@pricelessppp The current generation with the Core i5 processor is fast enough for most tasks.
If you really want more graphic intense apps to work on the air you might be better off with getting a used macbook air of the last generation with the core 2 duo processor because those have way better graphics.
I want to play some low key games would this do will mainly be using for work and Microsoft flight simulator. Looking at my currentpc specs it the graphics card letting me down nothing else process or speed is faster and less ram than a MacBook.
@SuperFlyingfreak Yes if you look at the current generation it really is the graphics that are not really any good for gaming.
The other specs are definitely good enough but also the 13 inch MacBook pro has the same integrated graphics so you might be better off with a Dell XPS 15z or an HP Envy laptop.
how would this stack up against a new lenovo core i5 laptop with 4 gigs of ram? i thinking of ditching it and getting an air like this one. Thanx in advance
Do you think a 11 inch Macbook air could do apps like iPhoto, iWeb, iMovie and other intensive apps? I have a 13 inch Mid-2010 Macbook Pro, but I'm looking for better battery life and easier to carry around, but I don't know if it would be good enough to run my apps because my Pro barely gets by on 4GB ram and 2.4GHz processor.
@TechCentury Okay, thanks. I will save up for $800 then :) Hopefully I can get one soon. I don't want one with Lion on it. I want a Snow Leopard MacBook Air.
@TechCentury I prefer Snow Leopard because for some reason I like the UI of it better. There's too much grey in Lion for me. I mean, it's an awesome OS but I rather have SL for now and I can always upgrade if I ever wanted to.
@TechCentury yeah i was looking for a suitable notebook for school which would be easy to take notes from class and keep organized. It was between the alienware M11x and this, but your reviewwed swayed my decision. Thanks for the help!
The Mac Book Air does have a backlit keyboard now and to prove I took this off of Apple's Website... "When you type on the MacBook Air, it’s just as comfortable as typing on a desktop keyboard. And now the keyboard is backlit, so you can type comfortably even in low-light conditions. A built-in sensor detects changes in the ambient lighting and adjusts the keyboard and display brightness automatically, giving you the perfect illumination in any environment." So im just doing this to correct you.
@ejkej17 If you do not really need the performance the 2010 version should definitely be fine. I used the 13 inch for a very long time and it was a great machine!
@TheAntiChrist1337x4 Of course the 2011 MacBook Airs have a way better processor but if you only do basic stuff like taking notes and browsing the web it should still be fine.
The hp envy 14 was just updated with sandy bridge processors so it is up to the latest standards and at 999$ it is cheaper than a MacBook Pro.
If you do not need/ want the Mac OS then you will probably be better off with the hp.
If you want a Mac, the entry level 13 inch MacBook Pro is definitely a great machine but if you do not need the optical drive the 13 inch MacBook Air might be the better decision.
@TechCentury thx...i checked out both and im gnna go with the macbook pro...its just so much more nicer despite the glossy screen...and also my school offered a 3 year warranty with the macbook pro and i cant live without a dvd drive
well i dont know how to do video editing but am interested. i do browse the web alot. i want to learn more about computers and i fell in love with apple with the first iphone. So i plan on learning alot with mac so what do you think? i really like the macbook pro 13"i5
@abrasive8 No problem. I was saying that everything is full size except for the function keys in the top row (where you change the display brightness, pause a track and so on) that might be a issue for some.
@dmg88 Hey, well I do not think that the display is bad at any means. I had the 13 inch MacBook Air and 13 inch MacBook Pro side by side and there is not much of a difference in my opinion.
The Air's display actually looks better to me because it has the higher resolution.
The viewing angles are definitely limited but that is because the MacBooks do not have IPS displays such as the iMac or iPad.
@haskl4 Well I can't promise that 100% but the MacBook Air has pretty good graphics and I saw people playing crysis on it so I am sure it will run, I just do not know at what settings.
Maybe you will be able to find a video with the Sims 3 on the MacBook Air here on youtube.

