It is the Hodge Podge Hall of Fame. Way, way too many non-rockers included in there while bands like the Doobie Brothers are ignored. The place is a joke!
I found the rock and roll hall of fame kind of boring. Maybe I'm a nerd, but I much preferred the Freighter and the Submarine museum around the corner. I like rock and roll as much as the next guy, but the museum was a disappointment.
How the freak these guys still be puttin out the jams at there age? Amazing, what can i say it's the DOOBS! Best driving highway music u can get. Saw em in 75.
How can they cardsfan? Because the good stuff played by good rockers/musicians will always be played that way by the same types.
Never saw them in concert but I remember this song from The Captain and Me and have always thought this as one of the finest rock songs I ever heard. The studio version, and this from a Free Bird forever Skynyrd fan.
I certainly don't need The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to tell me that the Doobies are one of the tightest bands ever. I don't need them to tell me their harmonies are the epitome of on-key. I don't need them to tell me their lists of hits (and non-hits) are written with more professionalism than any band around. I don't need them to tell me that have dual drummers with a percussionist is not only one-of-a-kind, but creates an incredible rhythm section. Who is the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame again?
I cannot agree more with PatrioticVeteran, vwtch and anyone else who recognizes this band as one of the best in rock & roll history. It is astounding on how deep the talent runs in each every musician in this band. I'm from Canada and whole heartedly admit in my humble opinion, that we don't have a super group that has this much depth. Their timing, stage presence and professionalism is beyond description. I love these guy's, I have never witnessed a tighter band, I was a road mgr for April Wine
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS! I didn't remember the name of this song, but then clicked on it and then remembered....! Such an awesome song, that I truly haven't heard since it came out (on my 8 track no less!) This posting is like finding a piece of gold to me!! Priceless!
These guys are certainly one of the most talented, prolific and enduring bands in history. They are better today than they were 30 years ago. Their vocal harmonies, song writing and musicianship are second to none. They should have been inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame years ago, but their time will come. No group of guys has brought more joy into the world via music than this bunch. I am thankful for them, very thankful.
Bobby Darin * Bobby Bland * Brenda Lee * Gene Pitney * Miles Davis * Madonna *
The above-listed are 'in', the Doobs are 'out'. Go figure. The 500 "experts" who vote on the annual List of Inductees must be 90-year-old homebound invalids who have to be fed mashed bananas & have their asses wiped.
For that matter, Cleveland, Ohio? Starting to make sense. Maybe we need a real Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in a real city.
The Doobie Brothers influenced a whole generation ( including me) of guitar players back in the 70's. I can not believe they are not considered a "shoe in" to the Rock Hall of fame. Whoever made that decision can "Kiss my Cuban Ass"...
Ever since I first dropped the needle on "The Captain and Me" this song has been my favorite kind of "heavy metal." Saw them play this under the moonlight last Sept. at The Oregon State Fair. Will never freakin' forget it!
The Rock and Joke Hall of Fame. Abba before the Doobie Brothers, lets get serious. That's why I call it the Rock and Joke Hall of Fame. It doesn't get anymore Rock than this performance.
Have seen the Doobies twice here in Australia. They always play as though it's their first and last gig, so incredible. They just love playing. With such great songs it makes it easier to be so passionate. Totally lost my mind at the last gig I went to and received a couple of picks and a drum stick for my outrageous behavior , thanks guys. You just can't watch them without smiling and feeling great.
Yes you are correct biker... I mistakenly put Tom when of course I did mean John... I had been drinking a bit when I posted that comment... Thanks for the correction.
Man that is one kick ass vid, Tom Johnston ROCKS, a real American rock hero, right up there with Tom Fogerty and The Boss. Patrick Simmons looks as if he is the happiest guy on the planet right then. Classic, makes me smile, I have watched this about ten times today and I am probably not done yet. Doobie on, rock and roll lives right here in the good ol' USA. Thanks for the vid, I can see why Patrick is smiling... me too.
Doobies Rock! I have seen them 2 times in Albuquerque. I love them. I met Skylark and Tom Johnston. God Johnston is one hell of a gutiar player and one hell of a song writer. From China Grove.
Incidentally, I hope the band allows these cuts from Live at Wolf Trap to remain on You Tube. I bought the DVD purely on the basis that I saw it here. And I've got to tell you, If you think THIS rocks. Just wait until you get the DVD on your big screen with Surround Sound! UNFUCKING-BELIEVABLE CONCERT from START To FIINISH! Rock On Boys! Don't Ever Stop The Music!!!!! Gonna buy more copies of the DVD for my friends. Check out their version of Takin' It To The Streets, especially the beginning!
The only reason I would ever go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is to piss on their front door until the Doobies are inducted. Jann Weiner or whoever the asshole is that refuses to acknowledge this band has turned what SHOULD be a great place into a fucking joke by continuously refusing to consider the Doobies. Why should one lame fuck wield so much power anyway. Fuck Rolling Stone and Fuck the Hall of Fame. LONG LIVE THE DOOBIES! This song is a perfect example of what rock is ALL ABOUT!
@PatrioticVeteran AGREED. This is the most under-rated of all Doobie classics. This song literally defines an all-out guitar arsenal. It gets no better than this...ever.
@PatrioticVeteran Rolling Stone proved themselves to be a bunch of pretentious, arrogant assholes back in the 70s by slamming many of the great bands of the time. Nuff said.
Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia in the D.C. suburbs. I was at this concert - and also at the one at Constitution Hall in D.C. in the early 70s. Not a supergroup but a megagroup.
Fuck the R&R hall of shame. It's run by rolling stone ragazine. Amazing bands like the Doobies or Alice Cooper or premier prog rockers could be left out yet THE MATERIAL WHORE IS IN???!!!! She the devil! MTV's queen of skin deep corporate demographic studies driven music!!
But damn, this tune do rock, don't she?? I know it was popular, but I never liked the MacDonald sound anywhere near as much as the original!!
Nice tune! FYI, Wolftrap is in northern Virginia, outside Washington, DC. It's the only national park here in the US dedicated to the performing arts.
This song, from the album, "The Captain And Me," released in 1973, began the demise of my hearing capabilities, at the age 18, and I haven't regretted it for a minute.
Wow, I saw the original group in 1974 in concert, before pyrotechnics were common. At about 3:00, where there is a slight pause, all the lights came down. When the band began pounding and the red lights and smoke came up, I was in heaven. See the cover of the
'What Were Once Vices' LP for the backside view of the aftermath.
One of the greatest songs from one of the greatest groups in rock n roll history.
I refuse to visit the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland unless and until The Doobie Brothers are recognized for all that they have done for rock n roll.
IMHO, this is the best song the DB's ever did. Totally rocks.

I believe it's John McFee who joined the band in the early 80's and was really known for his versatility (he played violin as well as guitar).
The lead he played on this was very close to the one played on the original studio recording. Very respectable rendition, huh?
