@MrJezza31 It's one model i'd like to see Hornby bring up to date. But this shunter or as the 0-4-0 steam loco (share the same chassis), are very popular starter models. Will do a video when i get a spare moment. Cheers.
Actually looks surprisingly simple. I had always been put off by DCC because my entire collection isn't fitted for it.
I just had my grandfather on the phone and he wonders if this same thing would work for really old locos? He has a 1968 bought Triang engine which he wants fitted with DCC, but nobody has ever been able to give him an answer wether or not this would be a good idea as he only started collecting again recently and has all DCC fitted other than a small collection from his youth.
Depending on which loco i believe. The older loco's will need a higher rated decoder fitted (depending on what the motor is fitted). I would say yes to having it fitted. If you contact dcc supplies they should be able to sort out which decoder you'll need,Kind regards.
@gtacrusher123 Not so much from Hornby, more a case of which decoder is rated high enough for the older type motor's. Contact DCC Supplies & they will be able to help as which, decoder will best suit your loco. Cheers.
@gtacrusher123 Depends on what loco. If rewiring just replace the exsisting wire's as already on the loco. It maybe you've got a broken joint etc. Only ever had to add extra pick ups to one loco, rest run okay due to using extra power feeds to the track & electrofrog points, & keeping wheels track etc clean.
@kylewilliams1000 If the loco is DCC ready, then remove the body & DCC blanking plug, & plug in the decoder. Other wise it should be the same or similar as shown here.
@kylewilliams1000 The Railroad Hornby class 08 is more or less similar, to converting the class 06 as seen in this video. So sticking to the basic rules in the video, it should be easy to convert.
@kylewilliams1000 Sorry, i don't have the railroad class 08. I have the more newer super detailed model the class 09 by Hornby, which is DCC ready. So again if you follow the basics in the video, it should be easy to convert. As i won't be getting the railroad version, i won't be able to do the video, sorry.
@maxresnikoff We've followed the insturctions from Hornby, but looking at it can't see that it make much difference. Personally i'd follow what Hornby show (as done in this video), to be on the safe side. Cheers.
@KnapfordMaster98 No, thankfully you don't have to open the motor up. Just solder the wires on to the contacts of the motor as shown. The motor is one of those maintance free types, when worn simply remove & replace with a new one. Cheers.
Hi - Thank you so much for your videos. I have been given the confidence to go ahead and have a go at modifying our trains. You make it straight-forward. Thank you.
Thank you for this video I have now modified all my none DCC locos and they run brilliantly on my DCC track. I have subscribed to your channel for more useful tips. Thanks again. David
@itgamer100 Wouldn't really recommend that you do that, as damage may result to the motor. But if you set the loco address to zero, you can run a dc analogue on dcc control. Put don't leave it on the track stationary for long as damage to the motor could happen.
I would, but i don't have that loco as i model the British trains. So unfortunately i won't be able to do that video for you.Sorry. May be worth checking out some of the many DCC guide books, or contacting proto to see if they can advise you. Cheers.
I think what i'd do, would be to remove the capacitor. See how it runs then. May also be worth trying altering some of the CV's to improve running. Cheers.
lovely demo, how about a triang xo4 motor? would you have to put a insulating sleeve on both sides of the brush spring and solder the wires directly to the brass brush holders?
Thank you. I think there is three old loco's in my fleet with that motor. I'll have to look into that with the Xo4 motor, but possibly yes. Will do a video on that later this year, as i'll need to take a look at the loco 1st. Cheers.
Very nice. Thanks for putting this up and sharing this with us. It has taken me 4 attempts just to watch this part whole as the test run section kept freezing and saying 'an error occurred please try again later'.
BRILLIANT!!!!! ive wanted to make my class 06 dcc for ages and this is the only video ive come across thats easy to follow and works for me!
