A cursory review of the word "almah" today will show the word to mean: virgin of marriageable age; but a review of the etymology of the word coupled with the fact that the Bible repeatedly used "betulah" to identify "marriageable virgins" shows "almah" only meant "young virgin girl" (12 yrs and less).

I think there's a way in which the Catholic Church feels that its role in society is to hear confession and then to forgive. When suddenly it is called upon to investigate, and indict, and prosecute, and punish, it can't flip over to that role. It finds it easy to indict and punish homosexual parishioners who aren't guilty of anything. It finds it difficult to prosecute priests. Extremely difficult to prosecute the bishops who aided and abetted. And impossible to prosecute the Pope.