Awesome video. I never had a Mac, but I really want to buy a Air now. I think the air is perfect for me, but Im not very crazy about wasting all my year savings at once. Is it worth it?
Well the MacBook Air definitely is a really nice machine and since it is on the market for quite some time now you might be able to get one cheaper for example refurbished from Apple for around 850 bucks.
The Mac operating system definitely is more stable than Windows (at least for me) it does crash sometimes though.
I would not take all my savings just to get a MacBook Air though.
Excellent review! Do you have any idea how long it takes for it to charge from 0% to 100%?
I currently have the 2008 Macbook silver Unibody, and get about 1.5 hours of battery life with videos, etc, but it seems like it takes it around 2 hours to charge - ridiculous!
Well I charged it today from 20 to 100 and it took around 2 hours i believe so from 0 to 100 should not take too much longer than that but then you also get up to 6 hours battery life out of it.
@AppleTechHelper Well the graphics card can definitely handle an external display and I am pretty sure that you will have a lot of fun with such an set up and an external mouse and keyboard.
Hey, thank you so much for the review. I'm a college student with not that much money. I currently have a 4 year old 14.1 inch PC laptop, and 3 great PC desktops. I have an iPad that I use at school all the time but I find it so limiting in terms what I can do, and I absolutely hate bringing my laptop to school since its so clunky. Do you think that the macbook air is good for me? Are there any other PCs that are less expensive that you would suggest to me? I'm not so into the netbooks. Thanks!
@0zero0zero Hey, you are very welcome, thanks for watching it!
Well in the meantime there are a couple of contenders to the MacBook Air. Sony has released the Y- Series and HP the dm1z series.
Those laptops feature an 11 inch screen as well as a dual core processor. Of course there is no SSD build in but they are about half the price of the Air, starting at 449$.
I'm Getting One of These ASAP!!!! Games : OnLive, Online Websites (Sometimes) Video Editing : USB from iPod Touch & iMovie 11'... My $500 Dell is a Bit Slower than this but with more RAM (GPU Helps on Mac) It's 5.4 Pounds 4' Thick | Need I Say More?
@Now2011 Yes it definitely is true that a lot of those services (like OnLive) make high specs on your local machine obsolete. I think that is also why you do not need that much storage anymore.
You can stream your content without having to download anything.
Sebastian, a very thorough and unbiased review. Have you heard some rumours that the MacBook Air may get a multi-core processor upgrade before the autumn?
Thank you for creating such an informative review! I have been a MacBook user for 4 years now and have recently been hoping to purchase a more mobile machine as I do most of my work on the go, travel every weekend, and honestly do not use my computer's processing power to the extreme by any means.
I have been looking into the iPad 2, but I realize that I use Pages way too often for extending periods of time to simply "replace" my current macbook with it.
Love it!

backdoorman1971 1 month ago
@backdoorman1971 Well the one that I reviewed in this video only has a core 2 duo processor which does not come close to the lenovo i5 laptop.
Meanwhile Apple released an updated version of the Air though which also features Core i5/ i7 processors, a backlit keyboard and 4gb of Ram.
Those new ones should come close to your lenovo and you gain a lot of portability.

@braydenmartindale Well I think the current generation MacBook Airs with the Core i processors are definitely powerful enough for those requirements.
In my opinion you should definitely get 4gb of Ram though.
Regarding the battery life I am not sure, Apple claims 5 hours for the 11 inch, with intense tasks this will probably change quite a bit.

@christyluv012005 Well for basic tasks and a little bit of video editing even the MacBook Air is strong enough since they now have better processors.
I would either get the 13 inch MacBook Pro with the i5 processor or the MacBook Air 13 inch with the i5.

Enjoyed your outtakes! You are very charming.

@evan1276 Thank you very much!
Well I have heard that there might be an upgrade towards Core i processors in the MacBook Air.
I do not think that there will be quad-core processors in the Air though.

Thank you for your honest review!

@rbtransformed You are welcome. I am glad you enjoyed it.
The MacBook Air definitely is the better choice than an iPad when it comes to productivity.
