The black pipulation voted 90% republican untill FDR started the modern welfare state. The black population had(due to slavery and bigorty) never developed a merchant class and as such were almost exclusivly low skill/low pay labor. When the Dems took tammany hall style politics(giving handouts for votes) to the south the poor blacks switched parties

@incrowdcynic Durring From the 50's on the Democrats continued to offer more and more handouts(welfare,affirmitive action etc) to not only the blacks but every other group in a attempt to buy support through dependance. You see as more blacks took the handouts more became dependant on them. Over time this lead to a weakening of the black family and the promotion of a PERMANENT VICTIM status for blacks.This too weakend the strenth of will and self reliance of the black population.
