@Noodles37UK I'm pretty sure you're right, unless I'm imagining it that happens in this film. I caught it at 4 o'clock on a sunday afternoon or something, it was a bit surreal. I expected some sort of gentle war of the sexes, but got killer ant rampage. Result!
@martang66 I've got a fascination for ants, but as it's winter and I can't keep my own antfarm yet, I have to do with studying the Romans. Same thing really Lol.
I spent 6 months in the Orinoco valley of the Amazon (where this movie was based) and had one run in with army ants.
Fortunately we slept in hamocs and they were on a straight drive through the village with little deviation. Scary shit. They killed and ate two otters who were unfortunately on ropes (snake guard dogs) but we got out of the way in time (it was 3 a.m. when they hit). It was panic time and people get stupid when panicked. A couple of natives got bit bad but not serious.
this was an amazing movie back in the day..when i was in 8th grade we read the book and watched the movie and there was this 1 kid who thought linegan was a giant ant lmao
liningen against the ants was the short story this was based on, the film improved the story with more characters and plot, the film is a all time favorite of many, there is talk about it being remade I hope not, remakes are all ways terrible.

Read this novella by Austrian author and publisher Carl Stephenson called Leiningen's Fight With the Ants (1937). It is one heck of an exciting read.

This movie is responsible of some of my darkest nightmares as a kid, when I saw it first time on TV.
THE NAKED JUNGLE was directed by Byron Haskin, who also directed WAR OF THE WORLD in the 50's. George Pal produced both movies.
