I remember an old White that sat behind one of the shops my Daddy worked at. It had big "butterfly" front fenders and a very narrow grille. I remember it had a rearing horse and the word mustang on either side of the body. I have not been able to even find a reference as to White making a Mustang model. I thought that was the most beautiful truck, blemishes and all. I would love to restore one and use it to go get a Slurpy from 7-11.
@heatherrose2006 I used to drive a White Mustang. It was turned into a yard horse. We moved trailers in the yard with it. It had a gas engine and 5 speed trans with 2 speed rear end. Pretty good old truck.
Hey heatherrose2006, i understand what you're saying. It depends on the driver, and the truck they use, but most trucks these days have adjustable steering for the comfort of the driver. so they're taking the individule into account when they design newer trucks
Love that truck. For all those who are new to ATHS, roads like the one seen in this video was all that was available when trucks like this one were new. I even regocnize the door. The window in it was found on White, Internatinoal, and Mack.
White was built by White Motor Company. Freightliner was built by Freightliner Corporation. They had a marketing arrangement with White to sell and service their trucks. That ended about 1977. Freightliner was bought by Daimler and White was bought by Volvo.
was'nt the white part of the freightliner division my grandpa used to drive a old cabover that said white freightliner on it it had the old 290 cummins he always refered them as the ol shinney 290 motors nice sounding truck man
man looks like the inside of the goblin truck from maximum overdrive...that was a WHITE-WESTERN STAR not an pete , not a KW!!! nice truck tho good to see it still runs!
Sweet,I never tire of listening to this. Love the sound. They don't sound like this anymore (I know modern engines are superior, but don't have a distinct sound!)
How difficult is it to find parts for that truck? I'm looking into buying a 1956 White 4000 (maybe 5000, I'm not sure of the model yet) and it needs new doors, a new hood, and a windshield. Any links to places that sell parts?
SWEET Truck! Thanks for sharing it. Hearing and seeing this brought back fond memories. I used to drive one similar to yours until I jack-knifed it in the freezing rain on 23Dec84. It was a former Lombard Bros tractor from Waterbury, CT.
Nice rig. I saw exterior shots on the MSN White Trucks group. The one I drove was similar but a different year. Thanks again. Havea blessed day Fellow Earth Traveler!

10-speed..love to see the peg/pull buttons on the sticks, those old 10-sp.ones, or maybe it's 5 speed trans. 2 speed rear.

I first truck I ever drove was my Daddy's '65
White Frieghtliner cabover when I was 10
years old. I had to sit on the edge of the seat
(practically standing up) to be able to reach
the pedals. I literally had to brace my feet
on the fire wall to turn the wheel.

The '59 White was a good truck. Had family that drove them.

Check my other videos. I have a video on my '57 WC 22 that is like the truck you're thinking of. You can buy the Mustang hood ornament on ebay.

Why not an ISX 600?

80% of the drivers today wouldn't fit behind that steering wheel.
heatherrose2006 2 years ago
Maybe, maybe not, you never know.
greywolf45 2 years ago
I mean they wouldn't physically fit
behind that wheel not metaphorically
filling the past generations shoes.

Grey Wolf: I was talking about this specific
truck but If you were to sit in a truckstop
restaurant and watch the buffet, it will make
you wonder how some of them can fit through
the door, never mind behind the wheel, no
matter how adjustable it is. 80% might have been a bit of an exaggeration. = )

Sorry, I see what you mean now. You'll have to excuse me, i've been having one hell of a week (long story).

how does the shift pattern go and do u double clutch
dubcloc1993 2 years ago
It is a 10 speed, probably a "Road Ranger".
A 5 speed pattern, 1st is down and to the left,
reverse is up and to the left. After he backed
out he started off in 2nd. He isn't using the clutch
except to start out and to stop. Neither do I.
Daddy would swat me if he saw me put my foot
on the clutch for other than stopping or starting.
heatherrose2006 2 years ago
Most truck and bus line operators in 40s-60s would do the opposite, i.e., fire the heckoutta anyone found NOT using a clutch.:)

My Daddy learned in the '60's and he taught me in the 70's. :-D

Keep the NH220, you don't hear naturaly aspirated engines very much anymore. I think this one has a back drop exahust manifold..
greeniron32 3 years ago 4
Until it breaks down anyways. In the early '90's I
was quoted $900 for a set of injectors for my 220.
