  • Good stuff man

  • Don't listen to these jerks who are critical... You will notice they do not have the skills or the balls to post anything... they just play their mouths(@christophwalters etc.) nice work. Keep it up, my friend!

  • wow, do you know what intonation is? or groove?

    does not sound like it.

  • Good stuff, but Jaco played this on a 4 string.

  • yes he certainly did!

count how many times I touch the B and C string... if you want to be picky about it, I had to mute the B and C strings while on a 4 string you wouldnt have to and not have to stretch as much.

This is played the same way / positions I would play it on a 4 string...

my other video's I play 4 strings here and there...

  • @iheller

Wow. You must be a historian to point out this up-to-now unknown information.

  • Very well done; 5/5 stars easy.

Smiths have a distinctive voice, don't they. I think this is the first fretless I've heard, and I like it.

  • Sounded pretty sweet! The beginning part could be a little smoother, but that's just how Jaco plays it, you can do it your own way of course :)

  • Yo with those chords, you gotta do the fadeaway!

  • very very nice sound and feel

  • Nice tone and playing man! :)

What amp are you playing your Ken Smith through?

  • No amp or pre-amp... plugged in directly to the little 1/8" sound input on my lap top...

  • lol that's hillarious

  • nice

  • sound good man...nice bass is that the black tiger

  • Hi there,

No its a 1997 BSR Elite 6 G.. Lacewood Top & Back with maple core...

  • nice job man :) how much did the bass cost ;/

  • nice intonation man,, great job..

  • One of my fav Pastorius tracks played v well. Being a bassist myself, I was hoping to obtain the tab for it and "attempt" it! Nice post!!

  • do it off the album

  • yeah noob, listen to it

  • smooth

  • what bass is it? brand and model please

  • Ken Smith BSR6EG. Got it in 1997 new. Lacewood Top and Back / Rock Maple Core.

  • Sound great! One quick correction, the notes that are sliding up is a semi-tone on the CD, making the big stretch from the g on the d string and the g# on the d string. Great playing, love this song!

  • Oh man, I was hoping to see this being played on the Jaco relic bass.

  • thats not a bass its a guitar too strings lol

  • Great sound! Incredible tone! Jaco would be proud. What kind of bass is that?

  • Nevermind. I fail at reading previous comments.

  • wow awesome job dude, very smooth tone. Exactly what it need for a fretless :) keep playing some nice music

  • nice playin and great sound i love ken smiths i never heard a fretless ken before damnzz it sounds awesome

  • Are you using a pedal effect when you play this theme??

If It´s so, what kind of pedal are you using?

    Thank´s from Spain!!

  • Hi there,

No I am just plugged directly into my lap top sound in.

  • Nice bass!

  • bad ass!

  • nvm jaco is doing a minor second this guy is just playing it wrong =]

  • Change title to opus pocus not exactly how jaco played it played by me...

he changes it every time he plays it anyway........

  • steve smith bass?

  • almost... KEN smith.

THis is a Ken Smith BSR Elite 6 G. 1996 model, had it custom ordered with the Lacewood Top & Back, and Rock Maple Core

  • cheers.. im a bit new to the ken smiths but ive heard they are are very good basses and from what im hearing they are very smoooooth.. as if they play u not u play them.. btw very well exectued. wat amp do u use?

  • yeah they are great...

not sure they play them selves though...

I use a SWR Super Redhead. But for these vid's I am plugged in directly to the lap top.

  • it's a triton.. he's just sliding it

  • Wonderful :D you are talented, keep up the good work, i like watchin your vid's, peace

  • srs tone. nice wood too!

  • nice bass, the tone is awesome too

  • how is that plugged in? could you please tell me what you use?

  • I am plugged in directly to the mini jack on my PC lap top... direct, no effects or anything...

  • how is that plugged in? could you please tell me what you use?

  • no its not

  • nice job, but that's god awful tone. extremely thin. but nice job

  • its plugged in directly into the 1/8th mini jack in my lap top... no pre, no compressor, no eq etc...

    what are you listing on?

  • hey

    thats completely wrong

    outsidein

  • well done my friend. is that a fodera bass? i can't really make out the emblem on the head. but wow, i didn't know that the slide was a tritone. this whole time i thought it was a stretched out minor 2nd. whatev, sounds awesome pal

  • it's not a tritone. I'm pretty sure it is the minor second, because he's mimicking the steel pans part, and that's playing a trill between semitones

  • yea its a cluster not a tritone

  • love it man

id what kind of fretless do you have? it would be amazing to learn to groove like jaco

  • forget what the haters are saying, you're damn good kid. Not everyone can do Jaco stuff, and at the end, who cares. You've got the chops to play pretty much any musical style you want. Now it's up to you to dedicate yourself to a particular style, band, repertoire, etc, and enjoy your music career. Technique is only part, and you certainly have it!

  • your chords don't sound right somehow...maybe its just the quality of the recording.

    otherwise, good job.

  • Hey, I love your sound. I have a fretless aswell and I'm wondering how you've got such a nice sound, and I don't, haha.

  • that's a nice ken smith man

  • It's almost correct, though the two tones after the G sharp and B are an E and F at the same time.

  • Ah so you play Jaco :P

Nice job and great feel! Did you learn this by ear? I tried using tabs a while ago, but some parts were quit off...I find it hard to find good Jaco tabs online.

  • All by ear..

I dont know how to read tab.. :(

    I can read music though!

  • Wow! I sadly have terrible pitch :( lol

I can read tabs and sheet music...but the tabs online don't have the right notes for the slide/vibrato part...

You have such a great tone...if you don't mind me asking, what are your amp settings like? Do you use any pedals or anything?

    Thanks

  • very nice i think this is the only version on youtube of someone just playing bass for this song

  • good but needs work on the diminished chords there in the main line. use more variation

  • pretty good man! Just gotta work on the tone a bit, maybe it's just the recording. His sound was so natural it almost didn't sound like electric ya know?

  • Very cool. One of my fav Jaco tunes.

  • amazing!

sounded just like the real thing!

    R.I.P. Jaco

  • Aww, man. He skipped the last section! that's my favorite bass line of all time. But great playing.

  • Awesome playing, by the way who is the manufacture maker of the bass that you're playing?

  • Ken Smith bass

  • nicely done, not rushed like always do, blasting out the intro rundowns!

  • really nice playing man, good pich and good time

    Dave
