How was he impatient he wait for hours and two the one rule of survival on a mountain is u are priority number 1 u worry about someone else u will die because u are thinking about others rather than fucking climbing.
A simple use of smaller cordage can bypass a knot on a weighted rope. However Joe and Simon may not of had this knowledge as it is generally taught in search and rescue
hindsight is a luxury they didnt have....but surely if a rope goes tight like it did, it could ony mean he had fallen over a cliff or ridge of somekind...i cant think what else could be responsible??
Even if he'd known...what else could he have done? As a serious question, what could he do? Joe's weight is fully dragging down on Simon, he was waiting for it to go slack to he could climb down himself; when the rope is still tight and actually pulling you further down, what can you do? He cannot climb down himself because of the weight, he cannot go back up, he waited and let out all the rope. The only thing he COULD do in the end was cut it, that was the only choice to survive
@JackRabbitSlim aye fair point...as you say nothing he could do really, if hed realised Joe had fallen i guess he could have cut the rope sooner, not that that would have helped really
well he should have maybe unclipped but remember firstly how u would feel about a true friend v how it feels at altitude so in hindsight he did the right thing but he never expected it turnout like it did.
@luigiK1 i don't think he could do that with the tension on the rope. Joe says himself at the end of this clip that he expected simon to fall off and there was nothing he could do.
@kozmon0t But did he have a kinife cause he never mentions a knife? Could he reach it? maybe it was in his pack. But it is a good point because it would seem to have been the right thing to do but then again could anybody say for sure that they would cut the rope themselves. I'm not sure I would if i'm honest
@luigiK1 try pulling yourself up a thin climbing rope enough so you have slack enough to unclip a carabiner or untie a knot. With near frostbitten fingers.
We had to watch this film in our 7th grade P.E class... it was sooo interesting!

The long scene here, from 5:06 onwards, is one of the most moving and powerful scenes I've ever seen in a film. Absolutely incredible.

Joe Simpson should of unclipped himself from the rope and dropped instead of waiting to pull simon to his death, anyone agree?
